Dimensions spatiales des pratiques d’asile (trans)nationales dans les littératures allemande, française et espagnole des XXe et XXIe siècles
Le colloque explore l’articulation entre asile et espace à travers le prisme des études culturelles et littéraires. À la lumière du Spatial Turn, de la Critical Geography, de la Feminist Geography et de la Postcolonial Spatial Theory, l’espace peut être compris comme le produit d’une pratique socialement construite et dynamique. Comment les littératures allemande, française et espagnole des XXe et XXIe siècles localisent-elles et matérialisent-elles les pratiques d’asile ? Quelles institutions sont mises en exergue et quelles esthétiques suscitent-elles ?

The overarching theme for the 10th ITRA World Conference is The Zeitgeist in Toys & Games is designed to decipher and understand the many ways toys and games have shaped and reflected who we are, and have changed throughout history. Looking at the past, present, and future of playthings, the question is not so much what the zeitgeist in toys and games should be – but rather how and what they contribute to the multiple and potentially conflicting constellations of ideas, values and norms that come to characterize particular epochs.

Depuis une quinzaine d’années, les groupes forgés par les conflits, qualifiés généralement de « factions », ont fait l’objet de recherches comparées qui ont mis en évidence leur omniprésence. Dans le prolongement de ces travaux, nous souhaitons nous intéresser à la manière dont les factions communiquent pour rendre publics leur existence et les conflits qui les nourrissent. Les discours élaborés par et sur les factions méritent donc d’être analysés avec prudence, en examinant leur structure, le cadre de leur énonciation et les mécanismes de leur diffusion, afin d’évaluer leur sincérité et d’en décrypter les sous-entendus. C’est à ce travail qu’invitent les présentes journées d’étude, dans une perspective comparée large, susceptible d’éclairer ces phénomènes sur le temps long.

Les communications attendues seront centrées sur la jeunesse, possiblement en relation avec d’autres âges (l’enfance et l’âge mûr). On peut prendre en compte toutes les sources, dans toutes les langues vernaculaires de l’empire romain, et de toute nature, épigraphiques, numismatiques, papyrologiques, littéraires, juridiques et bien sûr iconographiques.

Monasteries and religious communities in the Alps from the Middle Ages to the present day
History, landscape, architecture and enhancement of cultural heritage
Volume 31/2026 of Histoire des Alpes – Storia delle Alpi – Geschichte der Alpen wishes to dedicate its Dossier to the theme of monasteries and religious communities in the Alpine region. While the history of regular communities was largely investigated from the second half of the 19th century until the first years of the 20th century, in particular thanks to the impetus of members of the clergy who devoted themselves to collecting, transcribing and translating archives, as well as publishing monographs, there has been a revival of interest in this subject over the last few decades in the Alps and Pre-Alps, driven in particular by archaeologists, by the diversification of issues concerning the religious world and, locally, by the desire of the public authorities to broaden the range of the tourism offer by promoting local heritage.

The word crisis, derived from the Greek word krisis, means judgment, decision. Conceptually speaking, “a crisis is an illness” (a conceptual metaphor justified diachronically by its etymological meaning of “the decisive phase of an illness”), or “it is a war”, if we focus on the meaning of “an outbreak with violent manifestations”. It is, therefore, a moment of major change. Our societies are plagued by successive and often overlapping crises, enabling them - if not forcing them - to evolve and transform themselves. The conference will focus on two parallel and complementary themes: “The economic crisis / The economy of the crisis” and “Discourse in a time of crisis”.

Mobility and Interactions in the Meuse-Rhine Region (9th-15th cent.)
Throughout the Middle Ages, from the kingdom of Lothar II to the creation of the first modern state boundaries, the region of the Rhine and Meuse lay at the crossroads between two big linguistic and cultural areas. Political tensions, artistic currents and waves of spiritual renewal continually crossed this vast territory, stretching from Utrecht to Basel and from Cambrai to Cologne and Strasbourg. After a first conference organized in April 2022 at the University of Trier, this second multidisciplinary encounter aims to bring together PhD students and post-doctoral researchers working on mobility and interactions in this region.

The Allied Withdrawal from Berlin
Conditions – Process – Consequences
En 2024 on commémorera le trentième anniversaire du départ des « Alliés » de Berlin. 49 ans durant leur présence aura marqué la ville dans son histoire, sa structure urbaine et tous les secteurs d’activité. La ville a été le lieu d’échanges multidirectionnels entre les diverses « communautés » alliées et berlinoises. La chute du Mur marque le début de la sortie de la Guerre froide en Europe. Après un bilan sur la présence des quatre occupants / alliés à Berlin, ce colloque analysera les conditions et la mise en œuvre du départ des militaires alliés ainsi que ses répercussions sur la ville de Berlin dans des perspectives multiples : qu’il s’agisse de l’arrivée de la Bundeswehr d’un point de vue militaire, ou bien de l’impact sur le paysage urbain, sur les évolutions démographiques, sociales, culturelles, ou économiques. Enfin, on s’interrogera sur les traces et la mémoire de la présence militaire alliée à Berlin depuis 1994.

The Aggressor: Self-perception and External Perception of an Actor Between Nations - PhD positions
The Department of History at Heidelberg University and the Faculty of History at the Ruhr University Bochum invite applications for five doctoral positions (part-time: 65%) to be filled from the winter 2023/24 within in the framework of the international research project “The Aggressor: Self-perception and External Perception of an Actor Between Nations”. The interdisciplinary project investigates the identity-forming construction of national enemy images across Europe, which are shaped by aggressors from neighboring countries. It systematizes and compares the perception and interpretation of particular enemy actors based on historical case studies, focusing on their discursive construction and changing significance in the politics of memory.

La face cachée des êtres, des faits et des objets dans le contexte franco-allemand
Le premier colloque « Les oublié(e)s et les invisibles dans le contexte franco-allemand des XIXe et XXe siècles », qui s’est tenu en juin 2022 à Angers, avait comme objectif de rappeler le souvenir de personnes, de faits et d’œuvres ignorés, tombés dans l’oubli, volontairement (ou non) escamotés. La publication est en cours. Ce deuxième colloque s’inscrit dans une démarche quelque peu différente. Il s’agit cette fois-ci de détecter, débusquer, dévoiler des facettes et des aspects ignorés de personnages, de faits ou d’œuvres déjà connus, toujours dans un contexte franco-allemand, c’est-à-dire dans le cadre des relations de la France avec les mondes germaniques, à toutes les époques. Dans ce cadre il pourrait donc même être question de développer une nouvelle approche d’une thématique qui paraît déjà avoir été bien explorée.

L’appel à projet « Destin(s) de la Grande Région » vise à mettre en lumière, par le biais de travaux scientifiques inédits, des parcours de vie individuels ou collectifs illustrant les rapports, à travers les époques, entre les territoires composant aujourd’hui la Grande Région, et plus largement la France, l’Allemagne, la Suisse, le Luxembourg, la Belgique et les Pays-Bas. À travers la somme des contributions, il s’agit de proposer un regard nouveau sur l’histoire de la Grande Région, mettant en exergue la diversité et l’évolution des rapports entre ses territoires et populations, ainsi que leurs conséquences sur le continent européen.

The multilingual city, c. 1250 – c. 1800
Historical approaches
Cities are multilingual, but histories of the premodern city too rarely think in detail about the workings of language in urban communities and environments. At the same time, the social history of language has rarely taken into account the spatial dimension of multilingualism in the past. As a centre of political, cultural, and intellectual life, as well as a site of cultural exchange, the city has long been a place of linguistic encounter and of language change, as historical sociolinguists have shown. This workshop will bring historians together to consider multilingualism as a social fact, and to explore the relationship between multilingualism and the development of the premodern city.

Mass and individual in capital modernity
The notion of the “mass” is back on the agenda. Recent large-scale popular protests, the extraordinary importance acquired by social networks, the current appeal of conspiracy theories, as well as so-called “populist” phenomena, have triggered a renewed discussion around this concept. Since its emergence at the beginning of capitalist modernity, the idea of the 'mass' has implied a certain reactionary conception of collective action, according to which the individual's judgment capacity is eclipsed by irrational behavior. The First World War and the rise of fascism apparently brought to reality this representation: the individual, weakened by social atomization, succumbed to a tyrannized mass.

Trans-Europe-Express. The circulation of popular music in Western Europe during the 1960s
Jusqu’à présent, l’histoire des musiques populaires en Europe occidentale (chanson, Schlager, pop, rock, jazz...) a été traitée de manière très inégale en fonction des pays, des disciplines et des angles de recherches. Alors qu’en Grande-Bretagne, l’histoire des musiques populaires fait partie intégrante de la recherche historique et qu’elle obtient une place de plus en plus solide en Allemagne, elle en est encore à ses balbutiements en France, Italie, Espagne, et dans d’autres pays européens. Ce colloque a pour but de mettre en avant l’aspect transnational de l’histoire des musiques populaires en Europe. Sans exclure les influences américaines, centrales dans l’évolution des musiques populaires, il s’agira ici de mettre l’accent sur les échanges intra-européens. L’objectif est de mettre au jour la variété des influences musicales en Europe au cours des « longues » années 1960.

How is it possible to use the notion of mass without making it collapse into a complete condemnation of collective action or into an acritical celebration of the crowd? From there on, the relationship between mass and individual can be addressed in many fashions: Are there any specific ways for the mass to organize itself as a political subject? What are means whereby artworks represent and transform the linkage between mass and individual? What are the mutations undergone by the mass qua object of the social sciences? How does capitalist modernity affect the moral and psychic autonomy of individuals?

From ritual to myth: Carnival in European culture
D’où vient la profonde exigence sociale du carnaval et quels sont les thèmes et les motifs que cette tradition a fait émerger dans notre héritage culturel et artistique ? Du drame bouffon à la farce et à la grande tradition de la commedia dell’arte italienne, des observations de Goethe sur le carnaval de Rome aux compositions de Schumann (Carnaval, op. 9) et de Saint-Saëns (Le Carnaval des Animaux), jusqu’à la peinture de Brueghel l’Ancien, Monet, Pissarro et Elrond, le carnaval a fasciné de nombreux auteurs. Le but de ce colloque est de recueillir et de combiner des idées innovatrices pour l’analyse ou la reformulation de ce mythe, en créant un pont entre les perspectives de lecture les plus diverses dans le domaine des humanités.

"The grass is always greener" - gardens and politics
Franco-German histories, experiences and perspectives
Le CEREG (EA 4223) de l’Université de Nanterre, l’équipe de recherche « Mondes allemands » (EA 1577) de l’Université Paris VIII Vincennes Saint-Denis, l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Versailles et la fondation Fürst-Pückler-Park Bad Muskau organisent, du 14 au 16 mai 2020 un colloque franco-allemand sur le thème « “Sortir de l’enclos” : jardins et politique(s). Histoires, expériences et perspectives franco-allemandes ». Il s'agira de s’interroger sur les liens qu’ont entretenus, depuis le XVIIe siècle, les jardins avec la politique en France et en Allemagne, mais aussi d’examiner de récentes initiatives où le jardin, compris comme processus vivant, se transforme en lieu d’expression de la démocratie et de la citoyenneté. L’histoire des deux pays, parfois adverse et souvent intimement mêlée, incite en effet à tendre des miroirs pour révéler des mouvements et aspirations profondes des deux sociétés, étudier les contrastes et transferts mutuels, et croiser les études de terrain dans ce domaine encore peu exploré qu’est l'art comparé des jardins.

Considéré en son temps comme « l’agitateur le plus important du mouvement révolutionnaire radical » en Allemagne, le philosophe et activiste anarchiste Gustav Landauer (1870-1919) bénéficie aujourd’hui d’un vif regain d’intérêt. Un siècle après son assassinat, ce colloque international – le premier organisé en France à son propos – entend rendre compte de ce renouveau.

Scholarship, prize and job offer - History
The Max Planck Research Group III investigates the emergence and development of the system of post-Tridentine global governance of the Catholic Church in depth from an interdisciplinary perspective over an extended period of time. It will do so by analysing the activity of the Congregations of the Council, the dicastery responsible for appropriately implementing the Council decisions in the entire Catholic world. We are now looking to recruit as soon as possible (but no later than 1 April 2019) two doctoral students who will develop a doctoral thesis preferably focused on the history of the Congregation of the Council in the early modern period (XVI-XVIII century).
