L’objectif est de faire un état des recherches sur les évolutions des représentations et des imaginaires d’identité et d’altérité sur/dans les Amériques, ainsi qu’aux enjeux de pouvoir qu’ils portent, à travers les pratiques et productions artistiques et culturelles et de poser les bases pour la création d’un réseau international de recherche dans la matière. La réflexion sur les contenus sera indissociable d’une réflexion sur les formes et les conventions narratives et esthétiques en tant qu’« instruments cognitifs » qui véhiculent une adhésion ou une critique au paradigme colonial de la connaissance et du pouvoir occidental.

The call for papers is now open for the I Cine Bárbaras – International Conference on Cinema and Audiovisual Arts, which will take place on October 23 and 24, 2025, at the Lusófona University – Porto University Centre. This conference is a space for critical reflection and debate dedicated to gender studies and feminist film theories. The conference will address topics such as representativity, representation, feminisms in cinema, intersectionality, and the role of women and other marginalized identities in film creation and exhibition.

Amplified liturgies. The new musical ecosystems of religion

This special issue will employ empirical fieldwork and social science tools to analyze the use of sound amplification and its supports in devotional settings. This includes loudspeakers, screens, video-projectors, mixing desks, digital audio stations, the architecture of places of worship. The aim is to identify its varying modalities. How do music and its amplification affect liturgies, participants, and forms of experience, socialization and authority?

The public use of subordinate writings in the early modern and modern periods
We invite contributions dedicated to the dynamics of the re-signification of subaltern writings in public space in the early modern and modern period. Ordinary writings produced by subaltern actors (popular classes, men and women, childhood) in the transition from the private to the public sphere should therefore be investigated with particular attention to the spaces used, the practices adopted, the strategies of visibility (or obscuration) chosen, the appropriations by civil society, the policies of preservation of popular memory and the pedagogical- didactic use of writings.

Revue « Caderno de Letras », #43 (2022)
Since its origins, Cinema has made evident the existence of an open dialogue with other forms of art, either by having incorporated them into its own language – given its hybrid particularity, being simultaneously narrative, performative, visual and voiced –, or by having used existing productions as inspiration and having created, from them, new forms of art. Literature has proven to be a fertile ground for inspiration. Not by chance, great works that mark the beginning of the cinematographic trajectory were adaptations of novelistic or theatrical literary works. We propose for the issue 43 of Journal Caderno de Letras a dossier on all the potentialities of such dialogue involving Fantastic literary and audiovisual productions, whether based on adaptations (in both directions) or on the direct or indirect presence of Literature in audiovisual media or of audiovisual productions in literary texts.

Freedom of Expression in the Digital Age. Between Infox and Artificial Intelligence
Les nouvelles technologies ne doivent, ni être acceptées avec une naïveté grégaire, ni être rejetées dans une opposition idéologique systématique. Elles sont là, nous les utilisons tous. L’objectif de ce congrès est avec la communauté scientifique internationale d’interroger les pratiques actuelles et leurs conséquences sur la liberté d’expression qui sont au cœur du fonctionnement des démocraties. Ce congrès s’inscrit dans la continuité des travaux que l’Unesco mène depuis plusieurs années sur cette thématique notamment la publication annuelle d’un observatoire sur les Tendances mondiales en matière de liberté d’expression et de développement des médias. Les travaux seront regroupés autour de quatre thématiques : les définitions, les lieux, les personnes et les thèmes transversaux.

Insights on the Americas
For its 11th issue, RITA proposes to interrogate the links between power and media in the Americas. Several areas of debate can be suggested, although they should not be considered as exclusive. Articles making a critical analysis of official media as well as opposition media, in varied historical and geographical contexts, will of course be welcome. Other articles may deal with the treatment of popular movements by the media. Critical reflections on the relationship between media and economic power are also encouraged. The Thema section can also include analysis of the current diversification of information media by focusing, for instance, on the emergence of “alternative” media on the Internet, or on the power of fake news over the construction of collective representations.

Contemporary poetics and politics of thee body
From a comparing and transversal perspective, gathering different theoretical and artistic subjects, this congress aims at opening an interdisciplinary dialog, as well as putting into play the different questions that contemporaneity asks about the body. Knowing their territorial cultural differences, each historical period produces a different concept of body and person, which is intimately connected to what goes around on the artistic, theoretical, technological, social, politic and economic fields that sustain it. From an interdisciplinary point of view, this meeting intends to propose and get on the tracks of an investigation that can favour understanding the construction of corporality in our contemporary context.

L'exemple des langues romanes
Le réseau de recherche CIRCULA organisera du 29 au 31 octobre 2015 le colloque international ILPE 2 – Les idéologies linguistiques dans la presse écrite : l’exemple des langues romanes. Ce colloque s’inscrit dans la continuité de la première rencontre scientifique ILPE qui a eu lieu à Augsburg (Allemagne) en octobre 2013. Comme la précédente édition, l’événement aura pour objectif de réunir des chercheurs s’intéressant au double rôle de la presse écrite – que ce soit sur support papier ou numérique – comme lieu de production et de diffusion d’idéologies linguistiques et en tant que moyen de standardisation de la langue, plus particulièrement dans les communautés de langue romane.

Although the tourism communication concept is still to be defined precisely, this international conference aims at exploring the relationships between communication strategies for those who are involved in the tourism industry and tourists. A further complication is that lots of areas are more and more very proposed with a particular identifying emblem. Communication in the tourist industry today is diverse and, from a tourist’s point of view, very confusing. The Conference aims to provide a critical dialogue beyond disciplinary boundaries: Communication research, Geography, Cultural Studies, History, Sociology and Tourism Studies. We’d like to investigate in particular the areas and the actions of communication in the tourist sector.

From Popular Unity to Chile’s democratic transition (1970-2013): cinema, politics, and memory
À l’occasion du quarantième anniversaire du coup d’État militaire du 11 septembre 1973 contre le gouvernement de Salvador Allende au Chili, l’association de doctorants en études cinématographiques Les Trois lumières organise deux journées d’étude. Prévues pour les 9 et 10 octobre 2013 à l’INHA, elles seront consacrées à la représentation cinématographique de la politique du gouvernement d’Unité populaire et de la répression, de 1973 jusqu’à la transition démocratique, ainsi qu’aux manifestations de solidarité internationale des milieux cinématographiques avant et après le putsch.
