Caring for Madness in Medieval and Early Modern Europe: Approaches, Practices, and Representations

Adopting an interdisciplinary perspective, this conference seeks to examine the perception, treatment, and representation of individuals affected by madness in the medieval and early modern periods, whether madness took the diverse forms of melancholy, possession, wandering, or unreason. To this end, it proposes to engage with the contemporary notion of care, understood as an ethics of care, and to historicize it beyond its modern conceptual framework, in order to reassess the relationship to vulnerability and dependency (and interdependency), as well as the dialectic between assistance and marginalization in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

Ethics, Social Intelligence, and the Responsibility of Researchers in Language Didactics and Linguistics

Pursuing the dialogue opened by Michel Dabène that helped bring to the fore more than thirty years ago the need to move beyond the dichotomy between “literary writing” and “ordinary writing.” Since writing is a staging of language, writing practices always reflect an “attention, never entirely absent but more or less acute, to the different levels of the elaboration of the written object (materiality, spelling, lexicon, syntax, textual organization) and by a submission, never totally absent but more or less assumed, to the (linguistic and social) norms that govern these different levels”.

    Fiction et sciences sociales

This symposium is a direct extension of the “Fiction & Social Sciences” meeting organized in May 2024, dedicated to contemporary articulations between fiction devices and social science methodologies. The exchanges initiated on this occasion made it possible to deepen already long-standing reflections on the relationships of competition, tension, but also complementarity between academic and fictional writing, paying particular attention to emerging practices such as fictional investigation. The central challenge was to analyze how the hybridization between the documentary and fictional genres shifts the ways of investigating, writing and reproducing research results.

Literary production and poetic trends among Cameroonian academics

Westward : Women, Literature, and Human Rights in Europe in the 20th and 21st Centuries

    Our brother Dante

    Dante contemporaneo nella World Literature

Nell’ambito del progetto Dante World Writer ?

Textual Bodies: Incarnation, Corporeality, and Affective Materialities through Literature

6th Meeting of Young Researchers of the SELGyC

In the contemporary context, marked by technological, cultural, and epistemological transformations that reconfigure our relationship with sensory experience, the body, and materiality, literature continues to function as a privileged space for critical reflection. In the face of discourses that tend to split, mediate, or dematerialize human experience, literary texts insist on the centrality of the body as a site of vulnerability, affect, and meaning-making.

    Summer School - Representation

Cultivating one’s own garden, expanding horizons

Mapping the personal and the collective through history of art and the humanities, from Impressionism to the present day

The Seine has shaped the history of the Impressionist movement, which, in turn, left a lasting mark on the land. The research framework of this programme places the focus on this influential geographical backdrop, as part of a broader reflection on our regions. Housing traditions, ways of life, social structures, land uses, and the impact of agricultural and industrial development on the landscape are just some of the lines of research that require further study about Impressionism. This summer school aims to open up new perspectives through cross-disciplinary collaboration while experimenting with scales of analysis, to reflect on the experience of land from the most personal to the most universal.
