  Image, Cinema & Politics: the Avant-Garde Dilemma in the Interwar Period (1918-1936)

  In this publication we would like to explore the relation between the post-1918 crisis of the liberal system and the use of art and image as political media including its nationalist, gender and class discourses since they reflect the political and economic transformations of the post-war years. Art and cinema allow us to observe processes such as accelerated urbanisation, electrification and the automobile revolution, the incorporation of women into the waged- labour market or class struggles, all of which fed the insecurity and anxiety of industrialised societies which sought shelter in growing protectionism and corporatism.

  Les XIV^e journées Complutenses d'art médiéval proposent d'aborder la question de la matérialité comme facteur essentiel de la production artistique, ainsi que la poétique de l'immatérialité et la dimension intangible de l'expérience esthétique au cours du Moyen Âge. Les propositions de communication autour des thèmes suivants sont bienvenues : conditions matérielles de la création artistique ; pratiques et moyens sous-estimés ; utilisations poétiques et sémantiques du matériel et de l'immatériel ; histoire culturelle des matériaux ; sensorialité et immatérialité ; « transmatérialité » et « transmédialité ».

  Myth and Audiovisual Creation

  V International Conference on Mythcriticism

  The V International Conference on Mythcriticism “Myth and Audiovisual Creation” will analyze the impact of myth in audiovisual creation from 1900 to the present day. The Conference will be organized in four universities during two weeks.The Conference will be divided into 4 venues according to different themes: "Germanic Myths" in the University of Alcalá, "Classical Myths" in the University Autónoma, "Biblical Myths" in the University Francisco de Vitoria and "Modern Myths" in the University Complutense. Researchers can send to one of their 4 venues their abstracts. They will have to analyze the relevance of film, TV series and video games in the creation and modification of old, medieval and modern myths to our contemporary world.

  IV International Conference of Myth Criticism

  Myth and Emotions

  Along with rational logic there is an emotional logic, responsible for many actions that we carry out. Myth Criticism tends to tackle mythical stories from a structural, social and historical perspective. However, it often ignores the emotional component. It seems as if the affective dimension, particularly active in our contemporary society, is not considered relevant in the studies of mythology. The Conference will examine the function undertaken by emotions in the structure of mythical stories and in the processes of mythification of characters and historical events. The object of the study will focus on ancient, medieval and modern myths in contemporary literature and art (since 1900).
