Artificial Intelligence: From Militarization to Peacebuilding

    “Communications” Journal (2028)

The journal Communications is launching a call for papers for a special issue on alternative approaches to artificial intelligence (AI), focusing on peacebuilding and breaking away from the militarization and surveillance logics associated with AI, robotics, and automation. As a dual-use technology with both civilian and military applications, AI is shaped by the military-industrial complex. Contributions will seek to analyze geopolitical, epistemic, and economic power relations, while advancing social justice and sustainability. The call encourages an interdisciplinary approach, including philosophy, sociology, history, STS, anthropology, political science, political economy, and humanities.

    Sociability, Progress and Innovation (1650-1850)

Tax resistance in the Roman world

Humanitarian aid: An unexpected driver of territorial planning

    « EchoGéo » Journal 76 (April-June 2026)

It is generally accepted that humanitarian aid has an important political dimension. This issue will explore a particular dimension of aid’s political impact: the way in which it concretely shapes territories. This issue will bring together articles based on case studies where aid has played a leading role in spatial planning, whether this planning process was deliberately perceived and designed as such or whether it became established de facto, without any concerted planning; whether it was the result of the intervetion of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and international organisations (IOs) or emanated from the State.

Honouring an interdisciplinary approach to the economic thought of Thomas Aquinas, the conference will address the historical dimension of the texts and their context, the philosophical and theological dimension, the dimension specific to economic analysis and the practical dimension.

Knowledge from the margins, marginal knowledge?

Sources, scope, and legitimacy of critical economic knowledge

The study of economic knowledge and its political influence has largely focused on central sites of power and on its academic production. This conference seeks to broaden that perspective by examining marginalized economic knowledge and the dynamics of its (de-)marginalization. It will specifically address the development of lay or relegated economic theories and practices, considering their logic of legitimation, the actors, spaces, and actions that generate them, and their relative autonomy. The conference will concentrate on the long twentieth century and welcomes proposals from all disciplines within the humanities and social sciences.

    The world in crisis(es)

The word crisis, derived from the Greek word krisis, means judgment, decision. Conceptually speaking, “a crisis is an illness” (a conceptual metaphor justified diachronically by its etymological meaning of “the decisive phase of an illness”), or “it is a war”, if we focus on the meaning of “an outbreak with violent manifestations”. It is, therefore, a moment of major change. Our societies are plagued by successive and often overlapping crises, enabling them - if not forcing them -  to evolve and transform themselves. The conference will focus on two parallel and complementary themes: “The economic crisis / The economy of the crisis” and “Discourse in a time of crisis”.

    Labour inspection and worker vulnerability

Congress 2024 of the Swiss Sociological Association

The globalisation and digitalisation of the economy have accelerated automation, the fragmentation of corporations and the development of new organisational forms. These trends have made employment more precarious. Demographic evolutions, technological change and environmental degradation have also created new risks for workers. Against this backdrop of growing vulnerability, regulatory institutions such as labour inspection have an important role to play in ensuring compliance with health, safety, pay and employment standards. This workshop aims to understand how these issues are articulated in different national contexts.

For a geography of territorial transitions?

Conceptual frameworks, methodological challenges and critical perspectives
