  The grants of the Study Foundation of the Berlin House of Representatives

  The grants of the Study Foundation of the Berlin House of Representatives shall be awarded to young university graduates and students with at least a Bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent) in all fields, in particular the humanities and social sciences, whose research or study projects deal with Berlin or require access to Berlin research facilities. The funds shall be used to advance academic education at all state and state-recognized universities and academic research institutions in Berlin.

  Critical perspectives on new financial circuits for international development projects

  In this conference we look at the ways in which private finance actors or practices are enrolled and associated to the conception and implementation of policies for international development. In parallel to the implementation of policies oriented towards “development goals”, the development landscape has seen over the last decades a transformation in partaking actors that now encompass charitable foundations, multi-national corporations, and financial intermediaries, in addition to multilateral or bilateral public development banks and aid agencies. “Financing development“, in other words finding additional monetary resources, has now become an issue at the top of the agenda of multilateral development actors. Increasingly, these strive to commit private actors and to “lever in“ private money.

  The aim of this symposium is to compare the modalities, in Europe, of administrative, democratic and financial controls and supervisions on local authorities and local elected officials. The symposium, on 2 days, will gather scientific presentations, a Lexical workshop, a world café method with CEMR (Council of European Municipalities and Regions) members, and a “Typola” workshop for the OLA European team leaders. The presentations will describe and compare the modalities of controls and supervisions on local authorities and local elected officials.

  "Dodgy dealing" in the world of economics

  The history of distorsion and perversions in economics and their prohibition in private businesses

  Le colloque est organisé par un groupe d’historiens qui, depuis plusieurs années, mène des recherches dans le domaine de l’histoire de la corruption politique depuis le XIXe siècle. Des études actuelles résultent les observations suivantes : lors des débats sur la corruption en politique, les comportements des entrepreneurs et des entreprises sont régulièrement critiqués, au même titre que le capitalisme industriel moderne est soumis à une critique fondamentale. Le concept de corruption ne recouvre pas seulement la notion de prévarication au sens étroit du terme mais suggère l’éventail plus large de méconduites supposées dans les relations qu’entretiennent le secteur privé d’ une part et les institutions étatiques ou publiques et les hommes politiques de l’autre. Leurs actions conjuguées et leurs interrelations ainsi que le système économique moderne, ont pu être qualifiés selon le verdict moral de « corruption », c’est-à-dire de comportements contraires à l’éthique. Cela vaut particulièrement pour la phase de l’industrialisation intensive entre le milieu du XIXe et le milieu du XXe siècle, quoi que l’on puisse en noter la présence dans les périodes antérieures et postérieures. Dans l’état actuel de la recherche, on ne rencontre cependant que des observations isolées qui, lors de ce colloque, devront être mises de manière méthodique et systématique en relation.
