Five research assistant positions for the project "Decoding Antisemitsm"
For a 3-year research project on anti-semitic hate speech and hate images on the internet, research assistants are wanted. A qualitative linguistic content analysis of social media comments and analysis of image material and text-image relationships related to antisemitic content is planned. In addition, quantitative linguistic methods will also be applied to the social media corpus. For the country teams we are seeking two doctoral students for the English language area, two for the French language area and one for the German language area.

Two post-doctoral positions for the projet "Decoding Antisemitism"
In the three-year pilot project "Identifying the Real Dimension of Antisemitism 2.0 in Europe", an international research team will investigate antisemitic language and image use on news websites and social media platforms of the political mainstream in three European countries (Germany, Great Britain and France). First, the object of investigation is analysed in detail. In the second step, all of the examined phenomena are investigated in their breadth by means of quantitative analyses. Main tasks of the post-doctoral positions will be, on one hand, the qualitative linguistic content analysis of social media comments and analysis of image material and text-image relationships in relation to antisemitic content; on the other hand, the application of quantitative linguistic methods to the social media corpus.

Questions of the new brachylogy in the Renaissance and renascent civic humanism: humanism, conversation, solidarity and democracy
Le concept de nouvelle brachylogie est initié, en 2012, en référence à la pensée socratique, essentiellement par une remise en question du statut exclusivement rhétorique de la brachylogie et par sa remise en valeur en tant que pensée et vision du monde fondées sur l’esprit de conversation et sur l’aspiration à l’idéal démocratique. Après de nombreux colloques, trois congrès mondiaux et dix numéros de sa revue semestrielle Conversations, l’idée est ici de réinterroger l’avènement de la Renaissance en rapport à la pensée socratique et à celle de la nouvelle brachylogie, pour y chercher les fondements divers d’un nouvel humanisme adapté aux conditions du monde moderne.

Existe-t-il une production langagière spécifique, une rhétorique, une structure propre aux récits d’expérience utilisateurs ? et à la fois à la participation du consommateur dans la stratégie de « publicisation » des marques : comment le discours publicitaire met-il en relation un énonciateur et un énonciataire dans une interaction sociale où les deux parties s’imbriquent ? Les communications pourront porter sur la manière dont les publicités mettent en scène les consommateurs, comment elles les représentent, sur les modalités de mise en relation et en conversation d’une marque avec ses cibles, et sur les prises de parole des consommateurs autour des marques, sur les récits d’expérience utilisés à des fins de marketing, sur le design d’expérience. Nous proposons donc de réfléchir aux diverses modalités d’intervention des consommateurs dans la production des messages publicitaires. Une attention toute particulière sera portée aux discours et aux expressions publicitaires sur le web.

Le présent appel s'inscrit dans une réflxion sur la valeur de l'information dans nos sociétés globalisées. Il s'agit de s'interroger, de comprendre et d'analyser la manière dont ces modes de communication de masse contribuent au vacarme général; de saisir comment et pourquoi ils se propagent ; de clarifier aussi de quoi ils parlent et à qui ils s'adressent. Se donner le temps de réfléchir ensemble critiquement afin de développer une littératie pour s'y orienter et que tout cela prenne un sens.

The construction of reality in the post-truth age
We invite papers for the 25th issue of the intersdiciplinary academic journal Interstudia, based at the Faculty of Letters, Vasile Alecsandri University of Bacau, Romania. The proposed topic for this issue is "The construction of reality in the post-truth age". We will accept articles written in English, French, Italian and Spanish whose main points of interest will be related to ideas deriving from these following themes for reflection: the role of language in the construction of post-truth, the manipulation of emotion in the media, ethics and post-truth, the role of humanities in the preservation of human values, truth versus opinion in the post-truth society, the relation among data, information and knowledge, ICT and post-truth, the role of numerical devices in the propagation of post-truth attitudes. These are only suggested topics, and should not be considered exhaustive. authors should be free in choosing their topic of research within the frame offered by the general title.

Writing/Translating social media
Social media are now an integral part of our daily lives and the plurality of uses and misuses of those tools is striking : they range from personal interactions to corporate advertising or political campaigning, and from passive consumption of content to creative practices. Through their interfaces and because of their relation to time and topicality, social media trigger specific modes of writing and translating; they also impact the whole chain of publishing, redefine readership and raise archival issues. On could also mention the recent concentration of mainstream media within the GAFAM and an increased relianceon machine-generated content. We therefore welcome contributions that examine the process of writing and/or translating social media from a creative writing, translation studies, institutional, sociological or economic perspective.

Short writings lab est un travail de recherche interdisciplinaire, collectif et collaboratif, développé au sein du Céditec, sur l’impact des nouveaux formats sur les pratiques d’écriture contemporaines. Les nouvelles pratiques d’écriture et de lecture s’établissent en interaction avec des nouveaux supports d’écriture, issus des nouvelles technologies, qui imposent leurs propres contraintes à la production des textes et, par le biais des formats, réorganisent les discours. L’interaction entre les supports et les pratiques d’écriture telle qu’elle se met en place dans les formats brefs (tweet, post, etc.) constitue un premier objet d’analyse pour développer une recherche de longue haleine ayant pour objet la « littéracie numérique ».

The senses of translation of the filmic "text"
It is impossible to envisage audiovisual translation without keeping in mind the senses: “the translator writes for sight and sound, that is to say for a speaker and a listener, not for a reader”. (T. Le Nouvel). Dialogue is meant for performance and representation, whether in Original Version, or in the various kinds of Translated Versions that may be produced (subtitling, dubbing, voice-over, audiodescription or subtitling for the hearing impaired, etc.). This pragmatic purpose leads to yet another dimension, that of embodiment in its primary meaning: the fleshing out of a character by an actor, which is paramount in dubbing.

Modalités, contraintes et métamorphoses d’un rôle politique.
Le porte-parole, entendu comme celui qui est autorisé à parler publiquement au nom d’un groupe ou d’une institution, reste une figure peu étudiée, en dehors des mécanismes de délégation et de représentation que sa désignation implique. Partant des matrices historiques du porte-parolat (messager antique, intercesseur du divin, crieur public du Moyen-Age,…), le présent colloque s’interrogera, de manière résolument pluridisciplinaire, sur les circonstances d’émergence et d'institutionnalisation de ce rôle politique, sur les modalités et les contraintes qui le caractérisent et sur les métamorphoses contemporaines qu’il connaît : les processus d’individualisation du champ politique, les transformations de l’espace public et des dispositifs de communication, les exigences accrues d’authenticité et de proximité … annoncent-ils la mort du porte-parole ?

La langue, lieu de lutte des féministes comme de leurs contradicteurs, est un espace crucial de signification et de catégorisation du genre. Ce colloque entend construire un état des lieux collectif des approches féministes du langage dans la francophonie. Il se propose en particulier d’être un lieu de rencontre des travaux récents sur le genre et le langage. En effet, alors que l’on constate une médiatisation et un intérêt grandissant pour la question du langage au prisme du féminisme, tout autant que de tentatives réactionnaires de freiner cet intérêt et les initiatives qui en découlent, comment les recherches actuelles sur le genre et le langage se reconfigurent-elles ? Quels nouveaux objets et quelles méthodologies adoptent-elles ?

Africa narrates itself: media, opinions, influential figures
These days communication and information are characterized by immediacy, speed, and interactivity. Facebook and Instagram accounts, YouTube channels, and blogs transmit a perpetual flow of information, shared videos, pictures, and other content which creates networks and incentivizes sharing in a constantly evolving language. Contemporary mass media therefore ensures that, today more than ever, people in African countries are at the same time autonomous producers and users of a debate, through partly traditional, partly innovative channels, about life in Africa and African communities’ identity, with a tale that travels across the borders of individual countries and the continent itself.

Paper, airwaves, screen: from text to audience in African popular culture
This conference aims to reflect on the critical spaces of reading and listening that occur in and around popular cultural texts in Africa – from songs, magazines, romance fiction, and hip-hop lyrics, to blogs, facebook posts, and urban inscriptions. Drawing on the methods of cultural studies, material print cultures, and the sociology of reception, we seek to engage with the critical vocabulary generated by those spaces of reception at a time of transition for the book object and the reading practices which accompany it. How can this material be researched (archives, interviews, ethnographic observation, digitisation, databases)? How is/might it be integrated into teaching across disciplines?

Activism speeches in environmental controversies: social constructions, legitimisations, limitations
Judging by their increase, envirnomnental controversies are a social phenomenon (Notre-Dame-des-Landes Airport, the Sivens dam in France, or the industrialization of goldbearing mines in French Guiana, the exploitation of shale gas in Algeria, the Dakota Access Pipeline in the USA…). Each of them is based on a series of individuals who rise up and express themselves in favor of or against these projects. This symposium aims to study controversies both rhetorical process and means of publicising. We would like to observe how activists forge their discourses and argumentations, how they justify their speeches, as well as the effects of these speeches in the public arenas.

Identity based political discourse in the face of migration
Les phénomènes migratoires interrogent la façon de concevoir les territoires et leurs relations avec les populations. Ces deux éléments ne sont pas figés dans le temps et dans l’espace, ils sont soumis à des modifications et des évolutions qui renouvellent sans cesse leurs définitions et la façon de les appréhender. Nous voudrions ici nous intéresser à la façon dont les phénomènes migratoires sont traités et compris dans les discours politiques identitaires. Les contributeurs sont invités à proposer des analyses de discours politiques (au sens large) et médiatiques (quel que soit le média), dans une perspective interculturelle ou centrée sur un pays, sur des phénomènes migratoires globaux ou plus ponctuels. L’ensemble des articles permettra d’approfondir la réflexion sociodiscursive sur la migration dans une dimension internationale.

L'exemple des langues romanes
Ce colloque s'intéresse à la presse écrite (imprimée et numérique) comme lieu de production et de diffusion d’idéologies linguistiques et comme moyen de standardisation de la langue. Le thème de la langue revêt indubitablement un intérêt particulier pour toute communauté linguistique. En raison des liens étroits qui existent entre les locuteurs et les contextes dans lesquels ils évoluent, la langue donne lieu à des débats et des polémiques variés. En plus de se traduire par des questions concernant la norme et la correction de la langue, l’usage ou encore l’histoire des mots, les préoccupations s’étendent aux enjeux liés aux politiques linguistiques et à leurs effets sur les pratiques langagières des locuteurs.

Structure and Dynamics of Media Flows
This workshop is the closing event of the ANR Corpus Géomédia project, which has had geographs, media specialists and computer scientists working together since the end of 2012. It reflects the aims of the project, ie. to create a tool to capture RSS feeds concerned with international news for a number of newspapers in the world (French-, English- and Spanish-speaking), before using it to answer some research issues: what is an event? how to explain the sub/over-representation of some spaces or actors? can the flow of information be modelised at global scale?
