Limits of humanity, machines without limits?
The contemporary and robotic scene: exchanges and collaborations
Il convient de constater qu’aujourd’hui de nombreux artistes introduisent des solutions robotiques dans leurs créations et interrogent ainsi plusieurs visions esthétiques et concepts trans- et posthumanistes. La scène du XXIe siècle semble être à la pointe des développements actuels de la robotique, comme l’indique le nombre croissant des nouvelles productions dans ce domaine. Pour les roboticiens, cela se traduit par le développement de comportements sociocognitifs cohérents qui produisent chez les spectateurs une illusion de vie, un sentiment d'être en présence de créatures intelligentes et socialement conscientes. Dans les mêmes termes, la scène peut être considérée comme un espace privilégié pour l'étude des comportements humains, où différentes technologies peuvent être déployées pour capturer et modéliser les contingences sensorimotrices humaines. En conséquence, la scène devient un scénario semi-structuré idéal pour le développement de métriques, modèles, techniques et algorithmes capables de décrire l'interaction entre les humains et entre les humains et les robots socialement intelligents.

Nous y interrogeons les formes de légitimation mais également de (re)mise en question des connaissances et des pratiques, dans les relations entre les professionnel.le.s et les malades/patient.e.s et plus largement dans le champ de la santé et du soin. Savoirs académiques et pratiques sont mis en dialogue et chaque conférence est suivie d’une discussion initiée du point de vue de la clinique.

Pour la huitième édition du colloque international du groupe de recherche « Mobile et Création », dans un contexte environnemental sinistré et de mobilisations dans lesquelles les smartphones jouent un rôle crucial pour témoigner visuellement et relayer l’information, nous avons pour visée de mettre en avant la nature matérielle de la culture mobile. En s’attachant à la dimension matérielle de la culture mobile, il s’agit d’enrichir l’approche communicationnelle des usages et des contenus, en s’intéressant aux aspects géo-physiques des terminaux qui le rendent possible. Ce colloque a pour ambition de contribuer à développer une « écologie mobile » inspirée en partie de l’« écologie de l’attention », comme le propose Yves Citton. Une « écologie mobile » qui ne se contente pas d’accabler « l’addictif » comme le discours médiatique nous y a habitué, mais qui s’attaque également au problème de l’extractif.

Tele(visualising) health: TV, public health, its enthusiasts and its publics
Televisions began to appear in the homes of large numbers of the public in Europe and North America after World War II. This coincided with a period in which ideas about the public’s health, the problems that it faced and the solutions that could be offered, were changing. The threat posed by infectious diseases was receding, to be replaced by chronic conditions linked to lifestyle and individual behaviour. Public health professionals were enthusiastic about how this new technology. TV offered a way to reach large numbers of people with public health messages; it symbolised the post war optimism about new directions in public health. But it could also act as a contributory factor to those new public health problems.

Schalten und walten. Towards Operative Ontologies
IKKM Biennial Conference 2019
The conference will conclude the IKKM six-year research program on ‘Operative Ontologies’. A term seeming contradictory at first, it assumes that everything that exists is not simply present or given but has been called into being through media and their operations in the most general sense: The ruling (das Walten) of nature as well as the ruling of the social reside under the command of technology, which as increasingly digitized technology is based on switching operations (das Schalten) — e.g. the achievements of bioengineering or the computational models of planet Earth. When embodied operations establish ontological orders and the difference between the ontic and the ontological thus re-enters the ontic, this demands a radical remodeling of ontology. The IKKM Biennial Conference 2019 therefore investigates the given with regard to the procedures through which it has been made possible, produced, set up, brought into the world and called into being — “switched on” — in the first place.

Tele(visualising) health: TV, public health, its enthusiasts and its publics
The conference aims to bring together scholars from different fields (such as, but not limited to, history, history of science, history of medicine, communication, media and film studies, television studies) working on the history of television in Great Britain, France and Germany (West and East) (the focus of the ERC BodyCapital project), but also other European countries, North and South America, Russia, Asia or other countries and areas. Papers might focus on one national, regional or even local framework. Considering the history of health-related (audio-) visuals as a history of transfer, as entangled history or with a comparative perspective are welcome. The organizers welcome contributions with a strong historical impetus from all social and cultural sciences.

Excess? Images of body, health, morality and emotions across the media
A central goal of the workshop is to open up an international exchange and to connect perspectives from the history of science, the history of emotions, the history of the body and media history in order to shed new light on a history of health as a cultural history. The event is part of the research project “The Healthy Self as Body Capital: Individuals, Market-Based Societies, and Body Politics in Visual Twentieth Century Europe” funded by the European Research Council under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (Advanced Grant agreement No 694817) led by Christian Bonah (University of Strasbourg) and Anja Laukötter (Max Planck Institute for Human Development, Berlin).

Le développement des villes intelligentes, des drones et autres objets connectés permet de collecter une multitude de données qui, une fois traitées, participent à ce qu’il est convenu d’appeler un développement intelligent. Les algorithmes font partie des systèmes qui recueillent et structurent ces informations. C’est d’ailleurs grâce à ces données que les robots collaboratifs, appelés aussi cobots, développent leur champ d’intervention (co-manipulation, exosquelette…). Au-delà de la prouesse technique, ce colloque entend aborder la question de l’appropriation de ces innovations technologiques dans des contextes à faibles infrastructures.

In the television age, health and the body have been broadcasted in many ways: in short health education films, school television, professional training materials, TV ads, documentaries, reality TV shows and news, as well as stand-alone videos distributed to specific audiences. This three-day conference proposes an exploration of how television formats have influenced and staged bodies, health and healthy practices from local, regional, national and international perspectives, and how these TV programmes spread the conviction that viewers could and should invest in their health and shape their own body.

The archaeology of media, ecologies of attention
L’attention que nous sommes conduits à porter aux divers objets constituant notre monde conditionne la façon dont nous nous comportons envers eux. Si les problèmes d’économie de l’attention sont aujourd’hui à la mode, il reste à comprendre l’immense diversité des multiples écologies attentionnelles développées par les sociétés humaines, celles que nous héritons du passé, celles qui coexistent dans notre présent et celles qui s’esquissent pour l’avenir. Bien entendu, dès lors que nos attentions (individuelles, conjointes, collectives) passent le plus souvent par des dispositifs médiatiques (depuis le prêche, le livre, le journal, le cinéma, la radio, la TV, jusqu’au PC, au smartphone et aux Google Glass), on ne peut comprendre ces écologies attentionnelles sans étudier les environnements médiatiques qui les conditionnent.

Reconstitution - heuristic processes and/or an object of mediation?
Les entreprises de reconstitution ont permis d’appréhender des phénomènes historiques difficilement saisissables par le seul truchement des archives, de restituer et de mettre en situation des gestes, des objets en mouvement, des processus, des événements disparus. L’histoire des techniques s’est particulièrement intéressée à cette démarche sous des formes diverses : maquettes, spectacles, mises en scène, films, que l’apport des outils numériques de la 3D a également enrichis et complétés. Or, ces objets se trouvent au croisement de pratiques assez diverses, tant dans leurs productions que dans leurs usages : alors que la recherche fait de leur élaboration de véritables processus heuristiques, ils sont aussi produits à des fins de valorisation dans des contextes muséaux ou de médiations plus « grand public ».

Une analyse du contexte informationnel (discours des médias, communication des institutions, des entreprises, des associations,…) est menée dans le cadre de ce programme.
