Although French woman writer Colette was indifferent to and even critical of the feminist movement of the early 1900s, in the way she lived her life as in her fiction, she exemplified financial and social independence and shame-free sexuality, or what would be call today “gender fluidity”. This international conference will show how Colette represents a vibrant and radical expression of feminism in tune with the #MeToo spirit in today's society

“Marine Feet and Vesuvian Eyes”: The Volcanic Aesthetics of Maria Orsini Natale
Edited Collection
This volume intends to fill a gap in the critical reception of a remarkable Southern Italian woman writer. A journalist, a poet and a writer, Maria Orsini Natale (1928-2010) lived and worked at the foot of Vesuvius, and began writing at age 69, receiving several literary recognitions. Her novel, initially written as Ottocento Vesuviano, then entitled Francesca and Nunziata, and published for the first time in 1995, was also made into a 2001 film directed by Lina Wertmüller, starring Sophia Loren and Giancarlo Giannini. The book earned her a semifinalist’s place in the Strega Prize, the most prestigious Italian literary award, and features a family from Amalfi, dedicated for generations to the white art of pasta making. More than fiction, it illustrates what in Neapolitan is called a ‘cunto’, part historical account and part allegorical tale, derived from a reservoir of collective as well as personal memories.

Si l'institution scolaire est confortée dans ses fonctions fondamentales de socialisation des jeunes générations et de consolidation des acquis démocratiques, si la plupart des Etats ont relevé le défi de l'éducation pour tous, la question de "ce que l'école enseigne ou devrait enseigner" demeure au premier plan des politiques scolaires ces dernières décennies. Le propos de cette journée d'étude qui s'articule autour de trois axes est de s'interroger sur les enjeux épistémologiques et politiques autour des savoirs scolaires, dans une perspective nationale et/ou internationale.

Nous nous limiterons ici aux espaces de la francophonie, qui offrent un vaste champ d’études cohérent, mais cela n’empêchera pas – elle sera bien au contraire encouragée – une mise en perspective grâce à l’étude succincte d’autres aires géographiques et civilisationnelles.

Intitulé Essor de la vie culturelle au XXIe siècle : politiques, interventions et initiatives, ce colloque franco-québécois est né de constats dressés au sujet des effets et des retombées générées par les politiques culturelles qui ont été adoptées depuis les vingt-cinq dernières années, tant en France qu’au Québec ; constats qui sont parfois contradictoires sur la portée de celles-ci et qui traduisent les tensions sociales, ainsi que des mutations socioculturelles, politiques, économiques qui traversent la société.

Ce colloque international et pluridisciplinaire s’inscrit dans une volonté de rapprochement et de comparaison entre les cultures québécoise et norvégienne. Aussi, les propositions qui contribuent à ce rapprochement seront priorisées ; toutefois, tous les sujets liés à l’idée de « frontière » sont les bienvenus, même s’ils traitent d’autres corpus nationaux. La langue du colloque et des communications est le français et la date limite pour soumettre une proposition est le 15 janvier 2014.

Beyond French New Languages for African Diasporic Literature
In recent years, Africans from former French colonies in both the Maghreb and Sub-Saharan regions have been settling in countries other than France and writing in languages other than French. This break with the colonial and postcolonial habits of la Françafrique – the familiar bind of metropole and colony – has been going on for years and is now ripe for analysis. Writing in German, Italian, Dutch, Catalan, Spanish, English, and other languages, these authors suggest new patterns of diasporic belonging and raise new questions about the postcolonial world. Issues of immigration, language choice, cosmopolitanism, global citizenship, and world literature will be addressed. -

Netherlandish culture of the sixteenth century
Interdisciplinary conference
Whereas much attention has been paid to the Burgundian Low Countries of the fifteenth century and the so-called Golden Age of the seventeenth, the culture of the Netherlands in the century in between has long been neglected. Yet the past two decades have witnessed significant research on Netherlandish art, literature, and society of the sixteenth century. The period was famously marked by the twin flashpoints of iconoclasm and revolt, but it witnessed throughout a significant development in artistic, political, and literary culture. This interdisciplinary conference invites papers on topics related to the Netherlandish Culture of the Sixteenth Century. -

The divine painter figure. Demiurgical portrait and self-portrait.
La question de l’autoportrait à la Renaissance n’a pas ou peu fait l’enjeu d’études approfondies dans la perspective de son scénario de production, telle que l’entendrait Victor Stoichita. En impliquant l’idée d’un montage visuel savant établi par l’artiste, le scénario de production tient un discours qui lui est propre sur la peinture et sur la figure de l’artiste. Dans le contexte du nouveau statut de la peinture au Quattrocento comme art libéral, il serait intéressant de se demander comment le peintre met en scène picturalement sa propre nature de créateur. Qu’en est-il du peintre qui se regarde peindre, de celui qui joue de l’usurpation et du camouflage d’identité et se peint sous les traits de saint Luc ou d’autres personnages sacrés? Au sein de l’autoportrait, qu’en est-il de l’emphase placée sur un motif corporel, la main du peintre, laquelle renvoie inexorablement à la littérature artistique de l’époque et au lien indissociable entre concetto et componimento inculto, le dessin et l’esquisse informe ?
