  Mechanisms at work in the construction of heritage narrative

  Le statut d’objet patrimonial que l’ « on » donne à un objet suppose de le saisir comme spécifique et la construction patrimoniale renvoie à une croyance à partager / imposer. Nous nous questionnons sur les dynamiques et les croyances qui constituent une éventuelle spécificité patrimoniale, dynamiques et croyances qui sont le terrain d’action de multiples acteurs qui participent à l'invention de récits constitutifs de cette croyance et des dynamiques qui constituent sa dimension matérielle. Les propositions de communication peuvent porter sur des cas d’études spécifiques, exemplaires, de parcours de patrimonialisation révélateurs de narrations (types, structures, invariances) comme des approches théoriques, comparatives et/ou méthodologiques.

  Le processus contemporain de patrimonialisation, caractérisé par une extension multiple (typologique, chronologique, spatiale) de la notion de patrimoine et des entrepreneurs de patrimoine (acteurs locaux, habitants, groupes sociaux, États-nations, acteurs internationaux), nourrit aussi la production d’un patrimoine alternatif. Par cette expression, nous voudrions attirer l’attention sur les patrimoines non institutionnels et/ou non totalement reconnus, situés sur le « front pionnier » de la patrimonialisation contemporaine. Le patrimoine alternatif représente une alternative à la « chaîne de production » institutionnelle du patrimoine, contrôlée par l’État-nation, par les dirigeants métropolitains ou par de grands groupes privés. Il représente également une alternative aux sites patrimoniaux hyper-spectacularisés attirant les ressources en capitaux, l’attention globale et les flux touristiques internationaux. Ces questions deviennent importantes dans un contexte dans lequel la patrimonialisation est quasi-systématiquement associée à la gentrification et utilisée par le capitalisme tardif, esthétique . D’autres voies, « alternatives », pour le patrimoine et la patrimonialisation sont-elles possibles ?

  1st International Symposium: Hope, Betrayal and Trust

  Part of the Research Program on: Lost Virtues, Found Vices

  This trans-disciplinary research project is interested in exploring the complex and fluid relationships between hope and trust, and how might betrayal play a productive role in this bond. As concepts, ideas or simple notions, hope and trust seem to have simultaneously lost contemporary currency while being ever more necessary in our every day lives. We seem resigned to a kind of hopelessness, seem unwilling to trust others and are ready and willing to betray whomever we might need to in order to advance our own careers or personal agendas. Yet new technologies require us to place personal information online, to communicate with strangers, and to hold onto the promise of happiness. How are our maintenance of hope, our need to trust and our willingness to betray intertwined? How are these concepts evolving?
