  Thinking the Latin American right wings

  IVth International Congress

  The IV^th International Congress Thinking the Latin American right wings follows the three previous ones held in France (2014), Argentina (2016) and Brazil (2018), which have permitted the constitution of a community of researchers working on Latin American right-wings. Several specialists from different countries and disciplines have joined in this network, in order to promote projects and studies on this theme, and stimulated the development of new issues related to this political family. The use of various methodologies such as the analysis of political traditions and cultures, representations and imaginaries, identities, networks, sensitivities and memories have made it possible to consolidate a field of study that has become relevant to understand current Latin American political scene.

  Questioning Spaces of Citizenship in Latin America and the Caribbean

  Latin American History Graduate Student Conference

  Scholars often invoke citizenship as an analytic frame to understand the history of Latin America and the Caribbean. While the concept can encompass a broad range of topics, this conference will focus on the spaces where individuals and groups come into contact with the institutions and symbols of the state. These spaces may be physical places, institutional settings, discursive realms, or other fora. In this graduate student conference, we will ask how such spaces of citizenship are constructed, delimited, and at times rejected, and how the terms of interaction and negotiation in these spaces are defined and re-defined.

  Decolonization in the Third World

  Challenges, Hopes and Limitations

  Dans le cadre du cinquantenaire des décolonisations africaines, la chaire Lucienne-Cnockaert en histoire de l’Europe contemporaine et de l’Afrique organisera les 17-18 novembre 2011 un colloque intitulé « Le Tiers Monde au temps de la décolonisation : enjeux, espoirs et limites ». Ce colloque entend étudier l’ampleur et la complexité des responsabilités et des défis et la diversité des expériences de gestion multiforme de l’indépendance dans les sociétés postcoloniales d’Afrique, d’Amérique latine et d’Asie.In consideration of the fiftieth anniversary of the decolonization of several African countries, the Lucienne-Cnockaert Research Chair in Modern History of European and Africa will be holding a conference entitled Decolonization in the Third World: Challenges, Hopes and Limitations on 17-18 November 2011. This conference will be an opportunity to study the magnitude and complexity of the responsibilities and challenges, and the various administrative paths chosen by the post-colonial societies of Africa, Asia and Latin America.
