  The decolonization of museology: museums, mixing and myths of origin

  43rd Annual International Committee for Museology (ICOFOM) Symposium

  ICOFOM is proposing a symposium around two themes inspired by the process of renewing the definition of the museum and the major trends that contribute to transforming museums (Mairesse, 2015; 2016). These two central themes raise many questions about the primary mission of the museum. Decolonization is at the heart of the fundamental questioning of the social function of the museum. Consequently, these are the discourses, or even the myths of origin of the nations, that are contested.

  Questioning Spaces of Citizenship in Latin America and the Caribbean

  Latin American History Graduate Student Conference

  Scholars often invoke citizenship as an analytic frame to understand the history of Latin America and the Caribbean. While the concept can encompass a broad range of topics, this conference will focus on the spaces where individuals and groups come into contact with the institutions and symbols of the state. These spaces may be physical places, institutional settings, discursive realms, or other fora. In this graduate student conference, we will ask how such spaces of citizenship are constructed, delimited, and at times rejected, and how the terms of interaction and negotiation in these spaces are defined and re-defined.

  Terrorisme(s) et violence(s) politique(s) : état des lieux de la recherche dans le monde francophone et perspectives contemporaines

  Depuis les attentats du 11 septembre 2001, la recherche scientifique sur les phénomènes de violence(s) politique(s) et de terrorisme(s) a connu un très fort développement en termes « de quantité, de périmètre et de diversité » (Crenshaw 2011). Alors qu’on constate un foisonnement des écrits scientifiques dans le monde anglo-saxon, l’étude de ces phénomènes demeure plus confidentielle et fragmentée au sein du monde universitaire francophone. Longtemps frappés d’illégitimité et souvent considérés comme un objet d’étude « sale » (Wieviorka 2008 : 257), le terrorisme et les violences politiques constituent néanmoins un champ d’intérêt croissant pour les chercheurs francophones. Face à ce constat, nous entendons faire des phénomènes terroristes et autres formes de violence(s) politique(s) la thématique centrale d’un colloque co-organisé par l'Institut québécois des Hautes études internationales, la Chaire de recherche du Canada sur les conflits et le terrorisme et le programme « Paix et sécurité internationales (PSI) ».

  The evaluation of theoretical approaches of the analysis of civil conflict in Africa

  81st ACFAS conference

  Dans une approche pluridisciplinaire, ce colloque envisage moins de proposer de nouvelles hypothèses explicatives qu’une évaluation critique des nombreuses hypothèses concurrentes sur l’analyse des conflits en Afrique. Outre une contribution à la recherche académique sur les lumières et les ombres des analyses des conflits en Afrique, ce colloque entend également contribuer à une meilleure épistémologie ainsi qu’à une meilleure méthodologie de l’étude des conflits civils tout en prenant en compte les dynamiques des sociétés africaines ainsi que les enjeux géopolitiques et stratégiques de ces conflits.
