L’association Legs et Littérature (ALEL) lance un appel à contributions pour le 16e numéro de la revue Legs et Littérature, consacré à la thématique des écritures, des pandémies et des catastrophes naturelles qui paraîtra en décembre 2020 chez Legs édition sous la direction de Mourad Loudiyi et Alma Abou Fakher. Il sera question d’approfondir la représentation de la catastrophe ainsi que de la pandémie en articulant cette réflexion à un ensemble de textes littéraires du passé ou appartenant à l’époque contemporaine.

Conceiving the existant - non-human subjectivities in the arts, humanities and social sciences
Les subjectivités autres qu'humaines en arts et sciences humaines et sociales
Ce colloque international transdisciplinaire a pour objectif de réfléchir sur les modalités de présence des existants autres qu'humains (animaux, végétaux, esprits, défunts, êtres de fiction, robots, etc.), tels que tout un champ de recherche en sciences humaines et sociales, de même que dans la pratique artistique, cherche aujourd'hui à les instaurer. Il s’agit, tout en reconnaissant leur autonomie, d’observer leur statut au sein des différentes cosmologies, la manière dont la rationalité dite moderne s'hybride au contact des autres ontologies, mais surtout de s’interroger sur la possibilité de concevoir, sur un plan épistémologique, une subjectivité propre à ces formes d’altérité, tout en restituant, sur un plan expérientiel, leur possible mode d’existence.

What brings us together - rethinking solidarity as a means of resistance in the neo-liberal age?
Repenser la solidarité comme moyen de résistance à l'époque néolibérale ?
Est-il possible de concevoir une solidarité généreuse en dehors d'un cadre strictement national ? Ou plutôt, peut-on penser une conception non oppressive de la communauté politique ? À quoi pourrait ressembler une critique réellement subversive, enfin émancipée des cadres normatifs qu’elle prétend pouvoir contester ? Face à cela apparaît l’urgence d’une convergence des luttes qui transformerait des révoltes trop souvent éphémères en mouvement capable d’impulser un changement global (Laclau et Mouffe,2019). Tout l’enjeu reste donc de recréer un langage et des perceptions capables de recréer un monde commun à même de stopper la désintégration croissante de la sphère politique et publique, que ce soit par la création de véritables archipels de solidarité ou d’une récupération plus radicale de l’appareil d’État.

Thinking the Latin American right wings
IVth International Congress
The IVth International Congress Thinking the Latin American right wings follows the three previous ones held in France (2014), Argentina (2016) and Brazil (2018), which have permitted the constitution of a community of researchers working on Latin American right-wings. Several specialists from different countries and disciplines have joined in this network, in order to promote projects and studies on this theme, and stimulated the development of new issues related to this political family. The use of various methodologies such as the analysis of political traditions and cultures, representations and imaginaries, identities, networks, sensitivities and memories have made it possible to consolidate a field of study that has become relevant to understand current Latin American political scene.

Papers will discuss the social, cultural, ideological, political, behavioural as well as ethical aspects of vegetarian epiphanies.

European and global responses to the concept of “literary engagement” between 1945 and 1968
ACLA 2020 panel
The question of “engagement” (or commitment) became one of the defining elements of post-WWII literature and was, for a long period, at the center of the discussions about the relationship between aesthetics and politics in several European countries. Commonly associated with the name of Jean-Paul Sartre, the success of the notion of “committed literature,” however, went well beyond the French national space. This panel focuses on the transnational circulation of the concept of “committed literature” and, more broadly, on the circulation of related notions, such as writers’ “responsibility,” as well as on any type of counter-discourse or counter-theory targeting “committed literature.” We would like to explore the different degrees of transnational propagation and dissemination of these debates both in regions that absorbed the intellectual debates taking place in France and in the case of countries which remained more impermeable to them.

L’actualité récente autant que la société d’Ancien Régime foisonne d’exemples révélant des justices parallèles aux institutions (polices, tribunaux), se déployant en marge des textes de lois et des rituels judiciaires. Inscrit aux fondements mêmes du lien communautaire et de l’ordre social, ces pratiques, que l’historien Benoît Garnot a conceptualisées par l’« infrajudiciaire », le « parajudiciaire, ou encore l’« extrajudiciaire » (Garnot 2000), se déploient dans les interstices de la justice officielle, hors de la portée de ses lieux de pouvoir et en amont des droits civil et religieux. La dix-neuvième édition du colloque « Jeunes chercheurs » du CIREM se propose d’interroger précisément les diverses formes de ce phénomène de régulation socioculturel opérant dans les zones poreuses de la justice instituée, là même où se développent les expressions du sentiment d’injustice.

Revista “La región central”, vol. 1 no. 1
This first issue of La región central explores the idea of intervention: reciprocal interventions between cinema and contemporary art, but also interventions on the social sphere that may help think the political dimension of contemporary art practices. We propose a monographic issue attending to the political dimension of cinema and contemporary art relations through theoretical and more practical, case oriented critical approaches. We seek to interrogate not just the textual dimensions or phenomenological frames of apprehension of moving images, but also their poetics of production and their potential to critically intervene the social sphere.

Fernand Braudel writes in his The Mediterranean and the Mediterranean World in the Age of Philip II: “The Mediterrenean has no unity but that created by the movements of men, the relationships they imply, and the routes they follow” [1972: 276]. The position of the Mediterranean, at the intersection of three continents, has made it a vital location in these movements of men, women and children. These movements continue, sometimes with tragic consequences, to this day. In the Middle Ages, the meeting of peoples and cultures enabled the exchange of ideas, traditions, texts, languages, and things.

Plusieurs spécialistes seront invités à discuter de l’appui budgétaire en tant que levier du financement du développement. Cette rencontre doit contribuer à créer des connaissances dont le partage par tous les acteurs sociaux sera de nature à construire un nouveau discours autour des finances publiques.

Five Centuries of Cultural Influence
Generations of scholars have studied the multi-faceted experiences of the Franciscans in Mexico and the ways in which the Franciscan order shaped New Spain and the early Mexican republic. This conference examines the range of Franciscan influence and analyzes new scholarship that focuses on the multiple discourses with which friars engaged native peoples, creole populations, the vice-regal authorities, and other actors throughout the Spanish empire. The conference brings together junior and senior scholars to study the long Franciscan experience in Mexico on the eve of the commemoration of the quincentenary of the Spanish — and thus the Franciscan— presence in Mexico.

Les débats politiques et les discussions théoriques sur le « vivre ensemble » s'appuient davantage aujourd'hui sur les idées d'appartenance et de communauté, de pluralisme et de tolérance, d'identité et de reconnaissance. Le retrait de la loyauté et de la trahison politiques est-il avéré, ou s'agit-il d'une question de point de vue, qu'un changement de perspective pourrait infirmer ? Telle est notre interrogation.

Encounters of French-speaking research in the humanities and social sciences on health
Ce séminaire accueille chaque mois un·e chercheur·e en philosophie ou sciences humaines et sociales travaillant sur la santé afin qu'il·elle présente son travail et expose son regard sur l'objet santé. Organisé de manière à favoriser les échanges entre les différents acteurs, profesionnel·le·s, chercheur·e·s en santé ou tout simplement citoyens engagés, ce séminaire se veut un lieu ouvert de débat contribuant à la mise en place d’une réflexion commune sur la santé, sa nature, ses méthodes et ses enjeux. En mettant en outre l’accent sur les travaux menés en français dans ce domaine, il entend revendiquer l’importance de la francophonie dans ce champ de recherche en pleine expansion, et ainsi favoriser sa reconnaissance et son développement dans l’espace universitaire et public québécois.

Utopia in a Post-secular Society: at the Cross-sections of Literature and Philosophy

An element that seems to characterize the 20th century reflection on utopia is its secular nature. Through a re-thinking of the place and roles of religion in society, the post-secular turn we are witnessing in recent theory (Habermas, Taylor, Asad, Mahmood) may provide a critical point of departure for questioning this specific aspect of utopian tradition. In this panel, we invite papers that reflect on the relationship between utopia and religion, as it is worked out in 20th century literature and philosophy: How does the place of the utopian tradition change in the context of the “return of the religion” in a post-secular society?
