The institutionalisation of the skateboard - doctorate in leisure studies
L’objectif du doctorat est de mener une réflexion sur l’essor et le processus d’institutionnalisation de la pratique du skateboard. La réflexion articulera des éléments nationaux et internationaux et se focalisera en particulier sur l’histoire des compétitions et événements de skateboard portés par des organisations ayant des intérêts commerciaux, industriels et médiatiques. L’enquête historique a pour ambition de mieux comprendre le rôle et les intérêts des acteurs et organisations qui portent les grands événements du skateboard tels qu’aujourd’hui le festival international des sports extrêmes (FISE), le Van’s tour series ou encore les X-Games.

Women in the production and diffusion of historical knowledge in French Canada, 19th and 20th centuries
Ce projet de journée d’étude veut mettre en lumière les diverses formes de participation et de contribution des femmes du Canada français au dynamisme d’un champ historique en constante métamorphose. Par là, il entend aussi offrir de nouvelles pistes d’analyse pour déjouer la construction genrée du champ de la pratique historienne et mieux comprendre l’effacement mémoriel de certaines de ses ouvrières. Aux côtés de figures mieux établies, qui retiendront aussi l’attention, se trouvent plusieurs praticiennes n’ayant pas investi à hauteur suffisante les formes canoniques d’expression disciplinaire - la monographie d’histoire, l’article scientifique ou la synthèse historique - mais dont la contribution mérite d’être mieux reconnue et étudiée.

IVth International Congress
The IVth International Congress Thinking the Latin American right wings follows the three previous ones held in France (2014), Argentina (2016) and Brazil (2018), which have permitted the constitution of a community of researchers working on Latin American right-wings. Several specialists from different countries and disciplines have joined in this network, in order to promote projects and studies on this theme, and stimulated the development of new issues related to this political family. The use of various methodologies such as the analysis of political traditions and cultures, representations and imaginaries, identities, networks, sensitivities and memories have made it possible to consolidate a field of study that has become relevant to understand current Latin American political scene.

“Marine Feet and Vesuvian Eyes”: The Volcanic Aesthetics of Maria Orsini Natale

This volume intends to fill a gap in the critical reception of a remarkable Southern Italian woman writer. A journalist, a poet and a writer, Maria Orsini Natale (1928-2010) lived and worked at the foot of Vesuvius, and began writing at age 69, receiving several literary recognitions. Her novel, initially written as Ottocento Vesuviano, then entitled Francesca and Nunziata, and published for the first time in 1995, was also made into a 2001 film directed by Lina Wertmüller, starring Sophia Loren and Giancarlo Giannini. The book earned her a semifinalist’s place in the Strega Prize, the most prestigious Italian literary award, and features a family from Amalfi, dedicated for generations to the white art of pasta making. More than fiction, it illustrates what in Neapolitan is called a ‘cunto’, part historical account and part allegorical tale, derived from a reservoir of collective as well as personal memories.

European and global responses to the concept of “literary engagement” between 1945 and 1968

The question of “engagement” (or commitment) became one of the defining elements of post-WWII literature and was, for a long period, at the center of the discussions about the relationship between aesthetics and politics in several European countries. Commonly associated with the name of Jean-Paul Sartre, the success of the notion of “committed literature,” however, went well beyond the French national space. This panel focuses on the transnational circulation of the concept of “committed literature” and, more broadly, on the circulation of related notions, such as writers’ “responsibility,” as well as on any type of counter-discourse or counter-theory targeting “committed literature.” We would like to explore the different degrees of transnational propagation and dissemination of these debates both in regions that absorbed the intellectual debates taking place in France and in the case of countries which remained more impermeable to them.

Mexican perspectives of France and the United States, 1821-1950
Le colloque programmé vise à analyser les représentations des voyageurs mexicains sur l'autre monde, la France et les États-Unis, pays visités par d'innombrables personnalités politiques et intellectuelles, ainsi que par des témoins anonymes, depuis l'indépendance du Mexique au milieu du XXe siècle. Nous tenterons de déchiffrer ces témoignages mexicains à caractère privé et intime (épistolaires, mémoires, journaux intimes...) sans exclure les chroniques et documents publiés dans la presse sur le monde français et américain entre 1821 et 1950. Comment ces voyageurs, touristes cosmopolites, exilés politiques, artistes en herbe, diplomates ont-ils transcrit leur vision de l'autre, français ou américain ?

The People’s Conference: The Transnational Legacies of 1919
À l’occasion du centenaire de la Conférence de paix de Paris et du Traité de Versailles, le département d’histoire du Collège militaire royal du Canada organise une conférence qui portera sur leur impact sur les mouvements et les institutions internationaux et transnationaux. Jusqu’à présent, les travaux qui ont porté sur la Conférence de paix s’y sont surtout intéressés dans la perspective de la seconde guerre mondiale et de l’incapacité du Traité de Versailles et de la Société des Nations à empêcher un deuxième conflit mondial. Plus récemment, les chercheurs ont tourné leur attention vers l’apparition d’institutions et d’organisations internationales et transnationales créées après 1919.

Globe, revue internationale d'études québécoises, sollicite des propositions d'articles en vue de la préparation d'un numéro thématique consacré au jeu vidéo au Québec. Ce numéro thématique s’inscrit dans la foulée des approches plus locales de l’histoire. Car s’il existe des histoires globales du jeu vidéo telles quePhoenix: The Fall & Rise of Videogames (Herman, 1994), The Ultimate History of Video Games (Kent 2001), The Video Game Explosion: A History from PONG to PlayStation and Beyond(Wolf, 2007) etReplay. The History of Video Games (Donova, 2010), celles-ci se concentrent sur « les gros canons », à savoir les productions américaines, japonaises et européennes. À l’exception du chapitre sur le Canada de Dominic Arsenault et Louis-Martin Guay dans l’ouvrage Video Games Around the World (Wolf, 2015) et de quelques articles publiés dans des revues, entre autres sur les jeux indépendants (comme le Vol 7, No 11 publié en 2013 par la revueLoading...de l’Association canadienne d’études vidéoludiques), on a peu écrit sur la création vidéoludique québécoise pourtant fort riche.

Post-war challenges and issues in Quebec (1918-1919)
Pour faire suite au colloque sur Le Québec et la guerre organisé au Collège militaire royal de Saint Jean à l’automne 2014 et centré sur les effets de l’engagement canadien dans la première guerre mondiale au Québec, cette seconde rencontre scientifique se penchera sur la fin des hostilités et les effets de la sortie de guerre au Québec. L’Armistice du 11 novembre 1918, puis la signature du traité de Versailles le 28 juin 1919, mirent fin au Canada à quelque cinq années d’exception durant lesquelles le gouvernement fédéral avait adopté une approche « totalisante » de la mobilisation de l’ensemble de la société canadienne. Comment vécut-on ce « retour à la normale » au Québec ? Qu’impliquèrent la fin des combats et la sortie de guerre pour le Québec et ses habitants ?

Revista “La región central”, vol. 1 no. 1
This first issue of La región central explores the idea of intervention: reciprocal interventions between cinema and contemporary art, but also interventions on the social sphere that may help think the political dimension of contemporary art practices. We propose a monographic issue attending to the political dimension of cinema and contemporary art relations through theoretical and more practical, case oriented critical approaches. We seek to interrogate not just the textual dimensions or phenomenological frames of apprehension of moving images, but also their poetics of production and their potential to critically intervene the social sphere.

Mais il est un aspect de ce mouvement de fond qui demeure mal compris: les revendications collectives des minorités nationales.

La table ronde internationale « Appui budgétaire : Alimenter le statu quo ou transformer la gouvernance économique ? » vise à favoriser l’échange entre plusieurs catégories d’acteurs : des spécialistes des finances publiques, des chercheurs, des élus, des cadres nationaux et internationaux tant du public que du privé, des bailleurs et des acteurs sociaux. Plusieurs spécialistes seront invités à discuter de l’appui budgétaire en tant que levier du financement du développement. Cette rencontre doit contribuer à créer des connaissances dont le partage par tous les acteurs sociaux sera de nature à construire un nouveau discours autour des finances publiques.

Music and post-war aftermaths, 19th-21st centuries - Music and Nation III
Musique et nation III
Ce colloque envisage le rôle et la place de la musique dans les périodes de « sorties de guerres », pendant lesquelles les traces des conflictualités peuvent être envisagées sous quatre angles : la réouverture des frontières et du retour des soldats, des prisonniers et des exilés ; la recomposition de l’image de l’ennemi ; la mémoire des conflits et la « démobilisation culturelle ». Le transfert des problématiques associées à la notion de « sortie de guerre » dans le champ musical fait émerger un champ d’investigation situé à l’intersection de quatre domaines : celui des relations entre musique et culture de guerre ; celui de la dimension commémorative de la musique ; celui des migrations et de l’exil ; celui enfin des liens entre musique, diplomatie culturelle et propagande. Toutes les sorties de conflits, froids ou chauds, qui ont scandé l’actualité pourront être abordés, ainsi que tout type de musique.

The ends of World War I and their legacies
The Max Weber Foundation, the German Historical Institute (GHI) in Washington DC, the American Historical Association (AHA) with the National History Center (NHC), and the German Historical Association propose to convene a conference that takes a fresh look at the end of World War I, the events of 1917–1923, at the immediate post-Versailles period and at the cultural, social, and political ripples that the postwar settlements sent across the globe in subsequent decades. The conference takes place from March 22-24, 2018 in Washington, DC, at the German Historical Institute.

Après les premières vagues de revendications identitaires du tournant des XIXe et XXe siècles, puis de l’entre-deux-guerres, les années 1960 voient la renaissance et la multiplication des mouvements d’affirmation particulariste en Europe comme en Amérique du Nord. Nous nous limiterons ici aux espaces de la francophonie, qui offrent un vaste champ d’études cohérent, mais cela n’empêchera pas – elle sera bien au contraire encouragée – une mise en perspective grâce à l’étude succincte d’autres aires géographiques et civilisationnelles.
