  Merchant spaces, malls and urban landscapes in a globalised world

  Le centre commercial est souvent désigné aujourd'hui comme un équipement créant de la « désurbanisation » ou associé aux « non-lieux » (Augé 1992), il apparaît comme un des « objet » urbain visible d'une mondialisation financière détruisant les paysages locaux pour produire un paysage standard. Ainsi, à bien des égards, le centre commercial semble surgir, faire irruption dans un paysage familier, voire quotidien, et bouleverse son ordonnacement. Cependant, il ne peut s'établir et connaître un certain succès que dans un paysage urbain, social et culturel en mouvement. Il s'insère peu à peu dans un environnement qui se restructure, il n'en est pas la seule composante mais il en est un marqueur.

  Special S10 session of the 53th conference of the Association de science régionale de langue française (ASRDLF)

  Cette session spéciale propose d’explorer les déclinaisons et modalités de l'écrit et du littéraire comme ressource de développement local, tant sous l'angle du patrimoine matériel – qu’il s’agisse de livres, de cartes, de manuscrits, ou encore de maison d’écrivains et autres monuments – que de celui du patrimoine immatériel – imaginaire, contenu des œuvres, vie des écrivains, etc. Elle est ouverte aux chercheurs de toutes les disciplines qui s’intéressent aux liens entre la littérature et les lieux. On s’intéressera plus particulièrement au tourisme littéraire, aux phénomènes de clusterisation dans ce secteur comme dans celui des acteurs de l’édition et de la critique, aux foires et salons du livre ou encore aux liens entre les institutions de conservation des écrits et des livres (bibliothèques, archives...) et les lieux où elles s’établissent.

  Le paysage culturel, tant québécois que français, s’est beaucoup transformé au cours des dernières décennies. Intitulé Essor de la vie culturelle au XXI^e siècle : politiques, interventions et initiatives, ce colloque franco-québécois est né de constats dressés au sujet des effets et des retombées générées par les politiques culturelles qui ont été adoptées depuis les vingt-cinq dernières années, tant en France qu’au Québec ; constats qui sont parfois contradictoires sur la portée de celles-ci et qui traduisent les tensions sociales, ainsi que des mutations socioculturelles, politiques, économiques qui traversent la société.

  1st International Symposium: Hope, Betrayal and Trust

  Part of the Research Program on: Lost Virtues, Found Vices

  This trans-disciplinary research project is interested in exploring the complex and fluid relationships between hope and trust, and how might betrayal play a productive role in this bond. As concepts, ideas or simple notions, hope and trust seem to have simultaneously lost contemporary currency while being ever more necessary in our every day lives. We seem resigned to a kind of hopelessness, seem unwilling to trust others and are ready and willing to betray whomever we might need to in order to advance our own careers or personal agendas. Yet new technologies require us to place personal information online, to communicate with strangers, and to hold onto the promise of happiness. How are our maintenance of hope, our need to trust and our willingness to betray intertwined? How are these concepts evolving?
