  The gender of professions

  Clomparative perspectives in the sociology of professional groups, the sociology of gender and the the sociology of migrations

  The object of this session is the sociological theorization of the relation between gender and profession. Today, the question is less the exclusion of women from work defined as professional, considering their feinization, than their routine inclusion in ill-defined support roles. The presentations could cross several approaches (of sociology of professional groups, gender, migrations, intersectionality...) to deal with issues like :inequalities in women's access to certain professions, male resistance to women's carrers, delegation of "dirty work", the specific and cultural construction of a masculinist vision of profession work, how professions professes gender, the effects of liberalisation of professions (in many sectors like Health, Culture or Law) on their feminization...

  In September 2011, Porto will be the stage for an International Conference & International Summer University under the theme Borders, Displacement and Creation. Questioning the Contemporary. It will be focusing on the encounter between Contemporary Political Philosophy and Aesthetics, with the contribution of several scientific fields within the Social Sciences and the Humanities. The Conference will be held on the 29th, 30th, 31st August, 3rd and 4th September at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, and on the 1st and 2nd September at Serralves Auditorium.   Diversidades e (des)igualgualdes

  XI congresso luso-afro-brasileiro de ciências sociais

  A cidade de Salvador foi escolhida para abrigar, pela primeira vez, o Congresso Luso Afro Brasileiro de Ciências Sociais, nos dias 07, 08, 09 e 10 de Agosto de 2011. O Evento, que está em sua décima primeira edição, tem como tema as "Diversidades e (Des)Igualdades", que serão discutidos em onze eixos temáticos. Durante os quatro dias de evento, especialistas em ciências sociais e humanidades de diversos países estarão reunidos para debater a diversidade e a complexidade de sociedades diferenciadas, nos mais variados aspectos, como é o caso dos países de língua portuguesa.
