Ethnographing social and development policies in the context of global marketing

Les ségrégations sociales et la répartition inégale des richesses (cf. par exemple la croissance de l’indice de Gini) sont des caractéristiques fondamentales du modèle de développement actuel. Cependant, ces processus globaux s’enracinent diversement selon les lieux et les contextes en fonction notamment des relations des personnes et des sociétés avec ces phénomènes issus de la globalisation, considérablement renforcés par la crise économique mondiale en cours depuis 2008. Ce colloque est ouvert tant aux chercheurs en sciences sociales développant un travail ethnographique qu'aux acteurs de terrain et des mouvements sociaux, avec l’objectif de produire un espace commun d’analyse empirique précis de ces transformations, dans une perspective de socio-anthropologie publique.

15th N-AERUS conference: effective change?

La 15^ème conférence N-Aerus se propose comme plateforme pour explorer et évaluer les moyens de coproduction de savoir pour des transformations tangibles dans les villes du Sud; pour comprendre le monde de manière collaborative et, à la fois, le changer de manière réflexive. Il est donc urgent de se pencher sur les voies par lesquelles populations, universités, bailleurs de fonds et autres acteurs clé du développement peuvent retrouver leur rôle de co-producteurs de savoirs capables de déclencher le changement dans le Sud urbain globalisé. Nous organiserons trois tables rondes thématiques (introduites par la présentation de contributions individuelles) afin de refaçonner les agendas académique, institutionnel et sociétal en matière de définition de cadres innovants pour la co-production de savoirs (1 – Mouvements sociaux, justice sociale ; 2 - Approches participatives, orientées processus et basées sur la demande : le rôle de la coopération au développement ; 3 - Lobbying and the role of academia).

Nutrition and Food Production in the Congo Basin

Nutrition is a universal human right. Population growth and a higher demand for food, together with a changing nutrition pattern, will put the environment, at global level, under a growing pressure in the coming decennia. This pressure will be very strong on regions with a high biodiversity due to the ever growing demand on arable land and an increasing demand for animal protein, which will negatively influence the global ecosystem, the global climate and the biodiversity. The aim of the conference is to highlight a number of topics dealing with nutrition, the demand for food and food production – past and future.

The objective of this conference is two-fold: to promote applied research on the relationships between States, customs administrations and local importers of the so-called developing and emerging countries and to deepen the analysis of informality as a reality in international trade in a multi / inter disciplinary perspective (social anthropology, law, economics, history, political science, and sociology). Professor Keith Hart will deliver a keynote address.

Microfinance and New Left in Latin America

The conference brings a number of stakeholders from the microfinance sector, social and political movements, New Left governments as well as academics together in order to discuss and clarify these issues. We expect to contribute to a common frame of analysis and to identify avenues for a more fruitful articulation of microfinance strategies with the emancipatory agendas of Latin American governments and social movements. The conference is a joint organisation of the Latin American and Caribbean Forum for Rural Finance (FOROLACFR), the French Microfinance Network CERISE (Comité d’Échange, de Réflexion et d’information sur les Systèmes Épargne- Crédit), the Center for European Research in Microfinance (CERMI, Mons University) and the Institute of Development Policy and Management (IOB, University of Antwerp)

Poverty in Medium and Small Cities of Developing Countries

L’objectif de la conférence internationale que l’Académie royale des sciences d’Outre-Mer organise à Kinshasa, en collaboration avec ONU-habitat, est d’analyser les aspects spécifiques de la pauvreté dans les villes moyennes et petites des pays en développement. En effet, les recherches portant sur la pauvreté en milieu urbain se focalisent, en général, sur les mégapoles et les grandes villes. Bien que les villes moyennes et petites jouent un rôle important sur le plan économique et sur le plan social, elles sont souvent sous-étudiées. C’est pourquoi il s’impose de combler cette lacune, ce que réclament d’ailleurs de nombreux chercheurs. La conférence entend cerner les différentes dimensions de cette problématique, à la fois sur le plan sectoriel et pluridisciplinaire.
