Professors, students and public powers in Europe (1848-1945)

Cette journée d’études souhaite, sur la période d’un siècle allant des révolutions de 1848 à la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, interroger la relation entre l’université et le politique. Il s’agira de réfléchir aux liens multiples entre acteurs du champ universitaire, qu’ils enseignent, étudient ou administrent, et acteurs du champ politique, dans l’espace européen. Une problématique centrale que cette journée d’études propose de questionner est celle de l’autonomie du champ universitaire, de sa constitution et de son éventuelle limitation, par rapport au champ politique, dans une période où l’institution universitaire est en pleine expansion et transformée par la formation de nouvelles disciplines, liée professionnalisation et la spécialisation des métiers scientifiques et intellectuels.

Soixante aprés la signature du traité de Rome, l'Union européenne est confrontée à de nouveaux défis : accroissement des migrations à grandes échelles, montée des partis ultra-nationalistes et eurosceptiques et crainte des attaques terroristes. Face à ces enjeux,les reponses politiques européennes ou étatiques semblent marquées par le repli et l'exclusion. À l'aune de cette crise, il est à craindre que les valeurs européennes de tolérance, de démocratie et d'humanisme soient en danger de disparition. Dans ce contexte, il apparaît nécessaire de convoquer le rôle de l'éducation et notamment de la formation des enseignants dans cette évolution et notamment dans la perception des frontières qu'elles soient physique ou mentales.

The Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research is pleased to announce the Call for Applications for the 2014/2015 Georg Arnhold Visiting Research Professorship in Education for Sustainable Peace. The appointment is for a three- to six-month research stay in Braunschweig and offers distinguished scholars from the humanities, political and social sciences, education sciences or law the opportunity to conduct research projects or to finish major publications without teaching or administrative obligations. Individuals with extensive high-level international experience in government or non-governmental organizations or in international organizations may also apply.

The Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research will award several short-term fellowships for visiting researchers in 2014. The GEI’s fellowship programme supports research on textbooks and other educational media. Fellowships aim to provide both young and established academics and textbook authors with the opportunity to use the extensive international textbook collection in its specialist library, conducting comparative studies, exchanging ideas and discussing their findings with the academic staff of the Institute.

Émile Durkheim: sociology and ethnology

La figure d’Émile Durkheim, figure incontournable et classique de la sociologie française mais aussi de la sociologie allemande et anglo-américaine méritai d’être réinterrogée. Aujourd’hui on souhaite ouvrir de nouveau la réflexion et le débat en nous penchant sur la figure de Durkheim comme théoricien et sur son héritage théorique dans les deux disciplines qui nous occupent – sociologie & ethnologie – et dans les différentes écoles et courants. L’accent sera mis sur la manière dont les différentes écoles sociologiques (française, allemande, américaine) ont inscrit le travail de Durkheim entre sociologie et anthropologie le confrontant à d’autres auteurs : Marcel Mauss, Robert Hertz, Henri Hubert, Georg Simmel, Maurice Halbwachs mais aussi Bergson et Tarde.

Geographie(s) of education in european border regions

The making and breaking of (b)orders?

Explorant la question des relations entre frontière(s) et éducation, le colloque « Education et frontières. Géographies de l’éducation dans les régions frontalières européennes : faire et défaire les frontières ? » s’intéressera plus spécifiquement aux régions (trans) frontalières de l’Union européenne et questionnera l’évolution des paysages institutionnels dans ces espaces. Le colloque se fixe deux objectifs. Premièrement, nous souhaitons interroger les changements institutionnels qui interviennent aux différents niveaux des systèmes éducatifs locaux et nationaux (de la maternelle à l’université). Deuxièmement, nous nous intéresserons aux mobilités géographiques des enseignants et des élèves et/ou des étudiants. Les contributions devront explorer la « fabrique » et les reconfigurations des frontières éducatives dans différents contextes européens.

Codicologie et paléographie à l'ère du numérique

Kodikologie und Paläographie im digitalen Zeitalter / Codicology and Paleography in the Digital Age

The conference will focus on the challenges and consequences of using IT and the internet for codicological and palaeographic research. The authors of some selected articles of an anthology to be published this summer by the Institute for Documentology and Scholarly Editing (IDE) will present and discuss their excellent research results with scholars and experts working on ancient books and manuscripts. A panel discussion will be held with renowned exponents in the field of codicology and palaeography and contributors of cutting edge research to get an overview of the state of the art as well as to open up new perspectives of codicological and palaeographic research in the “digital age”.
