  Culture et politique au Brésil : bilan d’une décennie (2011-2020)

  Revue « Brasiliana : Journal for Brazilian Studies »

  Brasiliana : Journal for Brazilian Studies publiera, en août 2021, le dossier intitulé « Culture et politique au Brésil : bilan d'une décennie (2011-2020) » qui a pour objectif de faire le bilan des relations entre culture et politique au Brésil au long des dix dernières années (2011-2020). Les marques temporelles de ce dossier interdisciplinaire seront les mandats de la présidente Dilma Rousseff, les manifestations de 2013, la procédure de destitution de 2016, le gouvernement intérimaire de Michel Temer et l’élection de Jair Bolsonaro. Ces événements marquants seront mis en perspective à travers les analyses qui proposeront de comprendre de quelle manière les relations entre culture et politique au Brésil ont été articulées en lien avec les principaux événements nationaux et/ou mondiaux au long de la dernière décennie.

  Radical Americas 2017: Legacies

  The fifth Radical Americas conference will take place at UCL Institute of the Americas, London on 11th and 12th September 2017. The conference falls in a year of many anniversaries, offering an opportunity to examine the legacies of various radical movements, events, writers, artists and activists. Yet the careful examination of the past should not distract us from the urgent tasks of the present, and we will consider the challenges for radicals in the Americas in the current conjuncture.

  Decolonizing Americas

  Radical Americas Symposium 2016

  The theme of this year’s Radical Americas symposium is “Decolonizing Americas”, acknowledging the long arc of struggle for freedom since the period of European colonization of the Western Hemisphere in the 15t^h century. Our collaborative effort will be to consider how histories within the US, Latin America, and the Caribbean converge and depart in relation to the experience of anti-colonial and decolonizing social movements, many of which continue today. We will also consider the ways that cultural efforts, collectives, art, and intellectual projects shape radical imaginaries of freedom.

  Radical Americas Symposium 2015

  The aim of the event is to bring a range of disciplinary and geographical perspectives to bear on radicalism throughout the Americas. Our definition of radicalism is a broad one, encompassing both political radicalism as an object of study, and radical analytical approaches to the societies and cultures of the Americas. We welcome proposals that deal with any aspect of radicalism, from the democratic and republican radicalisms of the nineteenth century; to the socialist, anarchist, communist, and populist radicalisms of the twentieth century; as well as contemporary identity politics, social movements, and twenty-first century radicalisms.

  Power and Change in the Americas in the Modern Era

  The UCL Americas Research Network invites doctoral students and early career researchers of the Americas (Central, South, and North America, as well as the Caribbean) from across the humanities and the social sciences to submit their proposals on the theme Power and Change in the Americas in the Modern Era. We welcome research that ranges both geographically and temporally, encouraging interdisciplinary conversations on national, regional and local topics and those whose focus is comparative, transnational and global. By facilitating a space for debate, this conference aims to create an ongoing platform for collaborative exchange.

  The Cultures of Popular Culture

  Biennial conference of the Royal Irish Academy Committee for Modern Languages, Literary and Cultural Studies

  Just as the term Popular Culture describes the widest range of practices, Popular Culture Studies cover the most heterogeneous objects. While this very diversity makes it exciting as a research field, it presents a challenge in terms of methods and approaches. To promote scientific exchanges at international level, Popular Culture Studies need elements of comparability and theorization. The biennial conference of the Royal Irish Academy, hosted by the School of Modern Languages at Queen’s University Belfast, intends to offer a forum for discussion between academics, teaching and researching in the fields of Popular Cultures. It will consider the benefits of studying Popular Cultures in Modern Languages Studies and seek to map current areas of research. It presents a distinctive opportunity to discuss corpora and contrast approaches.
