Image, Cinema & Politics: the Avant-Garde Dilemma in the Interwar Period (1918-1936)
In this publication we would like to explore the relation between the post-1918 crisis of the liberal system and the use of art and image as political media including its nationalist, gender and class discourses since they reflect the political and economic transformations of the post-war years. Art and cinema allow us to observe processes such as accelerated urbanisation, electrification and the automobile revolution, the incorporation of women into the waged- labour market or class struggles, all of which fed the insecurity and anxiety of industrialised societies which sought shelter in growing protectionism and corporatism.

Nous nous proposons de revisiter les fictions ultra contemporaines ayant pour héros un créateur confronté à son travail et voué à la production d’une œuvre inédite. Cette thématique très répandue au XIXe siècle revient en force en ce début du XXIe siècle, malgré le discrédit de l’art et de l’artiste du panorama actual et le changement radical de paradigme depuis la Postmodernité. Ainsi, notre volonté est d’interroger la littérature et le cinéma, essentiellement en langues française et espagnole, pour dégager les motivations profondes de ce paradoxal regain d’intérêt.

Complutenses of medieval art, 14th study day
Les XIVe journées Complutenses d'art médiéval proposent d'aborder la question de la matérialité comme facteur essentiel de la production artistique, ainsi que la poétique de l'immatérialité et la dimension intangible de l'expérience esthétique au cours du Moyen Âge. Les propositions de communication autour des thèmes suivants sont bienvenues : conditions matérielles de la création artistique ; pratiques et moyens sous-estimés ; utilisations poétiques et sémantiques du matériel et de l'immatériel ; histoire culturelle des matériaux ; sensorialité et immatérialité ; « transmatérialité » et « transmédialité ».

Jornadas de los Jóvenes Americanistas 2020
Para su 11a. edición, que tendrá lugar en la Ciudad de México (18-20 de junio) y en Madrid (18-19 de junio), los organizadores de las jornadas de los jóvenes americanistas (JJA) proponen una convocatoria centrada en las “Circulaciones de saberes y relaciones de poder (de la época prehispánica a nuestros días)”. En la Ciudad de México, las Jornadas se desarrollarán en el marco de un taller y vendrán precedidas de un coloquio internacional titulado “Agarrar el siglo XX por el cuello. Mitologías europeas y estados del mundo: un balance”, del 15 al 17 de junio.

Dialogues in the Late Medieval Mediterranean
Methodological encounters and (dis)encounters
The aim of this workshop is to launch a methodological exchange forum to analyze the panorama of the late medieval Mediterranean from different and complementary perspectives. During the last years, an increased number of projects focused on the relations between East and West, Christianity and Islam or North Africa and Al-Andalus had emerged in the international scenario. In the framework of these current research projects, this workshop has been proposed to achieve two main objectives: to create a dialogue space to share the recent research results of these projects, as well as to establish new research networks integrated by senior and young researchers which allow the development of multidisciplinary research lines about the late Middle Ages.

Body, culture and identity in Lavapies, Madrid
From the individual to the collective
The objective of this Seminar is to stress the importance of a collaborative and participative way to understand through our senses. We want to explore connections between thinking and action in everyday city experiences, developing “in situ” actions. We consider that the knowledge of the space need space experiences. We aim to develop a collective, community exploration of the vital flow of the Lavapiés area in Madrid altering the classical relationship between artist, landscape and inhabitants. This exploration will allow the construction of an intangible map of audiovisual fragments, photo, phonographs, video art, performative actions. The direct experimentation of space helps us understand it, as well as "to perform it"; it helps us understand the aesthetic and emotional relationships we have with it. In order to get our objectives, urban artists, soundscape experts, theater groups, architects, philosopher, civil and social associations, citizens…will be invited.

Migravit a seculo. Muerte y poder de príncipes en la Europa Medieval
El objetivo del coloquio es el análisis de la muerte como instrumento de poder por parte de las élites (los “príncipes”) medievales, desde los miembros de la realeza o la jerarquía eclesiástica hasta la aristocracia militar o el patriciado urbano. Dado el carácter multidisciplinar escogido, el acercamiento que ofrezcan los ponentes pueden ser de muy diverso tipo, y por tanto también los enfoques de acercamiento; desde perspectivas generales hasta casos particulares, que permitan la comparación en el tiempo y el espacio, pero también establecer la necesaria interrelación desde los diferentes campos de análisis. Por la misma razón, el elenco de ponentes contempla, junto a los miembros del equipo de investigación de MIGRAVIT-SEPULTUS que organiza el coloquio, la presencia de otras relevantes figuras del panorama científico europeo en sus respectivos campos, desde la historia general a la historia del arte, la musicología o la biología, para poder poner en común con ellos los resultados más relevantes de las investigaciones realizadas a lo largo de los tres último años.

Various sources have been used to develop the field (registers/proceedings of ecclesiastical institutions, of tribunals and of urban institutions; notarial registers; correspondences of princes and of their representatives, those of cities, of bourgeois and of theologians, diaries and memoirs of contemporaries; theological treaties; etc.).

XI Congreso Internacional de Historia de la Cultura Escrita
El XI CIHCE se convoca como culminación del proyecto de investigación que el SIECE-LEA (Seminario Interdisciplinar de Estudios sobre Cultura Escrita/Grupo Lectura, Escritura, Alfabetización) ha estado desarrollando en los últimos años en el seno del Área de Ciencias y Técnicas Historiográficas del Departamento de Historia y Filosofía de la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras de la Universidad de Alcalá: «Scripta in itinere». Discursos, formas y apropiaciones de la cultura escrita en espacios públicos desde la primera Edad Moderna a nuestros días, financiado por el Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades, y la Agencia Estatal de Investigación (HAR2014-51883-P). Con ese propósito, y respondiendo a las líneas que se han trabajado en el marco del mismo, todas aquellas personas interesadas en participar podrán presentar comunicaciones en torno a los ejes temáticos que se describen a continuación.

V International Conference on Mythcriticism
The V International Conference on Mythcriticism “Myth and Audiovisual Creation” will analyze the impact of myth in audiovisual creation from 1900 to the present day. The Conference will be organized in four universities during two weeks.The Conference will be divided into 4 venues according to different themes: "Germanic Myths" in the University of Alcalá, "Classical Myths" in the University Autónoma, "Biblical Myths" in the University Francisco de Vitoria and "Modern Myths" in the University Complutense. Researchers can send to one of their 4 venues their abstracts. They will have to analyze the relevance of film, TV series and video games in the creation and modification of old, medieval and modern myths to our contemporary world.

Journées des jeunes américanistes 2018
L’extrême violence qui sévit aujourd’hui en Amérique latine peut-elle constituer un observatoire privilégié des phénomènes de violence à différentes échelles spatiales et temporelles ? La « violence de rétribution » (Beik, 2007) des subalternes en demande de justice peut s’opposer à la « violence légitime » de l’Etat (Weber, 1998 [1971]), à la « violence symbolique » (Bourdieu, 2012) des institutions, ou encore à la violence structurelle des rapports d’oppression de classe, de genre et de race. L’objectif sera de proposer une démarche pluridisciplinaire de l’étude de la violence – trop souvent cantonnée à des champs disciplinaires – ainsi que d’identifier les problématiques permettant de penser l’intrication des différentes échelles d’analyse.

It is not possible to ignore the fact that cities are not only moving, vibrant and flourishing spaces, promising hope for better quality of life, but also accumulate and reflect significant problems. We need to recognise the complexity of economic, political, social, cultural and environmental mechanisms, which strengthen existing inequalities and add a great deal of uncertainty to life in cities and urban spaces of the globalised world. We want to gain a better understanding of the impact and consequences of inequality and uncertainty on the urban arena as much as the responses to current challenges in terms of both informal and institutional practices.

Las Jornadas de los jóvenes americanistas es un evento organizado por y para universitarios que se encuentran en el inicio de su carrera de investigación, con el fin de proponer un espacio de discusión interdisciplinaria e internacional, abierto a las diferentes disciplinas y metodologías de las Ciencias Sociales y Humanas. Las octavas JJA, Espacios y lugares de los conflictos, se desarrollarán en forma simultánea en Lima, los días 3, 4 y 5 de julio de 2017, y en Madrid, los días 3 y 4 de julio de 2017. Esta edición será una oportunidad para establecer nuevos puentes de reflexión científica y de colaboración entre América Latina y Europa.

The Americas, Africa, Asia, and Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries
La notion de métissage ibérique a été étroitement liée à la définition d’une première mondialisation et d’un premier temps colonial, celui des empires ibériques à l’époque moderne. Elle renvoie à un processus d’homogénéisation qui résulte des contacts entre « naturels » et « étrangers » à la terre. Cette notion est souvent confondue avec celles de mélange, de mixité, d’hybridité ou de syncrétisme. L’ambition de cette rencontre est d’interroger la fabrique locale des empires ibériques en revenant sur les « pas perdus » des constructions impériales ibériques aux XVIe-XVIIe siècles. Il s’agit de considérer le rôle politique des groupes sociaux différenciés métissés et/ou indigènes dans la formation des empires hispanique et portugais.

5th international congress “Sport, doping and society”
The 5th international congress “Sport, doping and society” is organized by the Spanish Agency for Health Protection in Sport (AEPSAD) and the Technical University of Madrid (UPM). Under the theme “Think Clean”, there will be presented the results of scientific researches and new methodologies in the field of doping in sport from the specific perspective of Human and Social Sciences. We believe that this initiative will contribute to identify the factors that influence the use of doping substances and methods. From this knowledge we hope to foster future prevention and doping control and to promote ethical behavior in sport.

Ce colloque reprend l’hypothèse de la « longue durée » de la formation des catégories raciales aux Amériques, en Europe, sur les côtes d’Afrique et d’Asie, en s’intéressant aux perceptions développées au sein des divers « espaces d’expérience ». Il s’agit en premier lieu de réfléchir aux dynamiques socio-culturelles, socio-économiques et socio-cognitives particulières à partir desquelles émergèrent les catégories.
