  Northern Relations

  Canadian Communication Association (CCA) Annual Conference 2021

  As a theme, “Northern Relations” encourages delegates to explore the connections between peoples, communities, cultures, and ways of knowing, while also listening to those voices that speak directly to some of the most pressing matters of relation (to the land, to each other) in the North: climate change, governance, social justice, reconciliation, reciprocity, education, and much more. A relation is not only an association and an affiliation, it is also an act of telling or reporting; relations are at the heart of how peoples communicate, organize knowledge, and understand their place in the world.

  The colloquium on the Micropolitical Aspects of Language Policy will form part of the Multidisciplinary Approaches in Language Policy and Planning Conference (Calgary, Canada) , September 4-6 2014. The aim of the symposium is to explore micropolitical agency in language policy from a variety of points of view: narratology, didactics, theory, anthropological linguistics, language and area studies, corpus linguistics, language economics, etc.

  Pour Roger Arnaldez, toute langue parlée porte en elle des puissances d’action qui sont, pour ceux qui savent la manier, la source d’un pouvoir de création magique ou religieux ; elle confère un pouvoir d’incantation qui nous permet de nous emparer de l’esprit de ceux à qui nous parlons [1990]. Mais avant qu’on ne lui défère une puissance de création et de possession religieuse dans un monde « désenchanté », Georges Gusdorf faisait remarquer que pour de nombreuses religions, la langue, dans l’installation et l’explication du réel, lorsqu’elle n’est pas représentée comme le vicaire de la Puissance, apparaît comme consubstantiellement liée à l’existence de celle-ci [1952]. Et au moment où des religieux de traditions diverses ont fait du langage un auxiliaire de la foi, la littérature fut tour à tour considérée comme un « substitut du mythe », un « geste intimement lié au religieux » voire un geste fondamentalement religieux [E. Paquette : 1991].
