17th international Slav studies conference
Le XVIIe congrès international des slavistes se tiendra à Paris, au Centre Malesherbes de Sorbonne Université du 28 août au 1er septembre 2023. Ce congrès, qui réunit tous les cinq ans les slavistes du monde entier — spécialistes de langue, littérature, histoire, — s’est tenu pour la première fois à Prague en 1929. C’est la première fois dans son histoire qu’il se réunira dans un pays non-slave, l’année même du centenaire de l’Institut d’études slaves.

Le présent appel invite à réfléchir sur les rapports entre les médias et les plateformes numériques en Afrique. Il s’agit d’analyser les mutations engendrées par ces plateformes dans les processus de production et de diffusion de contenus. Les contributions attendues peuvent porter sur les enjeux à la fois éditoriaux, politiques et socioéconomiques qui définissent les rapports entre les éditeurs (professionnels, amateurs) et les plateformes numériques, sur les pratiques et usages qui entourent ces relations mais aussi sur leur encadrement.

Session at The Renaissance Society of America Annual Meeting 2021
This panel aims to bring together coordinators of digital projects - completed or in progress - around the lexicon and the scientific edition of texts of artistic or technical literature, with researchers who have adopted this terminological approach to analyze in an innovative way well known or unpublished texts, related to the production, the practice of the arts and interpretative theories derived from practice and which marked the history of taste. The papers will aim to provoke discussions about the method, contributions and perspectives of the lexicographic approach in the artistic field, in an interdisciplinary logic, in order to federate language historians, digital humanities specialists and art historians.

Intersections. New perspectives for public humanities
HFC-INT 2020
The international network Humanities for Change, in accordance with the interdisciplinary spirit and the contaminatory approach that characterize its activities, intends to organize a day of study on the theme of public humanities. The meeting aims to stimulate some reflections coming from different fields of knowledge and to encourage the dialogue between researchers on the possibilities of the humanities to escape from academic circles. In this sense, the main object of study is the analysis of methodologies and tools related to knowledge dissemination practices for historical, artistic and philological-literary disciplines. Particular attention will also be given to new professional figures connected to the degree courses of the humanities faculties (such as the 'public historian') and to the interactions of these professional figures with the new media of communication and mass dissemination.

"Are you alive?" Interaction with humans, interacting with machines
Cette table ronde est organisée par l'Institut d'études avancées de Paris dans le cadre de la Nuit des Idées 2020 sur le thème commun « Être vivant ». À l’heure où les intelligences artificielles et des avatars remplacent les automates des centres d’appel et où les services sont de plus en plus exécutés par des robots, il devient parfois difficile de distinguer au premier abord à quel type d’interlocuteur on a affaire. Se pose alors la question de la différence entre les interactions avec des êtres vivants et celles avec des machines. Cette interrogation a bien sûr un aspect philosophique, sur ce qui fait la spécificité irréductible de l’humain. Mais elle revêt aussi une dimension pratique puisqu’elle nous amène à réfléchir à la façon dont pourront et devront être conçus les services de demain.

Artistic, Digital, and Political Creation in English-Speaking African Countries
Africa 2020
French President Emmanuel Macron announced on 3rd July 2018 in Lagos that a Special Season would be organized in France, from June to December 2020, to mark a renewed partnership with Africa, a “varied, strong and diverse continent that will play a part in our shared future”. Even if this cultural focus cannot be abstracted from a broader geopolitical agenda marred by controversial presidential declarations, it nevertheless has the potential to offer a somewhat different coverage of the continent. One can only hope that it avoids the temptation to officially “curate into being” “exceptional” artists (Dovey), tapping into the all-too-familiar image of Africa as “the supreme receptacle of the West’s obsession with, and circular discourse about, the facts of ‘absence,’ ‘lack,’ and ‘non-being,’ of identity and difference” (Mbembe).

From postmodernism to posthumanism. Latin-American literature and cinema
Suite à la journée d’étude « Le temps du posthumain ? » qui s’est tenue à l’université Paris Diderot-Paris 7 et à Bétonsalon – Centre d’art et de recherche le 2 juin 2017, il s’agit de poursuivre la réflexion autour du posthumanisme et ses représentations littéraires et cinématographiques, cette fois-ci en Amérique latine.
Initialement programmée le 4 juin de cette année, la journée consacrée à la question « Du postmodernisme au posthumanisme. Littérature et cinéma latino-américains » est reportée et sera accompagnée par une autre journée sur le même sujet mais sans les limites géographiques et chronologiques. Le présent appel concerne cette dernière journée. Le colloque aura lieu les 27 et 28 novembre 2020.

Africa 2020: Artistic, digital, and political creation in english-speaking African countries
French President Emmanuel Macron announced on 3rd July 2018 in Lagos that a Special Season would be organized in France, from June to December 2020, to mark a renewed partnership with Africa, a “varied, strong and diverse continent that will play a part in our shared future”. The peer-reviewed journal of Aix-Marseille Université research centre on Anglophone Studies (LERMA), E-rea, has decided to seize the opportunity of Africa 2020 to dedicate a special issue to contemporary artistic, digital, and political creation in English-speaking African countries. Heeding Kenyan political analyst Nanjala Nyabola’s advice to eschew the too reductive ‘Africa rising’ and ‘Africa failing’ narratives in favour of ‘Africa being’ stories, this special issue wishes to focus on “stories reflecting the ambivalence, complexity, challenges and opportunities of African societ[ies] in an increasingly connected world”.

New technology-based metamorphosis in Japan
In Japan, the kyara-ka phenomenon, ‘transforming into a character’ (Aihara Hiroyuki, 2007) is now giving birth to what Nozawa Shunsuke (2013) calls ‘an emerging art of self–fashioning.’ Based on elaborate disguise techniques, the kyara-ka phenomenon covers a variety of communication strategies and practices: cosplay, kigurumi, Vtubing, utaloid voice banks, use of voice-image filters to upload videos where humans look like characters… Exploring all the aspects of this ‘thingification of humans’, the conference will reflect on how and why a growing number of people market themselves as characters. The conference goal is to address the complexity of issues raised by these voluntary and, perhaps, ironical acts of obliteration. What is the profile of men and women who transform themselves into computer-graphic creatures? How do they deal with being loved only through their digital alter-ego? What little or grand narratives are being produced alongside? Can we still deal with the phenomenon in terms of authenticity (original) versus artificiality (copy)? What negotiations or refusals underly the use of characters as social masks?

Second young researchers' conference in historical linguistics in Lyon
L’association lyonnaise Diachronies contemporaines, vouée à la promotion de l’activité scientifique des jeunes chercheurs en linguistique historique, organise les Deuxièmes rencontres lyonnaises des jeunes chercheurs en linguistique historique. Après une première édition dédiée spécifiquement aux langues gallo-romanes, cette seconde édition entend s’ouvrir également à l’étude des langues anciennes indo-européennes. L’objectif de l’événement est de permettre aux jeunes chercheur·ses travaillant sur l’histoire des langues anciennes et gallo-romanes de présenter leurs travaux et d’échanger à ce sujet. La forme de ces rencontres est celle d’un colloque traditionnel à la suite duquel des actes seront édités.

Topography and urban planning in Ancient Rome
Dans le cadre du projet «Plan de Rome virtuel», l’équipe ERLIS organise, un colloque international réunissant les principaux spécialistes actuels de la Rome antique.
Il s’agit cette fois de se concentrer plus particulièrement, sur des questions de topographie, d’urbanisme, de «forme urbaine». Les communications contribueront d’une manière ou d’une autre au travail de restitution virtuelle de la Rome de 320 ap. J.-C., mais les sujets abordés seront divers: questions de localisation et d’identification des édifices, réseau viaire, habitat et commerces, espaces verts, adduction d’eau et assainissement, relief… Émergeront aussi des thématiques particulières telles que la présence des premiers édifices chrétiens au début du IVe siècle, l’état physique des bâtiments publics et privés (que peut-on savoir de l’état de dégradation de certains d’entre eux à cette époque?), l’ambiance sonore de la ville…

À travers un dialogue transdisciplinaire parmi des théologiens, philosophes, experts des médias, du numérique et de l’intelligence artificielle, ce colloque international propose de réfléchir sur l’usage des organes de notre corps comme une sorte de composante adjointe d’artefacts technologiques, notamment numériques, virtuellement connectés. Il cherchera également à approfondir la convergence entre certaines tendances technologiques et politiques actuelles, ainsi qu’à renouveler notre compréhension de la fonction culturelle des médiations.

Pour la huitième édition du colloque international du groupe de recherche « Mobile et Création », dans un contexte environnemental sinistré et de mobilisations dans lesquelles les smartphones jouent un rôle crucial pour témoigner visuellement et relayer l’information, nous avons pour visée de mettre en avant la nature matérielle de la culture mobile. En s’attachant à la dimension matérielle de la culture mobile, il s’agit d’enrichir l’approche communicationnelle des usages et des contenus, en s’intéressant aux aspects géo-physiques des terminaux qui le rendent possible. Ce colloque a pour ambition de contribuer à développer une « écologie mobile » inspirée en partie de l’« écologie de l’attention », comme le propose Yves Citton. Une « écologie mobile » qui ne se contente pas d’accabler « l’addictif » comme le discours médiatique nous y a habitué, mais qui s’attaque également au problème de l’extractif.
