Scholarships in Berlin - Study Foundation of the Berlin House of Representatives
The Study Foundation of the House of Representatives is a grant programme for young researchers from the United States of America, Great Britain, France, and the successor states of the Soviet Union, who want either to work on Berlin along with German as well as German-international issues or to use research facilities in Berlin. The Study Foundation of the Berlin House of Representatives shall contribute to the further development of a generation of young scholars from the aforementioned states whose research issues deal with Berlin or Germany. Moreover, the young researchers shall use their stay in Berlin in order to make themselves familiar with the political and social system in Berlin and Germany, and build lasting relationships between themselves and with the Berlin House of Representatives. Thus, the Foundation seeks to awaken or strengthen long-term interest in and understanding of Germany in the aforementioned states.

Research and innovation practices in non-academic settings in Europe (17th-21th Centuries)
The aim of this conference is to examine the production of scientific, medical, technical and artistic knowledge in non-academic settings in Europe between the 17th and 21st centuries. The point is to understand who these non-academic social actors were, and to study the interactions between their research conditions, the knowledge produced and its reception. No presupposition on the marginality of or indeed centrality of said social actors should be deduced from the wording of the question. On the contrary, it calls for a study of the complex interactions between social and scholarly social spheres.

Call for papers - Representation
Music history is a matter of research, it is a matter of novels, films, comics or computer games. Also: Music history is subject matter to music theater. Performances of music history lie at the center of this conference: Be it André-Ernest-Modeste Grétry’s opera prologue “Les trois ages de l’opéra”, Hans Pfitzner’s opera “Palestrina” or Franz Wittenbrink’s revue “Die Comedian Harmonists”, Heinrich Berté’s Schubert-operetta “Das Dreimäderlhaus”, Randy Johnson’s musical “A night with Janis Joplin”, or Mauricio Kagel’s Liederoper “Aus Deutschland” – historical musicians, artistic agency and musical artifacts have been negotiated in music theater for centuries. Music theater deals with a broad spectrum of music history, spanning from the medieval troubadours to the present creations of Pop, Rock, Jazz and New Music.

Beyond disciplinary boundaries
The practices of historical social sciences in France and Germany

Émile Durkheim: sociology and ethnology

Beyond Signification. The Return of Reality and the Crisis of Poststructuralism
Graduate Conference Philosophy FU BERLIN
Today a growing number of people in the Humanities suggest that the times of poststructuralism have come to an end. According to them we concentrated on symbols, signs and discourse for far too long. Did we not thereby forget the reality of things? How do we account for the materiality of media, experiments, and writing? What happened to reality, substantiality and presence? This conference aims at discussing contemporary criticism of poststructuralism, its historical conditions, its impact on the present, and its implications for the future. Does poststructuralism really fail to acknowledge reality? How do we evaluate the emerging new theories that challenge poststructuralism?
