  Africa narrates itself: media, opinions, influential figures

  These days communication and information are characterized by immediacy, speed, and interactivity. Facebook and Instagram accounts, YouTube channels, and blogs transmit a perpetual flow of information, shared videos, pictures, and other content which creates networks and incentivizes sharing in a constantly evolving language. Contemporary mass media therefore ensures that, today more than ever, people in African countries are at the same time autonomous producers and users of a debate, through partly traditional, partly innovative channels, about life in Africa and African communities’ identity, with a tale that travels across the borders of individual countries and the continent itself.

  Publishing in a changing media environment

  New products, new organizations and new research models

  The European publishing studies association (EuroPub) aims to foster the exchange of knowledge around the contemporary book trade. This three-day conference brings together industry professionals, educators, and scholars to examine key issues around the digital transformation of the book, as well as to discuss the developing field of publishing studies. In previous years we have discussed topics ranging from the evolution of cultural habits (Building audiences, 2016) to the development of publishing skills (Curation. A perspective on the book industry, 2017). By the Book 5 will focus on innovation in order to identify the nature and drivers of change within the industry.

  Building Audiences for the Book in an Age of Media Proliferation

  By the book 3

  "By the Book 3" brings together scholars from the field of publishing studies, alongside industry professionals, to examine key issues around the digital transformation of the book, as well as to discuss the developing field of publishing studies. If we examine global book production over the last 70 years, there is a clear discrepancy between the growth in population, the number of titles published, and the number of books sold and lent. This divergent trends in book production and consumption pose a set of pressing questions related to the publishing economy, marketing and skills.

  From Humanities Computing to Digital Culture

  Conference in memoriam of Giuseppe Gigliozzi

  Il 28 ottobre 2011 ricorre il decennale della scomparsa di Giuseppe Gigliozzi. La sua figura di studioso e di docente ha rappresentato un punto di riferimento fondamentale per lo sviluppo dell'Informatica Umanistica in Italia. Per ricordare la sua figura, DigLab (http://digilab.uniroma1.it/) Mediateca delle Scienze umanistiche dell’Università di Roma La Sapienza e la Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia dell’Università Roma Tor Vergata, con il patrocinio dell'Associazione per l'Informatica Umanistica e la Cultura Digitale, organizzano un convegno di studi che si svolgerà nelle rispettive sedi nei giorni 27 e 28 ottobre. I lavori si articoleranno in tre sessioni tematiche.

  Net Powers. Freedom and Control in the age of the web

  « Poteri nella rete. Libertà e controllo dell’informazione nell’era di Internet ». Nel seminario Enrico Pedemonte e Glauco Benigni dialogano con Teresa Numerico e Domenico Fiormonte. L’incontro, aperto a tutti, è l’occasione per riflettere sulle contraddittorie tendenze dell’informazione e del giornalismo in rete, sempre più in bilico fra entusiasmi libertari e politiche securitarie. I due invitati, entrambi scrittori e giornalisti per testate come Repubblica e L’Espresso, offrono nelle loro recenti pubblicazioni prospettive diverse e originali sull’evoluzione del quarto potere in rete.
