Travel to, in, and from the Ottoman World and Turkish Republic
Turkish Journal of History (Tarih Dergisi)
For this special issue of Tarih Dergisi, the Turkish Journal of History, we invite original research addressing questions arising from travel to, in, and from the Ottoman Empire and Turkish Republic. Essays may focus on the place of travel writing in historiography. They may also address any and all aspects of travel. We particularly welcome studies of travel works in any format – books, manuscripts, letters, diaries, journals, reports, log-books, cartography, web-blogs – by Ottoman, Turkish, Arab, Asiatic and African travellers of any period. Essays need not, however, be restricted to conventional travelogues by individual travellers. We welcome studies concerned with modes of travel (pedestrianism, equestrian travel, trains, cars, planes, boats), and with questions involving mass travel (migrancy, nomadism, deportation).

Congist'19 - International Congress of Social Sciences
La faculté des lettres de l’université d’Istanbul organise, en partenariat avec l’université de Limoges et l’Association de langue et littérature de Turquie, un congrès international des sciences sociales (CONGIST’19) intitulé « La ville et ses langages ». Le congrès qui a pour objectif de discuter et d’avancer des propositions sur les relations entre la ville et le langage aura lieu les 18-20 septembre 2019 à la faculté des lettres de l’université d’Istanbul.

The development of cinephilia and the promotion of French and local cinemas
The contribution of the French Institutes and the Alliances françaises
The role of movie theatres in the development of cinephilia is a field which has been the subject of a number of researches . Among these venues, a specific section consisting of those of the network of French cultural institutions abroad has not been analysed. Yet they have encouraged and still make a significant contribution to the dissemination and the promotion of cinema. The French cultural action outside France in general has been widely studied, cinema-related action, however, has been neglected. The aim of this colloquium is to remedy this lack and to highlight this contribution to the development of the cinephilia and to the promotion of French and local cinemas, including the encouragement of young creation and the emergence of new talents.

Not All Quiet on the Ottoman Fronts
Neglected Perspectives on a Global War, 1914-18
As World War I was the central founding experience of the twentieth century and thus needs to be discussed in relation to various segments of society and on several levels, we believe that its 100th anniversary is the appropriate moment to bring together recent research on the Ottoman theater of the war based on the various traditions of this new military history established in the last 30 years and assess where we stand today in our knowledge of the World War and where we are headed. We therefore invite papers that develop existing approaches and questions to a further level. On this basis these papers will aid us in entering into a comparative, and where possible transnational, perspective of the war.

Archives and Collections at Work: Forged Scenes
Comment le faux opère-t-il dans la collection ? De nombreux travaux ont montré l'intimité qui s'est établie entre la forgerie et la critique : procédures d'authentification et fabrications de faux s'informent ainsi réciproquement dans une collaboration, fût-elle involontaire, entre les faussaires et les « authentificateurs »[1]. La fabrique du faux s'appuie également sur les critères d'authenticité élaborés par les collectionneurs, et plus encore, sur ce que Bessy et Chateauraynaud ont appelé « l'effet de collection ». Ces derniers soulignent ainsi à propos des collections d'art comment « les faussaires imaginent les manques, créent des variantes, produisent des périodes, des thèmes, des paysages ou des portraits qui n'ont jamais été peints par l'artiste original : ils retournent la collection contre elle-même en la faisant douter de sa complétude[2] ». En somme, le faux révèle ainsi à rebours les modalités opératoires du geste collectionneur : éclectisme, désir de complétude et mise en série relevant de l'arbitraire du collectionneur fondent aussi bien la collection que la possibilité de sa contrefaçon. -
