O encontro Em torno do fado: (Des)memórias e Reinvenções, uma iniciativa conjunta do Clube do Bacalhau, do Centro em Rede de Investigação em Antropologia (CRIA) e do Instituto de Ciências Sociais da universidade de Lisboa (ICS-ULisboa), decorrerá no Clube do Bacalhau (Travessa do Cotovelo, 12, 1200-132 Lisboa), na quarta-feira, 17 de maio, das 16h00 às 18h00.

Music and the Politics of Memory
This international conference intends to investigate how songs can constitute means to narrate historical events as well as social and political figures. This symposium intends to explore “unofficial” narratives that are clearly distinct from or opposing to political authority. This will allow us to investigate various relations to the past and how those may be performed, often through personal narratives constructing alternative histories. Another central issue is the content of the songs. In other words, what in the songs’ material conveys historical and political meaning? Nevertheless, it should not be studied apart from the music which conveys its social meaning. The choice of musical instruments, forms and aesthetics as well as musical borrowings or quotations highlights symbols that are superposed to and intertwined with textual content in a complex semiotic structure that needs to be unpacked.

International Conference on the values of tangible heritage
Tangible heritage is the support of some of the most relevant and perennial values of Mankind. It connects us with History, projects us to past environments and to lost cultural contexts, includes landmarks of our identity and constitutes a relevant economic asset. Therefore tangible heritage has intangible aspects inextricably associated to it and when tangible heritage is addressed, intangibility matters. Conservation of tangible heritage is a cultural act with the value approach as a leading concept. The protection statutes, the arguments used to sustain the protection policies, the management options and definition of priorities, the allocation of resources and the uses of heritage assets are intimately connected and dependent on values, bringing to focus the intangible side of their nature.

Partindo da apresentação e discussão de alguns dos resultados obtidos no âmbito do projecto de investigação PERIURBAN, centrado na discussão de cenários para a sustentabilidade dos territórios periurbanos na área metropolitana de Lisboa, pretende-se com este seminário discutir o potencial da utilização das metodologias e abordagens visuais na pesquisa em ciências sociais. São focados e discutidos os desafios e problemas concretos sentidos no processo de pesquisa, desenvolvido num contexto multidisciplinar, bem como as metodologias concretas aplicadas e os principais resultados obtidos, enquadrando esta experiência noutras que têm vindo a ser desenvolvidas no âmbito deste grupo de investigação.

Imaginar pertenças, repensar identidades
Cartografias, linguagens e narrativas sobre turismo genealógico em espaço Luso-Afro-Brasileiro
Por ano, milhares de pessoas viajam para conhecer ou reencontrar fisicamente lugares imaginados a partir de memórias, estórias e heranças familiares. Numa viagem rumo a destinos distantes que abandonaram, dos quais foram afastados à força, ou onde nunca sequer estiveram, (re)visitam como turistas países, cidades, vilas e bairros em busca de vestígios, nomes de ruas, apelidos, alcunhas, casas e objetos, mas também tradições, cheiros, cores, texturas e sabores. Inspirados por estas mobilidades sensoriais, convidamos a comunidade de investigadores em ciências sociais e humanas a discutir connosco, numa perspetiva pluri e transdisciplinar, o turismo genealógico e o seu papel na (des)construção identitária em espaço Luso-Afro-Brasileiro.

Knowledge for Open and Inclusive Societies
Inter-university Programme en Sociology
The vision of the PhD programme is framed in its title: “Sociology: knowledge for open and inclusive societies” (OpenSoc). We depart from a main strategic assumption: the relevance of the knowledge produced by social sciences (particularly sociology) for understanding and intervening in contemporary reflexive societies. Understanding implies the critique of common sense and taken for granted “prenotions”, as well as the construction of adequate theory and concepts that foster a coherent framework to interpret reality, which is then methodologically put to proof and validated in empirical settings. Fundamental knowledge is to be nurtured by itself; but it also enhances the capacity of translating theory into informed and targetted social action and intervention. Societies need sociology. And sociology feeds society.

Sensing the city: explorations in sensory ethnography
The conference aims to explore the relation between urban places and sensory experiences, drawing attention to the many dimensions of life in the city, mainly those that are rendered by the sense. We are guided by two main questions: What’s the role of the senses in framing, attributing meaning and changing collective and subjective experiences of city dwellers? And what is the relevant impact of sensory registration and analysis on the way of doing ethnography? Our objective is to gather researchers working on urban settings through ethnographic approaches. The senses will be considered both as an epistemological proposal – through which one sees the urban phenomena – and a methodological approach to the city.

Neste colóquio, Lucien Karpik (Valuing the Unique, 2007, 2011) e Ann Markusen (Creative Placemaking, 2010) dialogam sobre o valor dos mercados singulares, a criatividade, os públicos, mostrando como é que a arte, a cultura e o teatro em particular dão contribuições especiais para o desenvolvimento das economias locais, promovem a competitividade e geram emprego. Juntam-se a esta discussão os investigadores portugueses reconhecidos pelos seus trabalhos na área da cultura, arte, públicos, dinamização cultural, território, e apresentam-se novas linhas de investigação, plataformas colaborativas e de atuação para pesquisas futuras. O debate alarga-se aos decisores políticos, artistas, produtores culturais, jornalistas, todos os investigadores interessados e comunidade em geral. -

O objectivo deste colóquio é convocar investigadores de ciências sociais e humanas para olhar para Alves Redol - o homem, a obra e a sua produção -, bem como para as conjunturas nacionais e internacionais que se reflectem nos contextos tratados nos seus livros. Pretendemos que seja lido por antropólogos, historiadores, geógrafos, sociólogos, etnógrafos, folcloristas, etc. e que sejam as realidades, os processos e os agentes sociais que se tornem o fulcro da análise, numa ou em várias obras do autor. -

Report from the Pop Line: on the life and afterlife of popular
At the end of the first decade of the twenty-first century, popular culture finds itself at a crossroads: has the concept been drained of its meaning because of its overwhelming popularity? After the euphoria around the popular, what afterlife can be expected from it? Should we still be discussing the popular as opposed to high and folk culture? And where and how do pop art forms intersect with the current notion of the popular? This conference wishes to address the complexities surrounding the debate around the notions of both pop and the popular and discuss the possibilities of their afterlife. -

Por outro lado, não obstante a generalização que muitas vezes se estabelece da existência de um nexo causal entre media, (sobretudo pelo modo especulativo no tratamento das notícias), e a propagação do crime, raramente os estudos e a investigação científica conseguem provar esta correlação... -

Nos últimos anos têm-se multiplicado as investigações universitárias sobre a história do cinema português. Dada a inexistência de departamentos especializados em história do cinema, estes investigadores não têm muitas oportunidades para discutir o seu trabalho com outros colegas trabalhando sobre os mesmos temas.Este seminário de um dia juntará vários doutorandos e pós-doutorandos com investigações em curso sobre cinema português, proporcionando-lhes uma oportunidade para testar argumentos e debater as suas ideias. -
