The Illuminated Legal Manuscript: Production, Circulation and Use in Medieval Europe
International Workshop of the research team Ius Illuminatum
The workshop has the aim of giving an overview of the progress of research regarding illuminated legal manuscripts in Europe with the aim of carrying out a reflection on the methodological implications and on the practical and theoretical challenges that such research entails. During the Workshop, different case of study related to some regions of the European territory will be analyzed with a particular attention to what concerns the production, use and circulation of the different manuscripts examined. The Workshop also aims to question the potential offered by new technologies and the interdisciplinary approach in the study of the illuminated legal manuscript in order to overcome the limits and open up innovative and fruitful research paths.

The Center of History of the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon and the Institute of Contemporary History of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the NOVA University of Lisbon, are pleased to be hosting the II meeting of REPORT(H)A - Portuguese Network of Environmental History, in 2017 Spring. The cross cutting conference theme, Environmental Changes in Historical Perspective, is inscribed in transnational and transdisciplinary approaches, a challenge to the current academic research and debate in environmental sciences and humanities.

Territorialidades e historicidades
A relação entre pessoas e terra invoca historicidades que se sobrepõem de formas diversas. Juntando antropólogos a trabalhar sobre territorialidades em contextos indígenas no Brasil e antropólogos a trabalhar sobre territorialidades em espaços associados às margens da cidade de Lisboa, e colocando em debate etnografias sobre a terra como parte de processos de pertença com etnografias mais dirigidas a conflitos entre diferentes políticas públicas, o simpósio promete uma discussão que comprova a centralidade da questão da terra na conjuntura contemporânea.

Muitos deles, ou quase sempre, são arenas políticas onde se confrontam saberes competitivos, num mundo que não é só de indivíduos humanos, de vivos, do aqui e do agora.

Abril e Lisboa
No ano em que se comemoram os 40 anos da Revolução de Abril, o 3º Ciclo de Conferências LISBOA XXI sob o título “Abril e Lisboa”, inserido na unidade curricular “Lisboa: rupturas e continuidades”, leccionada e coordenada pela Professora Paula André no Mestrado Integrado em Arquitectura da Escola de Tecnologias e Arquitectura do ISCTE-IUL, tem como principal objectivo reflectir sobre as liberdades vivas e alertar para as liberdades ausentes. Para o realizar foram convidados especialistas das áreas da literatura e do jornalismo, da arquitectura e da antropologia. As apresentações serão realizadas por Armando Baptista-Bastos, Miguel Baptista-Bastos e Ricardo Campos.

Port Cities: Comparative Perspectives on Urban Stability and Public Safety
18th-21st centuries
The coming of globalization was centrally anchored in the increased mobility of goods, people and ideas. Port cities were thus transformed in crucial hubs in this mobility age. Because of the heterogeneous social and cultural landscape associated with commerce and transport, port cities became increasingly known as insecure places. Hence the perceptions resulting from and the strategies adopted to deal with the insecurity and the search for a new sense of urban stability were especially acute in port cities.

Environmental approaches of interactions between cities and forest supplies during the Middles Ages and the Early modern period. 12th International Conference on urban History, European Association for Urban History – Main Session M16
As places of consumption and production European medieval and early modern cities exerted a enormous pressure on neighbouring woodlands. Some historical studies have already discussed the way cities tried to impone their control on these lands emphasizing the diversity of needs which were fulfilled by forest exploitation (wood, timber, charcoal, grazing…). They often concluded that urban pressure resulted in an inexorable degradation of the forest cover. Indeed local woodlands and forests products could probably never meet the demand. In order to face shortage or, better, to prevent it, urban authorities attempted on one hand to extend their control on more and more distant forests and to attract interregional or « international » trade flows. On the other hand, they tried to regulate the local market so as to ensure access to several important needs regarding urban economy (charcoal, timber).

The conference aims at bringing together different perspectives on conflicts around urban planned developments, with a focus on the role planning practices may play both in defining/framing and in possibly solving/reframing conflicts.

O Simpósio internacional de arquitetura "Espaço e Ilusão. Teatros, arquitetura e património na Península Ibérica" pretende abrir um diálogo entre estudiosos e técnicos protagonistas de ambos os países, responsáveis pelo estudo desta temática e pelo projecto e execução de muitas das intervenções recentes em espaços teatrais. O impacto destas realizações na deslocação dos novos equipamentos dos centros (históricos) para novas centralidades comerciais, a recuperação de teatros e auditórios como factores de redefinição do tecido urbano, a importância de novas linguagens e de formas de interacção do público com os espaços, a influência das novas tecnologias nas soluções arquitetónicas e cenográficas, são alguns dos temas a abordar no Simpósio.

O Portugal atlântico, europeu e lusófono: uma nação de portas abertas
A presença dos Portugueses no mundo não é mais do que um reflexo de uma certa curiosidade tipicamente portuguesa, misturada com um empreendedorismo aventureiro, uma vontade inata de procurar descobrir onde nos leva o caminho. E, historicamente, o caminho levou-nos para todos os cantos do globo, desde o Oceano Atlântico e Mar Mediterrâneo ao Oceano Índico, do Mar do Sul da China até ao Oceano Pacífico. Estas extensas viagens deram a oportunidade aos Portugueses de interagirem com culturas muito diferente. Mas deram-lhe também uma capacidade incomum para abrir as suas portas a outras culturas, outras formas de viver, de fazer negócios, de comunicar e de construir pontes e caminhos.

A relação entre os media e o império português é o tema principal da conferência internacional que se realizará a 1 e 2 de Novembro de 2013 em Lisboa. A conferência tem uma base interdisciplinar, acolhendo estudos de jornalismo, comunicação, história, literatura, sociologia, geografia, antropologia e história da arte, entre outros domínios dos estudos humanísticos e das ciências sociais, que contribuam para a melhor compreensão das relações entre os media e a política imperial de Portugal desde o século XVIII até finais da década de 1970. -

Neste colóquio internacional procura-se reunir propostas que possam contribuir para a análise das estratégias e das práticas de diferentes actores que operam nas fronteiras: os que favorecem as mobilidades transnacionais (como passadores ou transportadores); os que as vigiam (as autoridades fronteiriças e policiais). Neste colóquio, Lucien Karpik (Valuing the Unique, 2007, 2011) e Ann Markusen (Creative Placemaking, 2010) dialogam sobre o valor dos mercados singulares, a criatividade, os públicos, mostrando como é que a arte, a cultura e o teatro em particular dão contribuições especiais para o desenvolvimento das economias locais, promovem a competitividade e geram emprego. Juntam-se a esta discussão os investigadores portugueses reconhecidos pelos seus trabalhos na área da cultura, arte, públicos, dinamização cultural, território, e apresentam-se novas linhas de investigação, plataformas colaborativas e de atuação para pesquisas futuras. O debate alarga-se aos decisores políticos, artistas, produtores culturais, jornalistas, todos os investigadores interessados e comunidade em geral.
