Digital Humanities Master Class
Cette master class en humanités numériques se tiendra du 19 au 25 avril 2020 au Moulin d’Andé (Normandie). Plusieurs axes sont proposés : données lexicales, édition numérique scientifique (en particulier d’égo-documents) et données d’autorité. Une partie des cours sera consacrée à la maîtrise de l’outillage TEI dans l’ensemble de ces domaines, mais la master class ne se limitera pas à cela. L’ensemble des étapes du workflow d’un projet en humanités numériques sera abordé, de la constitution du corpus jusqu’à la valorisation des résultats. La langue principale de travail est l’anglais. La master class est co-organisée par DARIAH-EU, Inria, l’Institut historique Allemand et Le Mans Université.

Pathos. Forms and fortunes of literary emotions
The goal of this summer school is to explore the role of emotions in literature, namely with respect to the excess of pathos in different forms and times. Pathos has been a fundamental aspect of literature in every epoch. Great poetry has always foregrounded its ability to represent feelings, evoke intense and vivid moods, and elicit readers’ emotions and empathy. On the other hand, the novel – the genre dominating literary modernity – has been o!en accused of indulging in sentimental excess, giving too much space to melodramatic expression. Indeed, in Western cultures, there is a widespread suspicion towards pathos, which has o!en been identified as a shortcoming of literature. Great books – according to a common implicit assumption – can prompt reflection and laughter, but not tears: pathos only concerns lowbrow production. The summer school is an opportunity to engage in a reflection on issues related to pathos in literature in the last few centuries. Different perspectives will be taken into account: specific literary works, reader response theory, cognitive narratology, transmedia adaptation, and publishing history.

La rencontre a pour but un questionnement sur les liens entre problématiques politiques et religieuses d'un côté, et la production littéraire et artistique de l'autre, dans l'Europe de la Renaissance, avec une attention particulière pour notamment l‘Italie, la France et l’Espagne. La réception de ces notions dans l'historiographie et la critique littéraire, ainsi que dans l'imaginaire de la modernité sera au centre de la réflexion. Un volet important de cette manifestation consistera en un dialogue ouvert sur la formation des élites dirigeantes européennes au début de la modernité et le rôle, dans ce cadre, des noblesses et des cours.

Cette université d'été propose d’aborder l’histoire contemporaine des rapports entre musée et démocratie au cours du XXe et au début du XXIe siècle dans l’Europe du Sud, en privilégiant l’analyse des institutions muséales en lien avec le régime de souveraineté populaire dont elles tirent leur origine et leur justification, tout en prenant en compte la diversité de ces imaginaires et des systèmes démocratiques, dans une perspective transnationale.

Le document est défini comme une information portée sur un support. Sous forme de mots, de sons, d’images, l’information doit être structurée et intelligible. C’est de cette définition juridique des technologies de l’information (art. 3 de la LCCJTI de 2001), que nous souhaitons partir afin d’interroger les gestes qui sont posés sur les documents visuels aussi bien dans le temps de leur conservation que de leurs usages créatifs. C’est donc moins le documentaire (au sens d’un genre photographique et cinématographique) que nous aborderons, que l’action de travailler aujourd’hui avec des documents.

The Audiovisuals and internet archives: Histories of healthy bodies in the 21st century spring school invites young researchers to engage in four days of intensive discussion and hands-on activities on the relation between the history of the healthy body, body politics, and the Internet at the turn of the twenty-first century (roughly 1990s-2010). The spring school will take a transnational perspective and focus on developments in Germany, France and Great Britain. In building the historical foundation of the Internet era in the BodyCapital perspective, we will encounter new modes of representations and practices of the body that the Internet favored: webcam uses, first artist creations, reuse of traditional contents (photographs and films), amongst others.

Mass Culture : New Approaches, New Issues (19th and 20th centuries)
After the 2016 edition, devoted to the links between media and politics from the French Revolution to today, the theme proposed this year is « Mass Culture: new approaches, new issues (19th and 20th centuries)”. Comparative and transnational approaches to archives and sources will allow us to investigate in new and innovative ways the idea of mass culture as an object of historical study. The school’s international dimension will encourage discussion between different historiographical traditions in the field, and comparisons among many historical contexts and regions. Methodological inquiries will be especially encouraged, in order to evaluate the contributions which, for example, the digital humanities or interdisciplinary approaches may offer.

L'Institut d’histoire du livre (IHL) regroupe plusieurs institutions fortement impliquées dans le domaine du livre et du patrimoine graphique: la Bibliothèque municipale de Lyon (BmL), le musée de l’imprimerie et de la communication graphique, l’École nationale supérieure des sciences de l’information et des bibliothèques (Enssib), l’Ecole normale supérieure de Lyon (ENS de Lyon) et l’École nationale des chartes à Paris (ENC). L'IHL organise chaque année à Lyon une école d'été dont l'objectif est de promouvoir la diffusion des savoirs spécifiques au monde du patrimoine écrit et imprimé. Pour la 15e édition de son École, l’IHL offrira trois cours en parallèle animés par Dominique Varry, Claudio Galleri avec Eléonore Litim et Neil Harris avec Ilaria Pastrolin.

Initiative interdisciplinaire, l’université d'été de la Bibliothèque Kandinsky réunit de jeunes chercheur·e·s : historiens et historiens de l’art, anthropologues et sociologues, artistes, critiques, commissaires d’expositions, qui partagent un travail collectif sur les sources documentaires.

Scaling. What happens when we scale things up or down?
Princeton-Weimar Summer School for Media Studies 2018
The 2018 session will be devoted to the investigation of scale and scaling as operative concepts for the analysis of media. What happens when we scale? Does anything really change? Can scaling ever impact the inner blueprint of an object? Are there laws of scaling? Or does scaling resist any attempt at calculability, such that, to investigate it, we can only ever look at individual events of scaling? As a media practice, scaling is widely used. But, in contrast to the ubiquity of operations, scaling is hardly ever viewed on its own terms as a basic concept of media analysis. The Princeton-Weimar Summer School for Media Studies 2018 will attempt to map out approaches to scaling as a basic media-analytical tool.

This training school provides participants with insights into the theories and practices of stimulating impact creation from social sciences and humanities research. It will focuses on three specific dimensions. Firstly, creating a conceptual understanding on the specificities of social sciences and humanities (SSH) impact and non-linear impact models. Secondly, alternative appropriate policy frameworks for maximising SSH impact. Finally, we will explore ways of supporting scholarly practices to optimise the creation of impact through SSH research, and capturing this with evaluation systems.

Cette master class franco-allemande en humanités numériques vise à rassembler huit jeunes chercheurs allemands et huit jeunes chercheurs français participant à ou porteurs de projets en humanités numériques et à leur offrir un forum où échanger de manière fructueuse pour la poursuite de leur recherche, autour de la question de la gestion des données de la recherche. Chacun(e) doit être prêt à présenter son projet (et les données afférentes sous un format ouvert) et à le mettre en dialogue avec ceux des autres particpant(e)s dans un type de rencontre proche d’un THATCamp, c’est-à-dire sans enseignement magistral ni exposé frontal.

DARIAH Summer school
This summer school for advanced humanities students, scholars, archivists and librarians is devoted to the reflection on the nature and the future of digital datasets in Humanities. The first day will introduce the problems and goals of the summer school, with an plenary lecture on the theoretical basis of digital documents and a historical overview of the information and communication problems in Early Modern France. Subsequent days will alternate presentations in the morning with practical workshops in the afternoons. Participants will learn how to process source documents in a digital environment using appropriate tools. A variety of sample source documents, selected from local libraries and archives collections and digitized in advance, will be available as supporting materials for the workshops.
