L’acculturation du droit français dans les anciennes colonies d’Amérique (Québec, Haïti, Louisiane)
L’existence de codes civils, et parfois de traditions civilistes, dans les sociétés postcoloniales en terres d’Amérique, est plus que symbolique sur les plans politique, culturel et même linguistique. La fin du XVIIIe siècle au Québec, et le début du XIXe siècle en Haïti et en Louisiane, marquent une période de flottement entre, d’une part, la tradition civiliste (Québec) ou la codification (Haïti, Louisiane) et, d’autre part, l’influence du droit de common law anglais (Québec) ou américain (Louisiane). Le droit civil français est globalement envisagé de manière favorable pour régir la société dans les anciennes colonies d’outre-Atlantique. C’est aussi, dans une certaine mesure, le droit public français qui sert de modèle (à travers l’adoption de différentes constitutions en Haïti) ou d’inspiration sur afin d’éclairer des questions précises (par exemple, la distinction entre citoyenneté et nationalité en Louisiane et en Haïti).

Coexistences, contrasts, contradictions
It seems urgent to reflect on how democracies have responded to the presence of extreme right-wing movements, both in terms of political practices and rhetoric. Have democracies actively opposed the extreme right, or have they opted for strategies of containment and coexistence? Equally important is to examine the perspective of the extreme right: how has it interpreted and narrated the (supposed) coexistence with the democratic system? How has it dealt with the legacy of fascism and to what extent has it adapted to the culture of democracy?

À quelques mois seulement de la prochaine élection présidentielle américaine et à moins d’un an de de l’investiture du 47e Président des États‑Unis, une figure relativement méconnue du paysage politique américain mérite une attention toute particulière : le Vice‑Président des États‑Unis. L’étude du système politique des États‑Unis révèle un paradoxe saisissant : le Vice‑Président occupe une position singulière dans les institutions de ce pays, étant à la fois une figure peu connue et pourtant très proche de la plus haute fonction, à savoir la Présidence. Alors que les projecteurs du monde entier sont actuellement braqués vers le prochain locataire de la Maison Blanche, les organisateurs de ce colloque ont choisi de porter leur attention sur l’institution quelque peu délaissée du Vice‑Président des États‑Unis.

Federalism Conference 2022
The Federalism conference is an international and hybrid conference that seeks to explore one the one hand, normative and historical theories of federalism and, on the other hand, investigate federal practices based primarily on case studies from Asia. With many countries opting for a federal structure of the government, federalism has now become a popular research topic among political scientists and constitutional scholars, leading to the burgeoning of centers and research projects at the international level. Federal ideas and the reality of existing federal states cannot be sharply divided. A comprehensive analysis of institutional philosophical roots can thus help us to further a comprehensive understanding of federal institutions as well as design appropriate analytical tools for investigating elements of multilevel governance systems.

Even as the world shut down in 2020 from covid-19, ESG (Environmental Social and Governance) investing and principles accelerated their domination of the operation of and investment in the private sector. These accelerating trends came despite initial fears that the COVID crisis would slow consideration of ESG. In fact, ESG investments outperformed the broader market, and ESG related projects can command a premium in investment and lender interest. Historic fossil fuel emitters are not exempt. In a two month span in early 2021, several large legacy oil companies indicated an intent to become carbon neutral and to accelerate diversification into renewable energies.

Online Course on the US Original Constitution and its Reception in Brazil
In times of Covid19, the Federal University of Paraiba, UFPB, opens this course to the global audience. Students from the world will have the opportunity to discuss the USA and Brazil's constitutional history from the Founding Era to the end of the nineteenth century with an instructor and Brazilian students of its Graduate Program in Law. The UFPB offers these lectures through the Google Meet platform with a limited number of spots for better development of the studies and discussions amongst participants. Issues, effects and perspectives
En France, l'essor du droit de la non-discrimination s'est accompagné d'une multiplication des critères de discrimination. Ainsi, alors que le droit dérivé de l'Union européenne comprend sept critères visés par les directives relatives à la lutte contre les discriminations, le droit interne, qui couvre les mêmes champs, en comprend désormais plus de vingt-cinq. Ce phénomène soulève de nombreuses questions, jusqu'à lors peu abordées, qui nécessitent aussi bien un regard rétrospectif sur les dynamiques à l'œuvre dans la multiplication des critères qu'un examen de leur opérationnalité tant en droit que dans le champ social. Se pose par ailleurs la question des combinaisons multiples entre ces critères, notamment à travers la notion d'intersectionnalité. Ce sont ces enjeux que ce colloque pluridisciplinaire (droit, sociologie, science politique, etc.) et comparatiste (Europe, États-Unis) abordera.

Criminal Law and Emotions in European Legal Cultures
From the 16th Century to the Present
This two-day conference seeks to historicize the relationship between law and emotions, focusing on the period from the sixteenth century to the present. It aims to ask how legal definitions, categorizations and judgments were influenced by, and themselves influenced, moral and social codes; religious and ideological norms; scientific and medical expertise; and perceptions of the body, gender, age, social status. By examining the period between the sixteenth century and the present day, this conference also seeks to challenge and problematize the demarcation between the early modern and the modern period, looking at patterns and continuities, as well as points of fissure and change, in the relationship between law and emotions.

Le cycle de colloques « Philosopher avec les séries télévisées » se propose d’analyser chaque année une série télévisée déterminée, sur un mode à la fois monographique et interdisciplinaire. Pour 2013, renouant avec les thématiques ouvertes en 2011 avec le colloque consacré à la série 24h chrono, nous proposons de concentrer notre attention sur À la Maison Blanche (The West Wing), série américaine en sept saisons créée par Aaron Sorkin et initialement diffusée de 1999 à 2006. Mettant en scène de façon à la fois uchronique et réaliste sept ans de vie « à la Maison Blanche », et plus précisément dans « l’aile ouest » (« The West Wing ») qui abrite les bureaux de la Présidence américaine, la série suit les deux mandats successifs du président démocrate Josiah Bartlet (Martin Sheen) et de son équipe.
