Conference, symposium - Political studies
The Global Race project (2016-2020) investigates the reconfigurations of the race concept since 1945 in the scientific realm, state policies, and social movements. The three-day final conference of the project will gather French and international scholars who will examine various theories and practices regarding the use of racial and ethnic categories and will explore how controversies around race have unfolded in Europe and the Americas.

En dépit de son utilisation et de son invocation fréquentes, il n’y a pas d’accord sur ce que désigne le racisme. Ses usages sont variés et ont changé au cours du temps. Ce colloque, organisé dans le cadre de l'ANR "Global Race", entend questionner le terme même de « racisme » et revenir sur ses usages pluriels par les acteurs, les institutions et les chercheurs. Qu’a-t-on à l’esprit lorsqu’on parle de « racisme » et que l’on désigne une situation, un comportement ou un système comme « racistes » ? Quels sont les conflits d’interprétation, les malentendus, les dits et les non-dits que le terme génère ? Quelles possibilités d’action ouvre-t-il et quelles portes referme-t-il ? Quels sont les usages scientifiques faits de la notion de racisme et quelles sont les modalités d’opérationnalisation de ce concept pour les sciences humaines et sociales ? Pendant deux jours les intervenant.e.s, issu.e.s de toutes les disciplines en sciences humaines et sociales reviendront sur ces questions.

Legal data mining, machine learning and visualization
The aim of the conference is to structure a conversation on both the fundamental and practical issues on legal data mining and machine learning between scientists and professionals from artificial Intelligence, data science, law, and logic. The Legal Data Mining, Machine Learning and Visualization conference will explore the specific technical challenges from data mining and machine learning technique addressing together practical and legal theoretical issues. It is an opportunity for computer scientists to showcase and explore in conversation with lawyers further developments in AI and data-mining applied to the legal domains. Legal academics specializing in the interface of law and AI are given the opportunity to articulate the challenges of automated functions in law including in natural language processing applied to law, information extraction from legal databases and texts and data mining applied for legal analytics.

(Re)Making and regulating life and livelihoods across borders: transnational bioeconomy, law, and governance
Biotechnological industry, researchers, and governments have entered a new constellation, regime, and accelerated phase, called the Bioeconomy. This agenda - which exists in the form of policy, funding programs, white papers, etc. - reimagines how we live, how we live together with other kinds of life, and, directly, these other kinds of life at the molar and molecular level. In other words: All kinds of livelihoods in their social, economic, and ethical relations are put in motion. This agenda is, geopolitically, not restricted to Global North nor contained by any national or international jurisdiction and governance.

Contemporary legal apprehension of the human body
La génétique, les neurosciences, l’épigénétique, les nanotechnologies, l’imagerie médicale, l’image 3D, le numérique, Big Data, l’environnement sont autant de domaines d’innovations, susceptibles de transformer l’appréhension du corps de l’homme dans toute sa singularité, sa spécificité et son humanité. La science juridique doit, plus que jamais, réfléchir, adapter et innover en parallèle des changements sans cesse croissants et rapides des domaines scientifiques, technologiques et médicaux. Le colloque portant sur « le devenir juridique du corps humain » donnera l’opportunité d’échanger et de réfléchir sur l’appréhension et l’évolution de la notion du corps humain en France et en Chine. Cette réflexion est d’autant plus fondamentale et nécessaire qu’il en va de l’humanité, de la primauté et de la dignité de la personne dont le corps est partie intégrante.

Electronic tagging - the current state of affairs and knowledge on the issue
État des lieux, état des savoirs
Ce colloque international et interdisciplinaire propose de dresser un état des lieux/état des savoirs sur le placement sous surveillance électronique, fixe ou mobile, communément connu sous le nom de bracelet électronique. Dans un colloque tenu à Fribourg en 2004, les organisateurs se demandaient si le bracelet électronique avait un avenir en Europe. Dix ans plus tard, il est certes évident que le bracelet électronique s’est développé, qu’il a intégré de nouvelles possibilités technologiques (incluant en particulier la technologie du GPS), qu’il a gagné du terrain tant en Europe que dans d’autres régions du monde, par exemple en Asie.
