À partir d’un corpus de livres de fête conservés dans les collections Jacques Doucet de la bibliothèque de l’Institut national d’histoire de l’art (mais qui ne doit pas s’y limiter), ces journées d’études chercheront à saisir les enjeux de la notation du ballet équestre dans les premières décennies du XVIIe siècle et ses prolongements jusqu’à la fin du siècle suivant, dans une relation à l’histoire de la danse, mais aussi à l’histoire des sciences et à l’histoire politique. Articulant représentations figurées des cavaliers et des motifs dessinés par leurs déplacements, et représentations abstraites (lignes, points, schémas) déployés sur la page, ces planches présentent un réel intérêt pour la recherche sur les formes notationnelles de la danse.

The Multidisciplinary Grid 2020 Conference
The conference is aimed at examining the ‘grid’ as a cross-disciplinary theme with a multiplicity of expressions in terms of definitions, concepts, perceptions, representations, and histories. The ‘grid’ has played a significant role in shaping the spatial imaginaries of a wide range of fields: from Hippodamus of Miletus to the Cartesian revolution in mathematics, from the visual arts to archaeology to 'smart cities' and artificial intelligence. As the 'grid' has become an all-encompassing term, signifying a vast array of infrastructural and communication networks through which contemporary life is mediated and controlled, it is commonly viewed as a quintessential symbol of modernity. The conference strives to explore a new horizon of relationships and fusion of the ‘grids’ in these areas as manifested between humans, between machines, and between humans and machines ‒ bridging philosophical, cultural, pedagogical, technical and ethical issues.

What do the images of artificial intelligence do? Images, fictions and representations
Imaginaires, fictions et représentations
Cette dernière décennie a vu de nombreuses avancées technologiques remettre sur le devant des scènes scientifique et médiatique le terme d’intelligence artificielle. Cette journée sera l'occasion d'interroger les multiples images et représentations de l'intelligence artificielle, selon trois axes : la généalogie des représentations de l'intelligence artificielle, les représentations de l'intelligence artificielle comme analogies, métaphores ou figures de l'altérité et les représentations de l'intelligence artificielle comme formes prospectives ou critiques. La réflexion portera sur ce que font les représentations de l'intelligence artificielle, sur la manière dont elles produisent des imaginaires et anticipent des discussions sur les finalités de nos environnements techniques, sur la socialisation des machines, sur les contradictions sociales dont la technologie n'est bien souvent qu'une expression sublimée.

Au moment où se développe une édition électronique critique de l'Encyclopédie de Diderot et D'Alembert (l'ENCCRE), ce colloque international doit permettre de dresser un point d’étape sur les recherches spécifiquement dédiées aux planches de la grande entreprise des Lumières — qui a su donner une importance nouvelle à l'image dans la transmission des connaissances.

Bodies in the city: norms and disparities in the 19th century
Arts et savoirs journal on OpenEdition
La recherche en littérature et en sciences humaines – les études dixneuviémistes en particulier – continuent de témoigner régulièrement de l'engouement suscité par la question de la représentation des corps, propice à une multiplicité d'approches et de croisements disciplinaires, qu'ont nourris en particulier les travaux d'Alain Corbin et Georges Vigarello. Les mutations que connaît l'espace urbain au XIXe siècle imposent aux corps de nouvelles normes, dont peuvent faire état le roman réaliste, la littérature dite panoramique ou encore la presse, et définissent dans le même temps de nouvelles marginalités. Dans un contexte qui se caractérise par un renouvellement des méthodes d’observation scientifique, mais aussi par des réaménagements urbains et l'inauguration de nouveaux lieux dans la ville, il s’agira d’interroger la scientificité du regard que porte le XIXe siècle sur les corps voués à occuper cet espace.

Following Broadcasting health and disease in 2017 and Tele(visualing) Health 2018, this third conference on medical television in the framework of the ERC funded BodyCapital project and in a joint venture with the Science Museum London intends to locate medical television more precisely – it intends to engage (medical) TV history with recent questions concerning the relevance of space within and beyond national borders.

Transcendental spectator experience
Que dire des œuvres qui radicalisent l’idéalité du point de vue jusqu’à en faire une impossibilité empirique ? La perspective de la Renaissance permet des points de vue tellement surplombants que l’être humain ne peut les atteindre. Toutefois, ce qu’on a pu appeler la « perspective inversée », et plus généralement l’esthétique iconique, appellent aussi un point de vue bien différent du point de vue empirique, peut-être un point de vue eschatologique, depuis la fin des temps. Dans un autre registre, les nouvelles techniques numériques génératives permettent à présent d’engendrer des œuvres d’une durée infinie. Il n’est résolument pas possible de vivre une expérience spectatorielle de ces œuvres sans, à un moment, ne serait-ce que supposer une dimension transcendantale de sa propre subjectivité. La question est de savoir comment décrire ces expériences paradoxales, à la lisière de l’empirie et du transcendantal justement : l’expérience d’échapper à son propre point de vue, d’avoir à prendre un point de vue – dicté par l’œuvre – dont le spectateur réel est par principe incapable.

Digital and heritage platforms: what relationship for research and mediation?
Dans le domaine de l’étude, de la conservation et de la mise en valeur du/des patrimoine(s) la recherche actuelle s’est orientée, depuis plusieurs années, sur la création et le développement de trois types principaux de plateformes numériques associant, gérant et diffusant ou partageant différentes catégories d’informations issues de la numérisation des patrimoines (archives, textes, documents graphiques, images 2D, modèles 3D, vidéogrammes, etc.) : * Plateformes dévolues à la définition d’une sémantique commune pour le patrimoine au travers d’outils web.* Plateformes collaboratives d’annotation sémantique et de gestion du patrimoine en ligne.* Plateformes de diffusion et de partage d’informations sur le patrimoine et lenumérique. Cependant, l’essor formidable de ces types d’outils numériques, qui enthousiasment aussi bien les chercheurs en SHS et en sciences appliquées que le grand public, soulève des questions à la fois éthique et technique...

Scientific images / artistic images - methodological intersections
À la question de ce que l’histoire de l’art offre à l’analyse des images non artistiques, s’en ajoute alors une autre : quel apport (quelles stratégies, quelles notions) peuvent donner les méthodes scientifiques d’analyse d’images à l’histoire de l’art ? Est-ce que – juste pour donner deux exemples – la réduction du bruit ou l’emploi des fausses couleurs en astronomie peuvent enrichir la boîte à outils de l’historien de l’art ? Ces deux questions méthodologiques se croisent nécessairement sur le plan épistémologique : quel type de connaissance produisent les images ? Les images artistiques ainsi que les images scientifiques visent-elles l’objectivité ? Et encore, pour évoquer Daston et Galison, une histoire en images de l’objectivité peut-elle reconstruire une histoire des types de vision ?

Une journée d'études consacrée aux relations entre le transhumanisme et la science-fiction, dans une approche pluridisciplinaire (philosophie, histoire, littérature, cinéma). Cette journée s'inscrivant dans le off du festival international « Séries Mania » (Lille, 22 au 20 mars 2019), l'après-midi est consacrée aux thématiques transhumanistes dans les séries télévisées.

Tele(visualising) health: TV, public health, its enthusiasts and its publics
Televisions began to appear in the homes of large numbers of the public in Europe and North America after World War II. This coincided with a period in which ideas about the public’s health, the problems that it faced and the solutions that could be offered, were changing. The threat posed by infectious diseases was receding, to be replaced by chronic conditions linked to lifestyle and individual behaviour. Public health professionals were enthusiastic about how this new technology. TV offered a way to reach large numbers of people with public health messages; it symbolised the post war optimism about new directions in public health. But it could also act as a contributory factor to those new public health problems.

Tele(visualising) health: TV, public health, its enthusiasts and its publics
The conference aims to bring together scholars from different fields (such as, but not limited to, history, history of science, history of medicine, communication, media and film studies, television studies) working on the history of television in Great Britain, France and Germany (West and East) (the focus of the ERC BodyCapital project), but also other European countries, North and South America, Russia, Asia or other countries and areas. Papers might focus on one national, regional or even local framework. Considering the history of health-related (audio-) visuals as a history of transfer, as entangled history or with a comparative perspective are welcome. The organizers welcome contributions with a strong historical impetus from all social and cultural sciences.

Comme bien des disciplines des sciences humaines, l’histoire de l’art se tient encore relativement à l’écart du numérique, et en particulier de la science ouverte. Le mouvement de libération des collections patrimoniales va cependant croissant et la place centrale des images dans la pratique des historiens d’art induit en tout état de cause l’acquisition et le traitement de données visuelles, nombreuses ou pas, numériquement natives ou pas, selon des formes de mise en ordre plus ou moins raisonnées et informées des possibilités, comme des contraintes, du numérique.

Excess? Images of body, health, morality and emotions across the media
A central goal of the workshop is to open up an international exchange and to connect perspectives from the history of science, the history of emotions, the history of the body and media history in order to shed new light on a history of health as a cultural history. The event is part of the research project “The Healthy Self as Body Capital: Individuals, Market-Based Societies, and Body Politics in Visual Twentieth Century Europe” funded by the European Research Council under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (Advanced Grant agreement No 694817) led by Christian Bonah (University of Strasbourg) and Anja Laukötter (Max Planck Institute for Human Development, Berlin).

Bodies, markets and television, 1950s-1980s
In the television age, health and the body have been broadcasted in many ways: in short health education films, school television, professional training materials, TV ads, documentaries, reality TV shows and news, as well as stand-alone videos distributed to specific audiences. This three-day conference proposes an exploration of how television formats have influenced and staged bodies, health and healthy practices from local, regional, national and international perspectives, and how these TV programmes spread the conviction that viewers could and should invest in their health and shape their own body.

RE: TRACE - the 7th International conference on the histories of media art, science and technology will be hosted by the department for image science and held at Danube University Krems, Göttweig Abbey and the Austrian Academy of Sciences, Vienna. More than a decade after the first conference founded the field now recognized worldwide as a significant historical inquiry at the intersection of art, science, and technology, media art histories is now firmly established as a dynamic area of study guided by changing media and research priorities, drawing a growing community of scholars, artists and artist-researchers.
