  Narrative forms and co-production in Arab cinemas

  Norms, constraints, and margins of freedom

  Film industry in the Arab world remains generally underdeveloped. Arab countries still depend on international film support funds, mainly European. This puts Arab producers, scriptwriters and filmmakers in a subaltern position in relation to European producers and funders, whose expectations in terms of content as well as narrative and aesthetic forms end up strongly impacting the film creation process. On the other hand, margins of freedom and resistance can be created within this system. This edition of Regards aims at addressing the complex relation between Arab cinemas and international film support funds.

  Heritage and Ruptures

  10th Annual and International Colloquium of the Society of Activities and Research on the Indian World

  In the postcolonial theoretical framework, the study of heritage and ruptures is a rather familiar paradigm. But it is not a depleted paradigm. Given the millennial history of the Indian subcontinent and the plurality of its culture, the way its languages, literatures and arts appropriate the past, grasp the present and envisage the future remains a relevant object for inquiry. From the crossroads of diachronicity and synchronicity, tradition and modernity, singularity and solidarity, here and elsewhere, repetition and reinvention, the 10^th annual SARI conference to be held on the 28^th and 29^th May 2015 at the Université Paris Ouest Nanterre la Défense and on the 30^th May 2015 at the université Paris 13, Sorbonne Paris Cité, will be devoted to the exploration of this topic from an inter and pluridisciplinary perspective.

  An inventory

  Dans le cadre de la première édition du Festival du dilm d’Asie du Sud transgressif (FFAST), l’équipe du Festival propose le mercredi 16 janvier 2013 à l'Inalco, une journée de conférences en compagnie d’universitaires européens et sud-asiatiques. Au programme, table-rondes, conférences et projections pour discuter des grands défis contemporains des arts visuels du sous-continent indien face à l’hégémonie de l’industrie de Mumbai. Du cinéma populaire, à la vidéo expérimentale, en passant par le film indépendant, une étude esthétique et anthropologique soulignera leurs différences : comment est-ce que ces différents cinémas filment la sexualité ? Quels sont les codes, artistiques, économiques, symboliques, de Bollywood ? Quelles sont les conditions de financement et de diffusion ? Quelle place pour le film d’art et la vidéo expérimentale dans ce marché en Asie du Sud et en Europe ? Face à une scène cinématographique en pleine mutation, cette journée de rencontres adressera directement les enjeux et défis pour les réalisateurs, producteurs, curateurs et institutionnels.
