  Women and Gender in the Bible and the Biblical World (II)

  Open Theology invites submissions for the topical issue “Women and Gender in the Bible and the Biblical World II”, edited by Zanne Domoney-Lyttle and Sarah Nicholson. This special issue aims to explore, interrogate and reflect on the ways in which women are understood, contextualised and represented in the text of the Bible that has developed, in various ways, a foundational significance for Western culture.

  Esther (Etty) Hillesum writings are a crucial historical document, as they report on the extreme evil of racial persecutions and life in lagers. They are a reflection on the value and the meaning of life, love and death. The International Conference “Etty Hillesum. Cento anni dopo (1914-2014)” (December 9-10, 2014, at Ca' Foscari University in Venice, Italy) aims to assess the works of this important witness from the 20th century.

  Issues in the thinking of Edith Stein, co-patron of Europe, in culture and contemporary civilisation?

  Edith Stein study day

  Cette journée d'étude veut donner l'occasion de se plonger dans la pensée d'Édith Stein, co-patronne de l'Europe, en lien avec certains questionnements contemporains. La matinée sera consacrée à la réponse anthropologique esquissée par Édith Stein dans son cours sur « La personne humaine » face à l'idéologie nazie et face à  toute idéologie (Mgr Pierre d'Ornellas). Suivra une présentation de ses réflexions sur la femme au regard de la théorie du genre (Mme Hanna-Barbara Gerl-Falkovitz). L'après-midi abordera deux questions théologiques : la première touche à la parenté selon la chair des juifs avec leur messie vécue par Édith Stein et à ses conséquences théologiques pour l'Église (Antoine Levy). La seconde s'attachera à  décrypter la lecture contemporaine de Thérèse d'Avila faite par Édith Stein (Christophe Betschart).

  Religious Norms challenged by changes to gender relations, 19th-21st centuries

  Malgré l’importance reconnue des religions pour les questions de genre et la centralité du genre au sein des univers religieux, le champ de recherche qui croise Genre, religions et sociétés est encore largement à explorer. Pour confronter les recherches en cours et promouvoir cette problématique, le GSRL (Groupe sociétés religions laïcités EPHE / CNRS) propose d’aborder la question des normes religieuses à l’épreuve des mutations de genre.
