  Borders in the Americas – Integration, Security and Migrations

  In the aftermath of the collapse of the Soviet Union, many analysts and experts argued that the world had reached the “end of history” [Fukuyama, 1992] and that regional and local organizations and free trade agreements (among which the European Union appeared to be a model of integration) signaled the emergence of a world without borders. Yet, thirty years later, the reality seems to be altogether different. Today, it is clear that “borders are back”. Whether these borders are challenged, violated, transcended, consolidated, or integrated, they remain necessarily at the heart of the political debate. This symposium will focus on a specific geographic area: the Americas.

  Canadian Studies Review n°78 (June 2015)

  This special issue of Etudes Canadiennes/Canadian Studies intends to explore what’s new in Canada, nine years after the coming to power of the Conservatives, four years after Stephen Harper won the election that gave him a majority government, and at a time when Canada is getting ready for the next federal election. While the contributions are expected to focus on the Conservative initiatives to shape this new Canada, they will also be encouraged to compare them with other societal and global factors that may contribute to a changing Canada.

  Les 1 et 2 avril 2014 le Centre d'étude du fait religieux contemporain organise un grand colloque en partenariat avec l'Institut Randstad et avec le soutien du Conseil régional d'Île-de-France. La laïcité en France fait l'objet d'un consensus massif : des chiffres récents et surprenants seront présentés lors du colloque La laïcité en pratique. Mais comment se vit, dans les faits, cette recherche d'équilibre entre l'État, les religions et la société ? Non seulement en France, mais dans les pays comparables ? C'est ce que nous vous proposons de découvrir en quatre sessions : politique, société, international et entreprise. Les deux journées de conférences et de tables rondes seront animées par les meilleurs spécialistes issus de l'administration, de la politique, du monde de l'entreprise et de la recherche.

  Ce colloque se propose d’étudier l’état actuel, des années 1970 à nos jours, des questionnements sur l’américanité, saisie dans un sens à la fois local, national et transcontinental. Le continent américain a été et reste un pôle attractif pour des populations/des individus en quête d’un monde nouveau et meilleur, qu’il a acceptés et refoulés tout au long de son histoire. Comment l’américanité, réelle ou mythique, accueillante ou exclusive, opère-t-elle en tant que critère d’une recherche identitaire dans la réélaboration constante et l’évolution des visions culturelles de l’Amérique du nord et de l’Amérique latine ?
