Overstepping the mark

Second conference of young researchers into pre-Roman Italy

Du 10 au 12 mars 2021 se tiendra à Paris la deuxième édition de la rencontre des jeunes chercheurs travaillant sur l'Italie préromaine. Elle a pour thème « Dépasser la limite ». Le colloque est pluridisciplinaire. Toutes les disciplines sont bienvenues pour discuter de la limite dans toutes ces acceptions : territoriales, culturelles et idéelles. Les analyses pourront se mener à diverses échelles, de l’artefact ou du site à la région. L’ensemble du territoire italien est concerné, des régions septentrionales et intérieures à la Grande Grèce et à la Sicile en passant par la Sardaigne, les façades tyrrhéniennes et adriatiques (avec des extensions possibles vers les territoires immédiatement environnants dont la Corse). Le cadre chronologique envisagé est assez ample, du Bronze récent au Principat d’Auguste.

Dirty waters, troubled waters, run-off water: the management of undesirable waters in the Roman world

Au travers de recherches récentes, seront présentées les différentes formes que peuvent arborer les installations destinées à gérer les eaux indésirables tant en milieu urbain que rural. On se demandera si leurs caractéristiques architecturales sont le fruit de déterminismes environnementaux et culturels ou bien s’il s’agit de véritables modèles standardisés, qui se développent dans l’ensemble du monde romain. La frontière est parfois difficile à saisir entre réseau d’alimentation et réseau d’évacuation. Ce colloque propose donc de présenter les infrastructures non pas pour elles-mêmes mais dans l’optique de les intégrer au sein d’un réseau hydraulique cohérent, afin de comprendre les liens et les limites qui existent entre les réseaux d’alimentation et d’évacuation. Enfin, d’un point de vue méthodologique, on s’intéressera aux apports de l’étude de ces aménagements pour l’identification des espaces qu’ils traversent.

In a historical, trans-disciplinary and cultural approach, this workshop aims to deconstruct and to understand the practices, relationships and uses of actors who participate at the ecological structures that make up ancient and contemporary societies.

Occupying Space during Bronze and Iron Ages: From site to landscape

6th Doctoral Meetings of the European School of Protohistory of Bibracte

Archaeology and Space have always been intrinsically connected. On one hand, different attributes of the environment affected human beings forcing them to adapt their behaviour in order to succeed, while on the other, in doing so, communities have influenced their surrounding spaces by transforming them, in some cases irreversibly. As all human actions are by definition immersed in space, for this year’s meeting we have decided to approach the questions of understanding and interpreting these complex processes looking through the prism of scale on which they happen. The extent of these ranges from the processes that occur on the small levels in the spaces of archaeological sites extending to the larger levels when dealing with the narrative of cultural landscapes. Sessions will provide reflection on the social and spatial aspects of archaeological sites and landscapes and will incorporate themes related to subsistence, economy, social behaviour and ideology within the timespan of the European Bronze and Iron Ages.

Organised by the ERC Advanced Grant “Mapping Ancient Polytheisms. Cult Epithets as an Interface between Religious Systems and Human Agency” (MAP - 741182), the conference Naming and Mapping the gods in the Ancient Mediterranean. Spaces, Mobilities, Imaginaries hopes to bring together the competences and specialties of multiple disciplines – archaeology, history, geography, anthropology, history of religions, philology, reception, social network analysis – in order to consider new documentation corpora concerning the intersection between the divine and space. Among other things, the conference aims to propose an innovative angle of approach: the intersection between the spaces and designations of the gods.

Ce colloque interdisciplinaire est organisé dans le cadre du programme Watertraces, soutenu par la fondation Amidex d’Aix-Marseille Université. Il a pour objectif principal d’encourager un dialogue étroit entre les disciplines archéologiques et environnementales, en présentant et en interprétant des études de cas datées de l’Antiquité méditerranéenne, et plus précisément du 4e s. av. J.-C. au 1er s. apr. J.-C. Il s’agit de présenter des études novatrices sur des sites en partie sélectionnés sur la base de critères géologiques et hydrogéologiques.

Las IX Jornadas Filológicas son organizadas por tres universidades establecidas en la ciudad de Bogotá, Colombia. Se trata del principal evento de estudios clásicos en nuestro país, el cual, sin embargo, ha contado siempre con invitados internacionales reconocidos por su contribución al desarrollo de este campo disciplinar. Esta novena edición de las Jornadas estará dedicada al tema de la migración y la ciudadanía en el mundo antiguo y tendrá como propósito último establecer paralelos fructíferos y formular propuestas aplicables a las problemáticas actuales suscitadas a partir de los flujos migratorios y las políticas que toman los Estados para enfrentarlos.

The State and its territory since Antiquity - construction, deconstruction and reconstruction

Cette rencontre vise à proposer une nouvelle vision de la construction de l’Etat en étudiant la place du territoire dans ce processus, souvent issu de la guerre, ainsi qu’à identifier le rapport que ses acteurs entretiennent avec leur espace, leur attachement à celui-ci et leur(s) représentation(s) de celui-ci. Dans quelle mesure le territoire façonne-t-il un État, son administration, son identité ? Existe-t-il des critères géographiques idéaux pour (re)créer un État ? La localisation de ce dernier a-t-elle un réel impact dans sa déconstruction ? Autant d’interrogations au cœur d’une actualité brûlante avec l’essor du régionalisme : marquées par une identité forte, certaines régions comme la Catalogne, la Lombardie ou encore le pays basque portent des projets favorables à la réapparition d’anciens États dans une carte politique de l’Europe morcelée.

The old Babylonian Diyala: research since the 1930s and prospects

The region around the river Diyala, which runs approximately 500 km, from the mountains between Iraq and Iran, down to the south of Baghdad where it joins the Tigris, was the home of dozens of cities, villages and communities during the long history of ancient Mesopotamia. In the first centuries of the second millennium BCE, the strategic position of the region turned it into a point of articulation, dispute and mediation of the Babylonian area in the south and the Assyrian area in the north. Added to the growing power of the city of Eshnunna, this led the region to play a significant role in the international politics of those times.

IXème journée d’études nord-africaines

Les tribus africaines sont aujourd’hui pensées moins comme un groupe unitaire en opposition aux Romains que comme une réalité complexe, protéiforme, saisissable dans un cadre souple qui tient compte des découpages sociaux-économiques comme du rôle des sociétés provinciales dans l’intégration des élites tribales. Cette journée d'étude s'attachera aux découpages sociaux-économiques, ce qui permettra de réévaluer le rôle des élites tribales dans leur rapport avec les pouvoirs dominants. Il sera aussi intéressant d’étudier, les dynamiques internes des sociétés tribales à partir de leur relation aux systèmes politiques et administratifs ; les interactions avec les communautés politiques et les modalités d’intégration culturelle et religieuse aux cultures dominantes ; les usages linguistiques et onomastiques encore mal appréciés ; les figures politiques porteuses d’affirmations identitaires contemporaines (Jugurtha, Tacfarinas...).

La revue Dynamiques Environnementales souhaite réaliser un numéro centré sur la thématique de l’interaction entre les sociétés humaines du passé avec les phénomènes littoraux. Ce volume a pour ambition de croiser les approches archéologiques, géoarchéologiques et géomorphologiques afin de comprendre les dynamiques milieu/société, tout en dressant les paléo-environnements historiques. Cette thématique ne prévoit ni limites géographiques, ni cadre chronologique précis.
