  Ce colloque vise à mettre en lumière sous l’angle de l’architecture, de l’histoire, de l’archéologie et des sciences sociales les potentialités patrimoniales et les intérêts historiques, archéologiques et culturels des sites jusqu’alors méconnus ou délaissés de la ville d'El Jem, de l’Antiquité à nos jours en passant par l’époque romaine et les temps modernes. Le colloque  accueille une diversité d’approches et de réflexions à plusieurs niveaux, théorique, méthodologique et empirique.

  Les phénomènes coloniaux ont très largement été des phénomènes urbains. De même, la création de territoires urbains (villes nouvelles, infrastructures, settlements, etc.) sont régulièrement qualifiés de « colonial ». Ainsi, au croisement des études urbaines et des études coloniales, cet atelier doctoral envisage donc d'interroger, à l'aune de cas d'étude situés, aussi bien diverses situations coloniales que la prolifération contemporaine des discours qualifiant telle ou telle situation urbaine de « coloniale ».

  This meeting aims to foster a discussion about the continuities and disruptions which have conditioned the multi-ethnic dimension of Mediterranean cities. We would like to focus on the specificities of places and time in our millennial history that have produced both tangible and intangible cultural heritage. We would like to broaden the traditional horizons of our disciplines under the issues of our times, questioning the role of historical research and the forms of scientific communication nowadays, when old practices seem more challenged than ever by the overwhelming expansion of new technologies.

  Crossing boundaries: Rethinking European architecture beyond Europe

  Final conference of the COST Action IS0904

  The International network "European Architecture beyond Europe: Sharing Research and Knowledge on Dissemination Processes, Historical Data and Material Legacy (19th-20th centuries)", chaired by Mercedes Volait and Johan Lagae, and supported by EC funding through the COST Action IS0904, is organizing its final conference. It will be organized in 6 sessions : “Transnational studies and cultural transfers” (chaired by Kathleen James-Chakraborty), “Methods and methodologies: Writing the histories of Europeanimperial/colonial architecture” (chaired by Alex Bremner and JoAnne Mancini), "Looking eastward, building identities.
