The South Atlantic route and the business of the maritime transport of migrants (1870-1960)
The objective is to propose a special issue to the Journal of Transatlantic Studies, by contributing for the understanding of the business of emigrant maritime transport from the Belle Epoque until the end of the 1960s. The editors of the special issue (Yvette Santos and Paulo César Gonçalves) accept proposals focused on the study of the migration industry linked to the maritime transportation of emigrants from Europe to the South Atlantic countries.

Economy and culture in Amazigh milieus
La revue Asinag ⴰⵙⵉⵏⴰⴳ reçoit les propositions d'articles sur le thème « Économie et culture en milieux amazighes ». La réflexion autour des modes de vie des Amazighes a donné lieu à un ensemble de travaux portant sur l’économie de ces communautés. La plupart ont signalé l’importance stratégique du contrôle et de la régulation de ressources, notamment l’eau et la terre. La transformation, tout au long du XXe siècle, du régime de la propriété des ressources et sa réglementation par l’État-Nation, sans oublier les expériences de socialisation et/ou de privatisation des terres selon les pays d’Afrique du Nord, a bouleversé les pratiques des communautés amazighes en matière de gestion des ressources. L’objectif de ce dossier est d’approfondir la réflexion sur ces activités économiques dans les différents milieux amazighes afin de couvrir certains domaines qui n’ont pas été suffisamment explorés. Il s’agit donc de s’intéresser à la fois aux activités monétaires tels que le crédit ou encore l’évolution des prix ou des revenus, de production industrielle ou artisanale.

The Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH) announces a Summer School co-organised with the European University Institute (Florence) and the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History (Frankfurt), to be held at the Maison Robert Schuman in Luxembourg City from 22nd to 26th June 2020. This Summer School invites to test digital tools and methods for oral history and stresses how digital oral sources contribute to narratives in European Integration History.

Luxembourg and its broader region post First World War
La fin de la première guerre mondiale marque une transition dans les relations politiques, économiques, sociales et culturelles entre le Luxembourg et ses voisins dans ce que nous appelons aujourd’hui la Grande Région. Le centre de gravité politique et économique se déplace de l’Allemagne (de l’ouest) vers la France, tandis que la Belgique tente péniblement de trouver sa place dans ces réorganisations territoriales. Le colloque veut s’intéresser à ce processus de transition, en l’élargissant à une série de thématiques connexes, qui mettent en évidence le caractère international et transfrontalier de ces évolutions.

The direct fiscality of Swiss cantons: legislation and practices in the 19th and 20th centuries
La fiscalité des cantons a été très peu étudiée par la recherche historique. Cette situation est d’autant plus paradoxale que leur rôle est crucial dans un système fédéraliste comme celui de la Suisse. Ainsi, les cantons conservent une large souveraineté s’agissant des impôts directs et, durant le XXe siècle, le produit de la fiscalité qui, de manière immédiate ou médiate, est de leur ressort constitue environ 60% du total des recettes fiscales des collectivités publiques. Ce colloque a pour objectif de contribuer à combler cette lacune, pour la période de 1800 à nos jours. Dans ce sens, il s’adresse non seulement aux chercheuses et chercheurs universitaires (en histoire ainsi qu’en science politique, droit, économie, etc.), mais aussi aux archivistes, aux membres de sociétés d’histoire locales et cantonales ou encore aux historien.ne.s indépendant.e.s.

De Gruyter and the team of the Art Market Dictionary (AMD) are currently looking for authors interested in contributing to their encyclopedia project. The AMD is the first reference work providing encompassing information on commercial art galleries, dealers, auction houses, fairs and advisers in Europe, the USA and Canada in the 20th and 21st centuries. Due to appear in 2020, it will be published in print and as an online searchable database. It is edited by Johannes Nathan and supported by a number of specialized institutions such as the Getty Research Institute, the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte, or the Archives of American Art.

La première reconstruction 1918-1920
Dans une région profondément bouleversée par la Grande Guerre, où le retour à une vie normale s'est fait en surmontant d'innombrables difficultés, la Société historique de Soissons organise un colloque consacré à l'étude de cette reconstruction. L'étude ne se limite pas strictement au département de l'Aisne, mais s'étend aux départements limitrophes. Ce sujet comprend notamment le rôle de l'État, les initiatives privées, notamment l'action des coopératives de reconstruction. Parmi les nombreux angles d'étude possibles, on peut citer les aspects humains, sociaux, économiques, financiers, architecturaux et patrimoniaux. Les questions démographiques, la santé et l'hygiène seront aussi au coeur du colloque.

We invite contributions for our Workshop “Rethinking the Technical and the Human in Global Connectivity”, happening at Humboldt University Berlin, 24-25 May 2019. The materiality of technologies and infrastructures is significant; however, we think their impact on and interaction with societies has to be analysed in a global dimension as well. We hope to establish this approach for the broader field of African History, reacting and bringing attention to a growing interest in these questions indicated in a number of recently developed research projects and publications.

Since the 70s the presence of migrants in Europe, and especially in Italy, has become a structural issue and has been at the center of the public and political debate. The progressive demolition of welfare systems, the job precariousness, and new consumer lifestyles have generated different responses in terms of regulation of the admissions of foreign citizens in search of a job and their management (housing issues, access to health care, etc.). Both with regard to organization of forms of protection of immigrants in the exercise of theirs fundamental rights, especially in cases of serious discrimination and exploitation (immigrant associations, trade union action, etc.).

Bodies, markets and television, 1950s-1980s
In the television age, health and the body have been broadcasted in many ways: in short health education films, school television, professional training materials, TV ads, documentaries, reality TV shows and news, as well as stand-alone videos distributed to specific audiences. This three-day conference proposes an exploration of how television formats have influenced and staged bodies, health and healthy practices from local, regional, national and international perspectives, and how these TV programmes spread the conviction that viewers could and should invest in their health and shape their own body.

Pour sa VIIIe édition, le musée organise, avec l’Institut de recherches historiques du septentrion de l’université de Lille, sa journée d’étude sur le thème « Vivre sous l’occupation : illégalités, collaboration et résistance », le samedi 27 janvier à l'espace culturel de Bondues. Au fil des interventions, cette journée abordera des thèmes aussi variés que l’économie, la répression allemande, la lutte contre le marché noir, les actes illégaux des douaniers, la position de l’église et les survies juives, l’enseignement et la lutte clandestine sous l’occupation allemande.

On scrute l’évolution de la vie quotidienne des régions productives en fonction des aléas de la guerre. On détermine l’évolution des marchés extérieurs. On soupèse le poids de la commande publique et des marchés de l’Intendance, au sein de l’économie mixte de guerre. On précise le rôle des alcools industriels, avec ses effets sur les industries.
