  Prison spaces in the Middle Ages: an interdisciplinary approach to the territories and materialities of medieval incarceration

  While recent work has renewed our knowledge of medieval execution sites and of the internal layout of detention facilities, much remains to be done to understand the distribution of prison spaces and territories, in particular to shed light on the socio-spatial dynamics and logic of their establishment. These prison spaces evolved between the beginning and the extreme end of the Middle Ages, with prisons only multiplying from the 13th century onwards. These evolutions must be understood in close coordination with the evolutions of medieval justice and its spatial practices. Studies can be carried out at the scale of a building, a neighborhood, a city, a city, one or more regions.

  The ghettos of Italy in the 17th century

  XVIIe siècle journal

  L’histoire des ghettos juifs d’Italie a débuté à Venise il y a tout juste cinq siècles, en 1516. S’inspirant du modèle vénitien, les papes qui se succèdent à partir de la seconde moitié du XVI^e siècle mettent en œuvre une politique ségrégationniste à l’encontre des juifs, érigée en modèle à suivre pour les autres États de la péninsule italienne. Le modèle romain du ghetto, qui naît en 1555 avec la bulle Cum Nimis Absurdum, se détache néanmoins du prototype vénitien par sa dimension conversionniste, qui apparaît comme centrale. Ce numéro thématique devra donc combler un vide historiographique et proposer un éclairage nouveau sur le phénomène de ghettoïsation et sur les conditions de sa généralisation dans un certain nombre de territoires de la péninsule italienne.

  Labels in the field of cultural and natural heritage

  Created in the 60s, the label's use for cultural and natural heritage has increased dramatically for several years, specially in France. Inherited from the marketing and trade world, the use of labels for cultural and natural heritage illustrates the expansion of heritage's conception to new artefacts and new cultural properties, in an anthropological meaning. Some recent studies on the cultural and natural heritage labels  insist on the economic benefits for development of territories. But the legal and institutional dimensions of labels in heritage have been ignored. The goal  of the symposium is to define and precise the purposes and the caracteristics of labels in the field of heritage.

  The law of 31 December 1913 relating to historical monuments and their surroundings

  Protection and heritage 100 years on.

  Cent ans après son adoption, la loi du 31 décembre 1913 relative aux monuments historiques mérite une célébration digne des impacts qu'elle génère sur nos territoires. Cette loi a par ailleurs prouvé ses capacités d'adaptation d'une part en intégrant trente ans plus tard la protection des abords des monuments historiques, et d'autre part en faisant évoluer la notion même de patrimoine susceptible d'entrer dans son champ d'application. Cependant le cadre normatif et institutionnel dans lequel évolue cette loi patrimoniale s’est lui-même profondément transformé (décentralisation, lois Grenelle, etc.), questionnant de ce fait la pertinence contemporaine de la loi du 31 décembre 1913.
