Des sources a saisir : temporalités et usages des sources à la marge
En s’appuyant sur ce corpus de sources à saisir et sur les problématiques temporelles et méthodologiques qu’elles soulèvent, cette journée d’étude invite les jeunes chercheurs à exposer, à partir de leurs travaux, leurs propres sources à la marge, leurs approches scientifiques et leurs utilisations des outils méthodologiques pour s’en saisir. Quels ont été les critères de définition, de sélection et de hiérarchisation de son corpus de sources ? Quelle proportion occupent les sources à la marge dans ce corpus ? Peuvent-elles se substituer complètement aux sources textuelles ou nécessitent-elles un croisement des sources ? Le jeune chercheur doit-il élaborer une nouvelle grille de lecture, un nouveau questionnaire et de nouveaux outils méthodologiques pour les définir, les collecter, les appréhender et les exploiter ? Quel rôle les sources à la marge ont-elles joué dans la problématisation de leur objet d’étude ?

Mississippi Delta Communities Facing Disappearing Land
"Still on the Map!" takes as its context the Mississippi Delta fifteen years after Hurricane Katrina and about five years after the commissioning of the major new "100-year" flood protection infrastructure. Expressed from its title -a statement of resistance/resilience chanted by many inhabitants during ecological events in Louisiana- this research project aims to describe the links and "attachments" (LATOUR, 2017) that different communities in the delta maintain with their geographical environment in a situation of strong ecological tipping point, integrating the natural and artificial infrastructures of the watershed into the definition of ecosystems as socio-political actors in their own right. In a context where the delta's land is gradually sinking into the sea, every hour the surface area of a football pitch is permanently flooded.

Travel to, in, and from the Ottoman World and Turkish Republic
Turkish Journal of History (Tarih Dergisi)
For this special issue of Tarih Dergisi, the Turkish Journal of History, we invite original research addressing questions arising from travel to, in, and from the Ottoman Empire and Turkish Republic. Essays may focus on the place of travel writing in historiography. They may also address any and all aspects of travel. We particularly welcome studies of travel works in any format – books, manuscripts, letters, diaries, journals, reports, log-books, cartography, web-blogs – by Ottoman, Turkish, Arab, Asiatic and African travellers of any period. Essays need not, however, be restricted to conventional travelogues by individual travellers. We welcome studies concerned with modes of travel (pedestrianism, equestrian travel, trains, cars, planes, boats), and with questions involving mass travel (migrancy, nomadism, deportation).

Humanités numériques journal
Ce numéro consacré aux humanités numériques spatialisées a pour objectif de rassembler les communautés francophones de géomaticiens et de spécialistes en sciences humaines et sociales (SHS) qui se servent des méthodes computationnelles en vue d’explorer une perspective spatiale et spatio-temporelle sur des données mobilisées en SHS pour répondre à des questions de recherche. L'histoire, l'archéologie ou encore les études littéraires s'emparent souvent de la géomatique, qui associe également, depuis plusieurs années, des connaissances et expertises issues du traitement automatique des langues, de la représentation formelle des connaissances (ontologies) et de l'intelligence artificielle.

Reconfiguring / resignifying the city: urban ecotones in the South
Un « écotone » désigne initialement une zone de transition entre deux écosystèmes, par exemple entre terre et mer. Le programme « Écotones » (2015-2020) est un cycle de colloques visant à reprendre ce terme traditionnellement utilisé en géographie et en écologie et à élargir le concept en l’appliquant à d'autres disciplines des sciences sociales et des sciences humaines. Un « écotone » peut donc aussi être compris comme un espace culturel de rencontres, de conflits et de renouveau entre plusieurs communautés. Ce colloque interdisciplinaire portera plus spécifiquement sur les villes coloniales et postcoloniales du Sud en tant que dialectique « écotonale » entre lieux et non-lieux (Augé).

The Enlightened Nightscape (1700-1830)
The objective of The Enlightened Nightscape 1700-1830 is to present a cross-disciplinary discussion on the thinking about the concept of night through examples from the global and long eighteenth century. This edited collection seeks to bring together case studies that address how the night became visible in the eighteenth century through different mediums and in different geographical contexts. The proposed study of the representation, treatment, and meaning of the night in the long and global eighteenth century also contributes to an on-going exercise that questions the accepted definitions of the Enlightenment. By bringing Eighteenth-Century Studies into dialogue with Night Studies, The Enlightened Nightscape 1700-1830 enriches the critical conversation on both lines of research

Ce colloque sera l’occasion de repenser la notion d’espace dans les littératures de l’imaginaire (science-fiction, fantasy, bande-dessinée, etc.) et dans les médias associés (jeux vidéo, cinéma, arts, etc.), comme lieu propice aux fantasmes et à la créativité. Ouvert à tout type de recherche et pratiques disciplinaires et interdisciplinaires, nous proposons d’étudier cette notion dans sa perspective narrative mais également dans sa définition physique, géographique, technologique ou astronomique. Destiné en priorité aux étudiant·e·s et jeunes chercheur·euse·s, du master au post-doc, ce colloque vise à aller au-delà des dérives disciplinaires d’un domaine qui est à l’aube de ses impacts possibles dans d’autres disciplines, des recherches et d'applications en discutant de la diversité de ses représentations tout en motivant des initiatives interdisciplinaires.

For a poetics of river-cities of the world, between eco-criticism and geo-criticism
Deux grands courants critiques modernes se partagent aujourd’hui l’étude des lieux, joignant études géographiques et études littéraires : d’une part, la géocritique ainsi que la géopoétique, d’autre part, l’écocritique ainsi que l’écopoétique. Nous souhaitons engager la réflexion sur un espace qui nous paraît éminemment riche de potentialités d’étude : les villes-fleuves du monde. Il s’agit avant tout de choisir une ville-fleuve du monde et d’en exprimer la réalité voire l’essence et même la substance poétique jaillie de son réel ou de notre imaginaire, quel que soit le continent, pour montrer la diversalité que ces villes-fleuves représentent.

7th biennial conference of the European Network for Avant-Garde and Modernism Studies (EAM 2020)
Notions of crisis have long charged the study of the European avant-garde and modernism. Throughout their history, avant-gardists and modernists have faced crises, be they economic or political, scientific or technological, aesthetic or philosophical, collective or individual, local or global, short or perennial. Modernists and avant-gardists have in turn continually stood accused of instigating crises, whether artistic or cultural, sensorial or conceptual, incidental or intentional, far-reaching or negligible, representational or other. The very concepts of ‘avant-garde’ and ‘modernism’ are time and again subject—or subjected—to conceptual crises, leaving modernism and avant-garde studies as a field on the perpetual brink of a self-effacing theoretical crisis. The 7th biennial conference of the EAM intends to tackle the ways in which the avant-garde and modernism in Europe relate to crisi/es.

While recent work has renewed our knowledge of medieval execution sites and of the internal layout of detention facilities, much remains to be done to understand the distribution of prison spaces and territories, in particular to shed light on the socio-spatial dynamics and logic of their establishment. These prison spaces evolved between the beginning and the extreme end of the Middle Ages, with prisons only multiplying from the 13th century onwards. These evolutions must be understood in close coordination with the evolutions of medieval justice and its spatial practices. Studies can be carried out at the scale of a building, a neighborhood, a city, a city, one or more regions.

Participants, starting from their specific subjects and disciplines, are invited to reflect on the notion of margin, on the similar notions of limit and border, and on the place they hold in their own research.

Uses of history and urban changes
Des mythes de fondation antiques au storytelling contemporain, d’innombrables récits accompagnent le processus d’urbanisation planétaire. Le changement dans les villes n’est pas en effet un processus linéaire, et les sociétés urbaines mettent abondamment en récit ses péripéties. À ce phénomène assez bien connu, l’appel à communication qui suit ajoute l’hypothèse que de tels récits ont joué un rôle important dans l’accompagnement des mutations urbaines et qu’ils entretiennent des relations complexes et dialectiques avec les projets, plans d’aménagement, opérations de reconstruction, rénovation, politiques ou mobilisations urbaines en général c’est-à- dire toutes modalités de transformation intentionnelle ou subie des villes. L’objectif du colloque sera donc d’éclairer assez précisément le rapport entre ces narrations et les enjeux propres au changement urbain et à l’urbanisme.

Urban Writings, Exposed Writings
As part of the “Emergences” programme of the City of Paris, the bilingual journal Biens symboliques/Symbolic Goods is organizing, in partnership with Mucem, an international and interdisciplinary conference on urban writings, exposed writings. At a time when political and social news highlights graffiti, tags and other inscriptions on a daily basis, the aim will be to examine the acts and practices of writing in the urban space, and to reflect on the political, cultural, social and aesthetic challenges of these exposed writings. Thus could be considered studies on the authors of these urban writings, on the actors involved in their storytelling, on their form and materiality, on their perception and reception in the public and media space, on their symbolic and economic value, as well as on the methodological difficulties posed by their analysis and recording.

Les disciplines scientifiques se référant à la carte mentale sont toujours plus nombreuses et les méthodes de recueil de plus en plus variées, entremêlant souvent des modes hybrides entre la représentation mentale ou cognitive, liée à la représentation sociale et à l'imaginaire collectif, le parcours commenté, le dessin réflexif, le jeu, l’enquête visuelle, les cartes collectives... Dans ces représentations spatiales, l’espace est un cadre – géographique, certes, mais également un espace social, de pratiques, psychologique, cognitif, politique, artistique, identitaire, symbolique, etc. L’idée est de savoir si l’on peut changer la dimension – ainsi que le support – de la carte mentale (2D, 3D, utilisation de drône, réalité augmentée, etc. ?).

Le concept peut paraître trivial. On le côtoie quotidiennement dans des contextes aussi éloignés que le temps de travail ou le temps de cuisson. Dans nos disciplines, quelles qu’elles soient, on le rencontre par l’intermédiaire d’un champ lexical qui y a trait : durées, périodes, rythmes, cycles, événements et bien d’autres. Mais de quoi parle-t-on, au juste, quand on aborde le temps ? Qu’étudie-t-on à travers les termes liés à la temporalité ? Comment s’approprier ces acceptions plurielles ?

We intend to problematize various issues in the current scholarship of the humanities and social sciences from inter- and cross-cultural perspectives: cultural heritage, culture and globalization, identity and the sense of belonging, the impact of (re)writing literatures and other arts within the ethics of "reliance", proposed by Edgar Morin, and of the universalizing singularities, in Alain Badiou's view.
