  The Multidisciplinary Grid 2020 Conference

  The conference is aimed at examining the ‘grid’ as a cross-disciplinary theme with a multiplicity of expressions in terms of definitions, concepts, perceptions, representations, and histories. The ‘grid’ has played a significant role in shaping the spatial imaginaries of a wide range of fields: from Hippodamus of Miletus to the Cartesian revolution in mathematics, from the visual arts to archaeology to 'smart cities' and artificial intelligence. As the 'grid' has become an all-encompassing term, signifying a vast array of infrastructural and communication networks through which contemporary life is mediated and controlled, it is commonly viewed as a quintessential symbol of modernity. The conference strives to explore a new horizon of relationships and fusion of the ‘grids’ in these areas as manifested between humans, between machines, and between humans and machines ‒ bridging philosophical, cultural, pedagogical, technical and ethical issues.

  Multi-ethnic cities in the Mediterranean world

  This meeting aims to foster a discussion about the continuities and disruptions which have conditioned the multi-ethnic dimension of Mediterranean cities. We would like to focus on the specificities of places and time in our millennial history that have produced both tangible and intangible cultural heritage. We would like to broaden the traditional horizons of our disciplines under the issues of our times, questioning the role of historical research and the forms of scientific communication nowadays, when old practices seem more challenged than ever by the overwhelming expansion of new technologies.

  Comment la recherche sur les ambiances architecturales et urbaines peut-elle se saisir de l’expérimentation ? Comment des phénomènes d’ambiance peuvent être approfondis ou découverts par le biais d’expérimentations spatiales ou comment ces expérimentations peuvent-elles être construites ou pensées sur la base d’hypothèses relatives aux ambiances ? Souvent présentée comme support de l’innovation tant technique, qu’esthétique ou sociale, quel type d’expérimentation peut faire avancer la construction de connaissances, la production d’artefacts ou la mise en mouvement de processus de transformations architecturales et urbaines susceptibles de favoriser, d’entraîner ou de modifier des ambiances habitées ?

  Patrimoine protégé et patrimoine menacé, quels critères de sélection et quels outils pour parer à l'urgence et partager la mémoire ?

  « Il faut se hâter car les ruines s'amoncellent ; le temps détruit, et les hommes aident consciencieusement le temps » écrivit Leo Drouyn à la fin du XIX^e siècle. Ce triste constat est-il d'un autre temps ? Notre journée d'études internationale propose un tour d'horizon qui, à partir d'une série d'exemples, nous permettra de mieux apprécier la situation actuelle. Patrimoine protégé ou menacé, quels critères de sélection ? Quels outils pour parer à l'urgence, conserver et partager la mémoire ?

  L'urbanisme, l'architecture et le jeu

  Jouer pour mieux régner, avec ou sans l'ego ?

  Ces journées entendent interroger les liens entre le jeu, la conception et la pratique de l'urbanisme et de l'architecture. Elles s'intéresseront à la création, la représentation, la simulation et la modélisation des projets architecturaux et d'aménagement dans leurs dimensions physiques mais aussi processuelles, en termes de rapports de pouvoir entre acteurs.
