    Cosmopolitanism revisited

    Comparative Perspectives on Urban Diversity from the Gulf and Beyond

    This conference aims to revisit the notion of cosmopolitanism in Gulf cities and other regional areas from a comparative perspective. It will be a unique opportunity for scholars of the Gulf and other world regions to engage with cosmopolitanism or otherwise probe the intersection of global studies, urban studies and migration studies from a range of disciplines. More specifically, panels will be organized around the following research themes:“cosmopolitan canopy”, cosmopolitanism in theoretical and comparative perspectives, new geographies of cosmopolitanism in Gulf cities.

    XIIth European Days of Galatasaray

    Since 2002, the European Days of Galatasaray constitute an annual opportunity to bring together researchers interested in interdisciplinary topics related to Europe. The theme of the 12th European Days, is entitled: “Crossed Perspectives on European Borders: Mobility, security and borders”.The goal of the conference is to tackle issues such as borders, new forms of mobility, migration policies and securitization in a changing context strongly marked by the financial and economic crisis in the region.

    Political transitions and urban change in the Mediterranean

    Le projet « Transitions politiques et mutations urbaines en Méditerrané » (financement Envi-Med/Mistrals) porté par le CEDEJ (MAEE/CNRS) vise à mieux cerner les liens entre les grands changements politiques et sociaux en cours sur la rive sud de la Méditerranée et les processus d’urbanisation à l’œuvre. Partant principalement des cas égyptien et tunisien ce projet fait un double postulat : d’abord, les épisodes révolutionnaires survenus dans le cadre du Printemps arabe ont de fortes répercussions au plan de la production, de la gestion et de la pratique des villes ; ensuite, la période de transition actuelle qui marque dans certains pays la fin des régimes autoritaires et l’avènement de la démocratie constitue une fenêtre d’opportunité pour refonder un développement urbain impliquant les sociétés civiles.
