  The Routes of Medieval Africa

  11th-17th centuries

  This symposium will take stock of the theoretical ambition of this programme, relative to the disciplinary tools available to us today, to disclose, to distinguish and above all to ponder the historical connections established. If the plants, epidemics, commercial goods or written materials are proof of often-forgotten connections, they inform us only indirectly on the intensity and consequences of these economic, political and cultural connections for the societies of Southern, Eastern or Western Africa. Starting from this observation, the historians, archaeologists, linguists, and philologists involved in this release will reflect on multidisciplinary models that go beyond the observation of a connection and switch towards a more integrative concept of “route,” understood, in the broader sense, as a connection in progress. I this respect, the third and final objective of this symposium will stimulate further reflection on the routes that crisscrossed medieval Africa, and the practices, mobilities, and representations that they created.

  18th conference of doctoral students in the history of medieval islamic worlds (Dīwān association)

  L’association Dīwān, créée en 1998, réunit une fois par an l’ensemble des doctorants en histoire des mondes musulmans médiévaux. Chaque rencontre s’étend sur trois jours et permet aux doctorants de présenter l’état de leurs recherches au cours de présentations, de discussions et d’ateliers auxquels assistent les enseignants et les chercheurs de notre discipline.

  Religious Minorities in Europe : Normative Texts and Social Practices

  RELMIN seminar and workshop cycle

  Le projet de recherche RELMIN sur le statut légal des minorités religieuses dans l'espace euro-méditerrannée entre le V^e et le XV^e siècle organise comme chaque années depuis 2010 une série de séminaires et de journées d'études. Les séances de l'année 2013-2014 s'organisent autour de la thématique « Minorités religieuses en Europe : textes normatifs et pratiques sociales » et sont l'occasion de découvrir le travail de l'équipe RELMIN ansi que celui des chercheurs internationaux qui sont conviés pour leur expertise dans un domaine spécifique.
