Danser à distance, danser en ligne
L’année 2020, marquée par les confinements et les protocoles sanitaires d’isolement et de distanciation sociale dus à la pandémie de Covid-19, a vu proliférer les « (dist)danses », terme par lequel nous référons aux pratiques dansées à distance, notamment celles médiatisées par des vidéos diffusées en ligne : jams collectives en temps réel sur Zoom, entraînements et cours dispensés sur Instagram et Facebook, flash-mobs lors des applaudissements de soignants à 20h, créations audiovisuelles de chorégraphies partagées, ou encore challenges sur TikTok. Mais si les (dist)danses se développent quand, pour des raisons sanitaires, politiques, religieuses ou autres, les pratiques de danse sont limitées voire interdites, elles ne représentent pas seulement un mode « par défaut » ou « de repli ». Elles constituent des choix, des opportunités et des ressources saisies par les danseurs∙euses en dehors de toute « crise » ou situation désignée comme telle.

Bearing Witness to Traumatic Experiences: Cultural Productions of Uyghurs in Exile
PhD position in Asian Studies
This Ph.D. position is funded by a MIS (Mandat d’Impulsion Scientifique/ Incentive Grant for Scientific Research) project: “Bearing Witness to Traumatic Experiences: Cultural Productions of Uyghurs in Exile”. Uyghurs are a Turkic-speaking people based at the border of Central Asia and the north-western part of China. Massive internments and arrests of hundreds of thousands of Uyghurs have taken place in the region since 2016, including the Uyghur elite. In these conditions, centers of the cultural production of the Uyghurs have shifted from their native land to the diaspora spread across the world. This project looks at Uyghur diasporic cultural production that aims at drawing the world’s attention and bearing witness to the various abuses perpetrated at home by the Chinese government. The whole project analyses selected poems, short films, video clips, and dance and music performances to tackle new transmedial forms of testimonies in the Uyghur case.

Understanding images and media sounds (CEISME)
Le séminaire Comprendre les Images et les Sons Médiatiques (CEISME) (Sorbonne Nouvelle-CIM) présente les recherches actuelles en matière de culture(s) audiovisuelle(s) et télévisuelle(s), sans oublier les contenus transitant par les nouveaux écrans, en invitant aux dialogues chercheurs.es. confirmé·es et jeunes chercheurs·es. Trop souvent les liens entre culture et télévision se résument à la seule question de la télévision culturelle, entendue comme culture savante. Or, la télévision demeure encore le principal vecteur de la culture populaire. C’est pourquoi l’étude de ses formes, de ses récits sériels ou unitaires, de ses dispositifs de médiatisation et de ses programmes mérite qu’on accorde une attention particulière à la part de création ainsi engagée dans ces productions « grand public » qui ne cessent de reconfigurer ainsi la notion de culture. Ce séminaire, ouvert à toutes et tous, propose un regard croisé sur les créations audiovisuelles d’hier et d’aujourd’hui.

Ethnographie de la performance « art-sport » vers Paris 2024
La journée d’étude et la publication de ses actes croisent logiques d’artistes (performing arts) et de scientifiques en arts du spectacle vivant et/ou études sportives. Elle initie une ethnographie de la performance « art-sport » dans le contexte de l’olympiade culturelle (2020-2024), vers les Jeux olympiques de Paris (2024). Ses travaux documentent sur les pratiques performatives urbaines et spectaculaires se développant à la fois dans la rue et en ligne (jonglage, dondurma, sign spinning, freestyle ball, breakdance, street workout…) en articulation avec les politiques publiques territoriales et ses acteurs associatifs locaux.

"Perspective" Journal 2021 – n°2
This call for paper asks the question of what it means to inhabit : to inhabit a space, a territory, one’s home or one’s body, whether we are dealing with far away frontiers, or the outlines of intimacy ; to inhabit one’s life, one’s society/ies, one’s epoch, in what inhabiting means in terms of being present in one’s world, for and with one another, to face circumstances as they stand. In a time when, across the globe, entire populations are confined to their homes, Perspective issues an invitation to revisit the visual and imaginary plasticity of inhabiting : “to occupy a place of settled residence or habitat,” so states the dictionary, suggesting habit, repetition, regularity ; but also occupying persons, inhabiting them, animating them, moving them.

Gnwt (Genout) est une revue annuelle publiée au mois de septembre. Elle est éditée par le Réseau des enseignants-chercheurs en égyptologie et civilisations d’Afrique noire (RECECAN). Elle publie les articles des domaines des langues, des lettres, des sciences de l’homme et de la société, qui portent de préférence sur l’histoire ancienne de l’Afrique noire. Une rubrique varia peut cependant être consacrée à la diffusion des articles inédits en rapport avec d’autres périodes de l’histoire africaine. Tous ces savoirs doivent néanmoins avoir pour grille de lecture et fil conducteur les sources essentiellement endogènes de première main pouvant contribuer à une meilleure lecture et compréhension du passé séculaire de l’Afrique noire.

The Social Museum (musée de société) Today, Legacy and Evolution
Since the end of the 1980s, many ethnographic museums around the world have evolved in line with political issues and current social and cultural preoccupations. Some of these changes have taken place within the framework of the creation of new national museums, especially where multicultural policies are at work. While these institutions’ missions are vastly different, they are frequently regrouped under the umbrella term “social museums”. These museums are dedicated to the representation of societies, both past and present, from varying viewpoints while at the same time demanding a social and civic role through their grappling with contemporary issues of identity, culture, society and environment. This issue of Culture & Musées aims to reformulate this concept in order to better understand its meaning, its uses, but also its most recent evolution within the context of 21st-century museums.

At the International Society for Ethnology and Folklore (SIEF) 2020 conference, one of the panels proposed to break the rules to think about building or rebuilding identity, trauma, relationships to the environment and others in the face of military experience. This is an ethnography conference and all disciplines using ethnography are welcome.

Domestic accumulation, decluttering, and the stuff of kinship in anthropological perspective
We invite submissions of abstracts considering the following sorts of questions: What is the relationship between storage and the labor of kinship? What kinds of possessions are sources of obligation? Which are experienced as social or animate beings? What social practices and spatial processes surround waste, excess, and the riddance of objects from the home? How might local ethnographic concepts like hau orbrol inform the anthropological understanding of attachment to possessions, recycling, or the circulation of second-hand objects? When is accumulation a valued social practice, and when is it morally suspect? How is the space of storage constructed in relationship to the social space of the home, and how might this reflect on the local category of stored things? We invite authors to consider how practices such as storage, stockpiling, and purging of belongings can be approached anthropologically in order to provide both nuanced ethnographic depth and broader cross-cultural and historical perspective. Interdisciplinary perspectives are also welcome.

Qui sont les futurs intervenants sociaux et les futures intervenantes sociales ? Dans quelles couches de la population se recrutent-ils et se recrutent-elles ? Quelles sont leurs motivations lors de leur entrée en formation ? Celles-ci sont-elles transformées ou confirmées par la formation dont ils et elles bénéficient ? Et dans chacun de ces deux cas, pourquoi et comment ? Et donc, peut-on caractériser finement le processus de formation qu’ils et elles rencontrent et peut-on répondre à la triple question : qu’est-ce que former un ou une intervenant·e social·e et s’il s’agit d’un processus, comment le définir et comment le caractériser ? Ou, pour le dire autrement, l’élaboration d’une identité professionnelle se fait-elle, dans ce secteur d’activités, au prix d’une modification de l’identité personnelle et, si tel est le cas, cette modification est-elle imposée ou subie et à travers quels mécanismes se met-elle en place ?

À la suite du cycle 2019-2020, « Être représenté, contribuer, faire société », le cycle 2020-2021 « Mémoire, langues, territoires » se propose d’explorer la manière dont nous habitons les événements du passé et ceux du présent, comment ils nous atteignent et nous constituent à travers les récits, les images, les musiques, les langues, la mode, les objets. De quoi nous souvenons-nous, dans quel(s) « nous » avons-nous le sentiment de nous reconnaître, et comment se dessine un territoire dans l'entrelacement des mémoires et des langues ?

En posant, la question des impostures et des vérités en art(s) à partir d’œuvres singulières, il s’agit de s’interroger lors du colloque, sur la manière dont chaque artiste s’arrange ou dérange la « société de l’imposture » en proposant des formes de création inédites, en ayant par exemple recours dans leurs fictions : au plagiat, à la tromperie, au faux dans les productions proposées à leurs publics, pour transgresser de manière critique les impostures présentes dans l’ordinaire de nos vies.

Images of foreigners in European cartoons and graphic novels
Interculturality, exoticisation, and narrative status
Comment l'autre, l'étranger, proche ou lointain, est-il représenté dans l'espace des narrations graphiques, quel que soit le genre de la bande dessinée (bande dessinée historique, de reportage, autobiographie, fantastique, humoristique, de science-fiction) ? Plus particulièrement, comment l'altérité et la différence sont-elles représentées dans l'espace socio-culturel de la bande dessinée en Europe, notamment dans l'espace franco-belge. L'histoire de la bande dessinée épouse celle de la période coloniale (de 1827 à 1960) ainsi que postcoloniale. La question de la caricature, de l'humour envers les autres culturels (Astérix), de la parodie, du récit historique à but éducatif ou apologétique vis-à-vis de la jeunesse (Tintin au Congo), sont autant de questions délicates quant au rapport entre un art de la bande dessinée qui vise à divertir, mais aussi convaincre, faire de la politique et imaginer l'ailleurs et ses étrangers.

Foreign Students, Intellectuals and Artists in France in May-June ‘68
The historiography of the '68 years has recently favoured a global approach to social movements, emphasizing movement and exchange between countries and continents. This historiography is very rich, as is the one concerning more specifically the French May. Nevertheless, there are still some blind spots, or some areas that have not been explored. One of these is the role of foreign students, or more broadly foreign intellectuals and artists (writers, artists, musicians, teachers, etc.) in France in May-June ‘68. This presence of foreigners in France has been the subject of studies when it comes to immigrant workers, whose significant participation in the May movement is now known. But the presence of students and/or intellectuals, and therefore their participation in the movement, is still largely ignored. Many of them studied in the French capital, or in other university towns in the area. They represented 5.7% of the total student population in 1968-1969, and this number sharply increased from the end of 1968. They were African (North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa), European (German, Portuguese, Italian, Spanish, Greek, British), South American, Israeli, North American (United States or Quebec), Palestinian. They generally adhered to the French May while implementing specific logics linked to the political and social conditions of their country of origin.

Les étudiantes et étudiants de deuxième et de troisième cycles, ainsi que les jeunes chercheures et chercheurs en communication sont invitées et invités à soumettre un texte pour le prochain numéro thématique de COMMposite (Vol. 22, n. 1) intitulé « Communication non verbale : de l’émoji à la gestuelle ». La revue accepte les articles originaux, les notes de recherche, les entrevues et les recensions d’ouvrages reflétant la recherche francophone en communication. Le prochain numéro invite à contribuer à la littérature scientifique francophone sur la communication non verbale, dans son sens le plus large, le tout au moyen de méthodologies variées.
