Disability and geography: spatialities of disability and social and professional integration

8th EUGEO Congress on the Geography of Europe

The disability rights movement laid the foundation for the current development of disability studies. A number of geography-based studies have been part of this stream of research since the 1990s. From different theoretical perspectives, they aim to study the links between disability and spatial injustice or to explore the sensitive dimension of the spatial relationships of people with disabilities. This EUGEO 2021 session wishes to highlight all the work that considers disability and its issues through a spatial approach. Whether the study of the mobility of people with disabilities or the analysis of their objective and subjective links with space, work that analyzes the spatialities of disability in their multiplicity and diversity will be particularly appreciated. With the aim of understanding to what extent space can be an asset or a hindrance for people with disabilities, this session also encourages work that questions the different logics of social and professional integration and in particular the influence of the living environment in these logics.

Quinze ans après le début des premières opérations nous vous proposons d’appréhender de manière réflexive les changements socio-spatiaux que la rénovation urbaine a impulsés dans les quartiers, entre discours et représentations, intentions et réalisations. Par conséquent, ce numéro de la revue Idées et Territoires proposera, via vos contributions, de participer à comprendre comment s’illustrent les changements induits et produits par cette politique urbaine de grande envergure sur les quartiers, l’habitat, les lieux et les habitants. Les articles portant sur des terrains d’étude en Bretagne-Pays de la Loire sont particulièrement souhaités mais non exclusivement.

Behaviour, Management and Response

The actual behaviour of individuals and government entities before, during, and immediately after a disaster can dramatically affect the impact, vulnerability, recovery time and resilience. Despite decades of research on disaster risk and perception, studies on actual damages and responses after disasters, decision-making tools, and actionable knowledge of the actual behaviour of the populations are still a challenge. Uncertainty derives from lack of information, lack of trust, alternatives, previous experience, but also segregation, oppression, etc. This conference is addressing the knowledge gap between risk perception, evacuation, response, and adaptation behaviour. It aims to build a multidisciplinary panoramic European view.

Cet appel à articles pour la revue Géocarrefour a pour ambition d’interroger une composante cruciale de l’héritage industriel : la pollution des sols et le rapport que les sociétés locales entretiennent avec elle. Les acteurs des territoires anciennement industrialisés – y compris des métropoles aujourd’hui éloignées économiquement, socialement et symboliquement de l’industrie – sont confrontés à la pollution des sols dans la production et la gestion quotidiennes des espaces urbains.

Juntando antropólogos a trabalhar sobre territorialidades em contextos indígenas no Brasil e antropólogos a trabalhar sobre territorialidades em espaços associados às margens da cidade de Lisboa, e colocando em debate etnografias sobre a terra como parte de processos de pertença com etnografias mais dirigidas a conflitos entre diferentes políticas públicas, o simpósio promete uma discussão que comprova a centralidade da questão da terra na conjuntura contemporânea.

Entre meuble et flux humains

socio-po(ï)étique des espaces de transit

L’imprévisibilité des « effluves qui circulent entre les personnes » (Michaux) donne au flux humain une forme meuble in vivo. Ce faire (poïen) social repousse sans cesse la matérialisation poétique des espaces de transit, structure métaphorique et fonctionnelle (metaphorá, en grec : le transport) : parvis et autres entrées de bâtiments, architectures transparentes et modulaires des gares ou des aéroports, etc. Étant entendu que le bon fonctionnement humain nécessaire à l’efficacité économique de ces espaces contraint cette matérialisation à respecter des normes sociotechniques sécurisantes alliant circulation ergonomique et attente courtoise. Du coup, la relation entre meuble et flux humains renvoie à « un problème socio-plastique d’adéquation entre la substance relationnelle et sa représentation proxémique » (Edward T. Hall qualifie par ce dernier terme l’étude normative des distances sociales en milieu réel).

Ce colloque vise à renforcer le dialogue entre les acteurs opérationnels de la gestion des déchets (collectivités locales, entreprises, experts, associations, etc.) et les chercheurs. Il s’agit de rendre compte à la fois des innovations de terrain et des réflexions plus larges. L’objet « déchets » impose également une approche pluridisciplinaire afin d’en saisir l’ensemble des contraintes. L’approche internationale permettra d’offrir des pistes élargies de compréhension de la problématique. La publication postérieure d’actes permettra enfin de conserver une trace écrite des communications orales et des posters.
