Clothing, fashion and resistance
The Association belge de science politique (ABSP) and the Associations francophones de science politique (CoSPoF) congress 2021
Des soutiens-gorges jetés par les féministes américaines dans les « poubelles de la liberté » à la nudité des Femen, du polo Fred Perry des suprémacistes américains aux tee-shirts no logo des altermondialistes, du béret du Che au keffieh d’Arafat, le vêtement, et parfois son absence, nourrit le spectre des résistances, alimente la scénographie des contestations, leur confère une visibilité quitte à jouer, comme les Black Blocs, sur l’anonymat protecteur. Ce projet comprendra trois axes : le rôle du vêtement dans la construction des antagonismes, sa place dans les processus de mobilisation et son étude en tant que vecteur de circulation interculturelle des modalités de la résistance.

LGBTI and Queer Art, Culture and Activism
In France, a few years after the law authorizing same-sex marriage, LGBTQ associations are now facing new struggles, fighting for access to assisted procreation or the creation of a communal archive center. Drawing on these dynamics, this conference aims at interrogating the bonds between LGBTQ forms of arts, cultures and activisms. We look forward to opening a space for academics and grassroots activists, whether they be engaged in institutional collectives or not, to exchange, reflect and dialogue. LGBTQ-related topics appear to be often overlooked in French research networks. We aim to make it more visible and richer, and make it dialogue with local, national and international networks of academics and activists. The « LGBTI and Queer Art, Culture and Activism » online conference is jointly organised by the Université de Lorraine and its research centres (2L2S and CREM), with the support of the French ministry of culture (DRAC Grand-Est), and the LGBTIQ centre Couleurs Gaies.

Influence practices in XXth and XXIst Centuries
The field of influence activities is increasingly proliferating (advertising, propaganda, marketing, public relations, communication, soft power, social psychology, fake news, applied algorithmic, etc.). It is important to grasp not only their scope, but their extension, their dynamics, their practices, their logic, their techniques. Where and on whom do they work? What are their histories? Who are their practitioners? What are their pioneer fronts? Why is it important to consider them just as much each in their specificity, and together? What is the contribution of influence practices to the production of value (economic and political)? From the point of view of the present and from the one of long duration history, is not influence government (a form of governmentality) a major dimension of the deep neoliberal turn the world is experiencing nowadays?

Urgent issue of The Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge
This special issue, Tilting, seeks to take up themes that have animated the Blackwood’s program and mandate throughout the last several years: questions of connectivity, the challenges of public and private space, community and/in isolation; imperatives to re-structure modes and methodologies of care, including revaluing care work, confronting collective care responsibilities within colonial and capitalist structures, and engaging with the infrastructures, aesthetics, contestations, and radical possibilities of mutual aid; responses to the precarization of art, labour, and life; interest in what modes of knowledge production, circulation, and re-distribution are vital to us now, and how these networks might take new form. These urgencies continue to drive Blackwood programming (and this forthcoming publication), supporting and activating artists, curators, and writers who incite us to be responsive, critical, and answerable.

The notion of "culture" and studying the facts of war
La journée d'études portera sur la notion de « culture » et l'étude du fait guerrier. Elle s'adresse aux doctorants et jeunes chercheurs de toutes les disciplines de sciences humaines et sociales. Le programme est articulé autour de trois axes. Un premier sera consacrée aux cultures politiques et stratégiques et à l'influence des idéologies et des perceptions sur l'élaboration des stratégies. Un deuxième s'intéressera à la culture militaire au sens large, à travers la culture des corps et des métiers de l'armée. La dernière partie élargira l'étude de la culture militaire, au-delà de la seule institution militaire, pour embrasser d'autres types de sociétés ou groupes en armes.

Theatre on the barricades? Art and the challenge of revolutions
Research cycle: "Revolts, revolutions and performance in the Near and Middle-East in the 21st century"
Depuis près de deux décennies, les pays du Proche et du Moyen-Orient ont connu de nombreux mouvements politiques, de révoltes, et de contestations. Dans des sociétés où la liberté d’expression était limitée et le discours contrôlé, ces mouvements de révoltes se sont accompagnés de l’émergence et d’un renouvellement de la création artistique, notamment dans le domaine des arts de la scène. Le cycle de recherches que nous avons mis en place a pour objectif d’étudier la trajectoire politique et sociale des pays des régions du Proche et du Moyen-Orient par le biais de la création artistique, en particulier les arts de la scène et de la performance. Cette troisième et dernière journée de réflexion a pour objectif de se concentrer à l’étude des arts du spectacle en temps de Révolution, sur le lien entre théâtre et événement dit « révolutionnaire », en particulier celui des printemps arabes de 2011.

Heritage collections. Do they have a future?
Les collections patrimoniales constituent aujourd'hui un impensé de la réflexion muséologique, en arrière plan des préoccupations des acteurs et des chercheurs en muséologie. Pourtant, les problématiques qu'elles soulèvent avec les transformations rapides des musées et d'une manière plus générale des institutions patrimoniales méritent une attention renouvelée : dialectiquement, et même si cette proposition semblera à certains sacrilège, ne faut-il pas envisager de se défaire de collections devenues encombrantes pour diverses raisons ? Ou, comme on le fait dans une bibliothèque, de les « désherber » périodiquement en mettant au pilon des pans entiers de collections, des séries, ou de multiples exemplaires identiques devenus encombrants, démodés ou inutiles ? Les musées doivent-ils accepter sans discussion les legs des collectionneurs ou les collections des différents musées qui décident de fermer ? Ce numéro de la revue Culture & Musées abordera les recherches sur la gestion des collections, leurs nouveaux usages ainsi que les transformations de l’exposition permanente des collections.

Jazz, globalisation and communities
Jazz, globalisation and communities
Now a quasi-universal musical form, present in all five continents, jazz developed as a result of a complex process of cultural exchange, making it a true product of cultural globalisation. Typical of the success of the « glocal », as defined by Robertson in 1994, between the « resilience of the local and global consciousness », jazz has generated new communities of amateur and professional musicians around a strong local musical tradition, thanks first to the presence of foreign musicians, and second to the global nature of jazz itself. The aim of this one-day conference will be to explore the local and global dimensions of these jazz communities from the point of the musicians, the audiences and media, in order to understand how jazz, the quintessentially global musical genre, creates not just local and global communities, but also the links between these very communities.

"Fight The Power"? Hip-hop and the social relations to power
Ce séminaire de recherche du Centre de recherches sociologiques et politiques de Paris (Cresppa) explore les rapports de pouvoir dans les musiques hip-hop sous les angles esthétique, politique et professionnel. Il y est question des rapports de pouvoir qui configurent les industries musicales et les trajectoires des artistes et personnels de renfort des musiques hip-hop, mais aussi des contestations sociales portées dans et hors des mondes du hip-hop, notamment du point de vue des rapports sociaux de classe, de sexe et de race. Les musiques hip-hop y sont abordées en tant que phénomène français mais aussi international, en dialogue avec les collègues étrangers invité·e·s au sein du Cresppa ou de passage en France.

Music and Political Democratisation in Late Twentieth Century
This event aims to innovatively question how musical practices formed ways of imagining democracy in the democratic transitions that took place after Portugal’s ‘Carnation Revolution’ in 1974 – what Huntington (1991) called the ‘third wave’ of democratisation, which involves more than 60 countries throughout Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Africa. Rather than studying music’s diverse deployments within these political contexts (music ‘in’ transitions to democracy), these study days place the emphasis upon ways in which music embodies democratisation processes and participates in the wider social struggle to define freedom and equality for the post-authoritarian era (hence the ‘and’ in the title of the event).

The Philosophical Journal of Conflict and Violence is seeking articles dealing with philosophical issues that arise in connection with the depiction of violence in film and television. Violence, real or threatened, drives the plots of many, if not most, of the narratives we watch on the screen. Detectives solve grisly murders, victims seek revenge, teenagers flee slashers, gangsters spray bullets, Kungfu fighters trade punches, and armies clash on the battlefield (or in outer space). While almost everyone claims to wants to reduce the levels of violence in society, movie audiences regularly get an enormous kick out of watching on the screen what we abhor in real life. But not all cinematic violence is meant to titillate. Often the aim is to bring audiences closer to the sickening reality of the mistreatment and abuse suffered by those whose plights might otherwise remain invisible to us. While many worry that exposure to cinematic violence may desensitize us, perhaps it can also serve to awaken our empathy.

Tous les deux s'inspirent de l'histoire du sport pour (ré)affirmer le rôle historique des équipes dans une perspective historique.

The spaces of satire
Qu’elle s’exprime par des mots, des paroles, des gestes ou des images, la satire repose sur la croyance fondamentale en la capacité du langage à agir sur la réalité. Son action corrosive, consistant à utiliser la ressource du rire pour jeter le discrédit sur les vices et les dissimulations, semble trouver son origine dans des rituels archaïques, avant d’entrer dans les domaines de la littérature, des arts visuels et de la caricature politique que nous connaissons. En tant qu’acte de de dénonciation, la satire est toujours porteuse d’une conception sous-jacente des rapports de pouvoir et de domination, et d’une idée de la justice qu’elle oppose aux dérèglements du monde. Or, ces éléments sont susceptibles d’être discutés, contestés et mis à mal, faisant de la satire une activité intrinsèquement suspecte. Ce colloque réunit politistes, philosophes, historiens, linguistes, sociologues et juristes pour dessiner l’espace de contraintes dans lequel évolue la pratique satirique.

Capitalism, liberalism and constitutionalism
Les liens d’origine entre le libéralisme et le constitutionnalisme sont bien connus, leurs évolutions l’étant un peu moins. Les liens entre le capitalisme et le libéralisme et leurs évolutions ont également été souvent soulignés et commentés. En revanche, les liens entre le capitalisme et le constitutionnalisme ont été très peu analysés, fort peu par les juristes, un peu par les économistes et par les philosophes. Le dénominateur « libéral » commun apparaît d’évidence à première vue, mais il doit quand même être sérieusement interrogé. En tous les cas, relier capitalisme et constitutionnalisme via ou non le filtre du libéralisme reste une démarche jusqu’ici largement inexplorée. Le colloque s’appuie sur une démarche pluri et même interdisciplinaire, qui réunit des chercheurs en droit, philosophie, science politique et sciences économiques.

La Fondation de la mémoire contemporaine lance un appel à contributions pour son prochain numéro des Cahiers de la Mémoire contemporaine. La revue a pour mission de rassembler des analyses historiques, culturelles ou sociologiques sur l'histoire des Juifs en Belgique. Parmi les sujets traités dans ses pages : les différents mouvements migratoires vers ou de la Belgique, les structures d’aide sociale, les processus de socialisation, la Résistance juive, les enfants cachés, la vie religieuse, les relations avec Israël, la reconstruction de la vie juive après-guerre... Les Cahiers sont également ouverts à des présentations de sources, des recensions d'ouvrages, des réflexions méthodologiques ainsi que des éclairages biographiques. Des études sur des sujets adjacents peuvent également être acceptées.

6th Colloquium on Crime and Criminal Justice in Early Modern and Modern Times
The colloquium provides an open forum for discussion, debate and the presentation of PhD-, postdocand other research projects related to the history of crime and justice in the early modern and modernperiod. It aims for an interdisciplinary exchange between scholars of a wide range of subjects suchas history, legal history, sociology, anthropology, ethnology, humanities, political science and others. Core issues that will be addressed are various forms of crime and delinquency, law and normativity, criminal prosecution and justice, punishment and social control as well as sources and methodicalapproaches. We also invite contributions of scholars who would like to enter into a dialogue with researchers from the field of crime and criminal justice even though the mentioned topics would onlyconstitute a part of the respective projects. The colloquium focuses on elites in a political, economic, social or cultural context, their role inthe administration of justice and the legal system as well as specific forms of deviance and delinquency of such groups.
