Clothing, fashion and resistance
The Association belge de science politique (ABSP) and the Associations francophones de science politique (CoSPoF) congress 2021
Des soutiens-gorges jetés par les féministes américaines dans les « poubelles de la liberté » à la nudité des Femen, du polo Fred Perry des suprémacistes américains aux tee-shirts no logo des altermondialistes, du béret du Che au keffieh d’Arafat, le vêtement, et parfois son absence, nourrit le spectre des résistances, alimente la scénographie des contestations, leur confère une visibilité quitte à jouer, comme les Black Blocs, sur l’anonymat protecteur. Ce projet comprendra trois axes : le rôle du vêtement dans la construction des antagonismes, sa place dans les processus de mobilisation et son étude en tant que vecteur de circulation interculturelle des modalités de la résistance.

LGBTI and Queer Art, Culture and Activism
In France, a few years after the law authorizing same-sex marriage, LGBTQ associations are now facing new struggles, fighting for access to assisted procreation or the creation of a communal archive center. Drawing on these dynamics, this conference aims at interrogating the bonds between LGBTQ forms of arts, cultures and activisms. We look forward to opening a space for academics and grassroots activists, whether they be engaged in institutional collectives or not, to exchange, reflect and dialogue. LGBTQ-related topics appear to be often overlooked in French research networks. We aim to make it more visible and richer, and make it dialogue with local, national and international networks of academics and activists. The « LGBTI and Queer Art, Culture and Activism » online conference is jointly organised by the Université de Lorraine and its research centres (2L2S and CREM), with the support of the French ministry of culture (DRAC Grand-Est), and the LGBTIQ centre Couleurs Gaies.

Urgent issue of The Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge
This special issue, Tilting, seeks to take up themes that have animated the Blackwood’s program and mandate throughout the last several years: questions of connectivity, the challenges of public and private space, community and/in isolation; imperatives to re-structure modes and methodologies of care, including revaluing care work, confronting collective care responsibilities within colonial and capitalist structures, and engaging with the infrastructures, aesthetics, contestations, and radical possibilities of mutual aid; responses to the precarization of art, labour, and life; interest in what modes of knowledge production, circulation, and re-distribution are vital to us now, and how these networks might take new form. These urgencies continue to drive Blackwood programming (and this forthcoming publication), supporting and activating artists, curators, and writers who incite us to be responsive, critical, and answerable.

Jazz, globalisation and communities
Jazz, globalisation and communities
Now a quasi-universal musical form, present in all five continents, jazz developed as a result of a complex process of cultural exchange, making it a true product of cultural globalisation. Typical of the success of the « glocal », as defined by Robertson in 1994, between the « resilience of the local and global consciousness », jazz has generated new communities of amateur and professional musicians around a strong local musical tradition, thanks first to the presence of foreign musicians, and second to the global nature of jazz itself. The aim of this one-day conference will be to explore the local and global dimensions of these jazz communities from the point of the musicians, the audiences and media, in order to understand how jazz, the quintessentially global musical genre, creates not just local and global communities, but also the links between these very communities.

En fait, il existe un récit historique officiel réalisé par des clubs sportifs et des clubs de supporters officiels, maiségalement un récit « non officiel », produit spontanément par des groupes de supporters. Tous les deux s'inspirent de l'histoire du sport pour (ré)affirmer le rôle historique des équipes dans une perspective historique.

Animal rights and the vegan movement in Germany
En février 2017, le ministère allemand de l'Environnement décidait de supprimer la viande des repas servis à ses convives. On estime que l'Allemagne compte cette même année environ 8 millions de végétariens et 1,3 millions de végans (qui refusent l'utilisation de tout produit animal). Il apparaît donc intéressant de s'interroger sur la question animale en Allemagne quatorze ans après le colloque de Marc Cluet consacré à « L'amour des animaux dans le monde germanique », et ce d'autant plus que ces questions agitent de plus en plus également la société française. Nous avons choisi une approche interdisciplinaire pour aborder ces questions – littérature, philosophie, histoire, sociologie, économie, etc. – car la question animale est par essence transversale.

Doct'Isor doctoral seminar
Depuis 2014, le séminaire Doct’Isor se réunit pour encourager les échanges entre jeunes chercheurs travaillant sur des sources audiovisuelles. La double-thématique « Représentations / Luttes » retenue cette année permettra de croiser plusieurs médias (cinéma, photographie, presse) ainsi que différents types de productions artistiques (œuvres d’art, photomontage, gravures) et de comprendre les « luttes » comme un phénomène à plusieurs dimensions : de l’intime au collectif, du local au transnational, de la lutte en cours à celle(s) que l’on se remémore.

The French model of cultural politics in question
What place for ethno-cultural diversity in the arts and medias?
Du 18 au 22 septembre 2017 aura lieu la deuxième édition de l'université d'été des sciences sociales de l'université Sorbonne Paris Cité. Elle interrogera la place faite à la diversité ethno-culturelle dans les arts et les médias en France. La reconnaissance symbolique par les pouvoirs publics et les institutions culturelles de formes et de pratiques naguère qualifiées de sous-, infra- ou non-culturelles (rock, bande dessinée, mode, street art, etc.) quoique toujours contestée, est en bonne voie. Ce qui l’est moins, en revanche, est la reconnaissance de la diversité ethno-culturelle de la population française et la promotion de ses minorités par le biais de la culture.

Éducateur, entraineur, animateur, formateur dispensent leurs savoirs auprès d’un public diversifié. Comment sont-ils formés, hommes et femmes ? Quelles compétences les caractérisent ? Dans quel projet (social, culturel, politique, etc.) s’inscrivent-ils ? Dans quelles conditions exercent-ils ? Comment sont-ils organisés ? Quelle conception de l’éthique du sport contribuent-ils à diffuser ?

The global upheaval caused by the protest movements around ‘68 revolutionised social structures, overturned cultural conventions, challenged political ideologies, and catalysed civil rights activism by women, gay people and ethnic minorities. Childhood historians stress the importance of this period in altering the authority structures that shaped children’s lives. This special issue proposes to analyse ‘68 as a watershed moment in children’s culture and its related disciplines, following Marwick’s (1998) now canonical definition of ‘68 as the crystallisation of the cultural revolution of the ‘long sixties’ (c.1958-c.1974).

“Medicalized” Childbirth as a Public Problem

Obstetrical knowledge, technologies and practices have dramatically transformed women’s reproductive experiences worldwide. Medicalization of childbirth was accelerated in the XXth century by the displacement of childbirth from home to the hospital, and by the generalization of surgical techniques and pharmaceutical products. Medical interventionism took multiple, situated forms. Relying on cross-cultural investigations and field data from diverse national contexts (France, USA, Italy, Brazil, Senegal, Turkey, Switzerland, Canada…), this international workshop investigates how “technological” birth came into being, and how it is produced, problematized, framed, and negotiated in the XXIst century.

Bien que la volonté de mettre fin à l’invisibilisation des femmes et des féministes dans la discipline historique semble être une réalité tangible depuis quelques décennies, ces dernières y demeurent, toutefois, sous-représentées. Malgré l’effort de nombreuses historiennes, anthropologues, politologues et sociologues désirant mettre fin à cette problématique, un constat demeure : l’occultation des femmes des récits historiques. La prise en compte de celles-ci dans l’histoire et l’étude du féminisme, voire des féminismes, permettent de questionner autrement le passé, le présent et le futur sur une multitude d’aspects. Ainsi, HistoireEngagee.ca vous invite à proposer des articles de fond, de courts textes, des prises de position, des recensions ou des entrevues concernant l’histoire des femmes afin de rendre les femmes et les féministes sujets et actrices de l’histoire.

The (re)appropriation of knowledge. Actors, territories, processes and issues
Malgré des situations asymétriques et de domination parfois très fortes, sur de vastes échelles, le processus de mondialisation ne conduit pas forcément à une uniformisation des savoirs et des savoir-faire : comme l’analyse A. Appadurai, c’est précisément cette tension entre homogénéité et hétérogénéité qui définit la complexité des situations globalisées. Nous nous proposons de réfléchir de manière critique, à partir de situations précises, aux processus d’appropriation ou de réappropriation de savoirs et de savoir-faire, en centrant les analyses sur le point de vue des acteurs, leur pouvoir d’initiative et les stratégies qu’ils déploient dans la production et l’usage des savoirs, leurs enjeux, ainsi qu’aux multiples processus de transformations en œuvre.

Rock and Violence in Europe (1950's-1980's)
This event is the first of two conferences, the second of which will take place in 2019 under the sponsorship of the History department at California State University, Long Beach. The first component, at Rouen, concentrates on Europe, while the second part, on the same theme, will focus on the situation in the Americas. The purpose of these two events is to gain an understanding of the place of rock in contemporary culture and to define its significance and impact in our societies. From this starting point, the conferences will also endeavor to consider the part of legend that encompasses the myth of rock music. The association between rock and violence, however fantastical and artificially constructed, is a given which has penetrated the music's history during the second part of the twentieth century; in some ways, the recent dramatic events at the Bataclan have highlighted this in an extremely tragic manner.

Protest is an intrinsic part of human culture, which enables subjects to express their dissatisfaction with existing social structures and hegemonic hierarchies of power. Protests have occurred across time periods and contexts, and have taken numerous different forms, ranging from personal expressions of discontent to united movements for revolutionary change. Protests can be individual or collective, personal or political, spontaneous or carefully planned, but they are generally orientated towards destabilising the status quo and establishing new modes of existence. Over the ages, political, social and cultural protests have successfully toppled authoritarian regimes, exposed and confronted dominant imbalances of power, and ameliorated conditions for disenfranchised members of society.

Human procreation and family planning and the challenge of the evolution in values in the 20th century
Aidé par les progrès technologiques et médicaux accomplis au cours du XXe siècle dans le domaine de la contraception, de l’avortement, de la stérilisation et de l’aide médicale à la procréation, l’homme (et, de plus en plus, la femme) des sociétés occidentales s’est progressivement approprié la maîtrise de sa fécondité. Cependant, cette appropriation ne s’est pas déroulée sans heurts. Ainsi, la question de savoir par qui, quand, en quel nombre, dans quelles conditions, dans quel but mettre des enfants au monde, et même si on devrait le faire, a fait l’objet de réflexions individuelles et de conflits sociaux et a pu recevoir, au cours des décennies, des réponses fort différentes.
