  Thinking - Making. Perspectives on the growing prominence of making in architecture

  This conference explores the growing prominence of making in architecture, as manifested by architects who engage more directly in building practices, dealing more closely with materials and techniques. The colloquium proposes to investigate a diverse set of cases where making is re-evaluated and celebrated. It calls for papers along three lines of inquiry: historical and theoretical perspectives on the evolution of the relationship between thinking and making, and its consequences in architecture, case studies that assess the motivations and values of actors involved in making in the field of architecture, investigations into the means and tools that aim at a closer relationship between designers, materials and built forms.

  Mobilities, imaginary and territories in America, from the independences until the 1930ies

  Colloque centré l'impact des mobilités sur l'ensemble de l'Amérique, depuis la période des indépendances. Une attention plus particulière sera portée aux propositions de communications traitant des nouvelles configurations spatiales, des territoires remodelés par la nouveaux arrivants, tels l'évolution des tracés frontaliers, la création des fronts pionniers « internes », les nouveaux découpages régionaux.... Cette manifestation s'inscrit dans les activités du pôle sud-ouest de l'Institut des Amériques (IdA) et dans la continuité du projet pluriannuel TEMA (Transports, échanges et mobilités en Amérique) animé par le Professeur Isabelle Tauzin à l'Université de Bordeaux 3 dont le premier colloque « Transports, facteur de modernité en Amérique ? (1810-1914) » se tiendra à Bordeaux les 14-16 janvier 2010.
