  Digital Humanities in Portugal: building bridges and breaking barriers in the digital age

  Discussion about the role of the Humanities in academia and society has a long history. The confluence of this debate with the changes brought about by digital technology is not new either: one cannot speak of "new technologies" for the Humanities when many researchers turned to digital methods at least four decades ago, in disciplines as diverse as Linguistics, History or Literary Studies. The Conference “Digital Humanities in Portugal” aims precisely to stimulate these intersections, opening up a forum for discussion and sharing of research results or ongoing projects in this field of knowledge.

  By the book. The book and the study of its digital transformation

  This two-day conference brings together scholars from the field of publishing studies to examine key issues around the digital transformation of the book, as well as to discuss the developing field of publishing studies. Analysed will be a key set of questions. How is the landscape of the book in Europe changing due to digital transformation? How will terrestrial bookshops survive the growth of ebooks? Are there international forces for change which will affect all markets, and what domestic factors will prevail? What is the connection between the spread of English as the global lingua franca and the growth of digital publishing?

  Alimentation et sciences humaines et sociales : ressources documentaires et pratiques des chercheurs

  L’alimentation en tant que domaine des sciences humaines et sociales ne s’est constituée que tout  récemment en un champ légitime de recherche et depuis peu, d’enseignement. La constitution de lieux de ressources documentaires spécialisés dans l’alimentation (bibliothèques ou  centres de documentation), que ce soit en ethnologie / anthropologie, en histoire, en géographie, en économie ou en sociologie, a suivi cette dynamique. Quel est le rôle des centres de ressources face à l’institutionnalisation de ce champ de recherche et des enseignements conjoints ? Un des objectifs de ce séminaire est d’abord de réunir des chercheurs, enseignants et étudiants de diverses institutions et disciplines autour de leurs pratiques documentaires. Entre recours aux divers fonds et constitution d’un fonds propre, quelles sont les pratiques des chercheurs et étudiants en sciences sociales et humaines spécialisés dans l’alimentation ? Un autre objectif est également de permettre aux professionnels des centres de documentation et bibliothèques d’évoquer leurs missions, de présenter les fonds et leur constitution.
