  Cartography 4.0: navigating the maps of the 21st century

  La production des cartes a connu, avec la numérisation de la société, une révolution copernicienne dont nous observons quotidiennement les effets. La possibilité d’intégrer dans les cartes de grandes quantités de données pour offrir une représentation visuelle dédiée à un lieu et/ou à un usage précis, à un instant donné, avec la contribution en temps réel de multiples acteurs, libère un fort potentiel d’innovation au plus grand bénéfice des utilisateurs. C’est l’émergence d’une cartographie que l’on pourrait appeler 4.0, à la fois dynamique et multi-échelle. Elle pose un défi avant tout scientifique et technologique, mais aussi institutionnel, entrepreneurial, légal, éthique et sociétal. Les applications innovantes de la cartographie 3D/4D se diffusent en effet très rapidement : le monde industriel, civil et militaire, comme les pouvoirs publics, entrent aujourd’hui de plain-pied dans les techniques et les services cartographiques 4.0.

  Evaluation of a region’s renewable natural capital

  EPFL is offering a high-profile post-doc position

  The purpose of the post-doc research is to test and possibly validate the feasibility and relevance of ecosystem capital accounts (SCEEA-CEC) or, said differently, the contribution of natural capital to productive systems, in a regional context (the Rhone river basin). The approach should cover the following aspects: availability, collection and processing of geographic and monitoring data and statistics, relevance of the assessments in natural and social sciences, relevance of the information tools ability to support the regulatory and economic instruments of environmental governance of institutional and territorial spaces.
