Fictions et économie au siècle des Lumières
Si la littérature, sous la forme du roman, du théâtre ou de la fable, peut instruire l'économie, elle vient aussi, sous celle de la fiction, et à l'intérieur même des textes économiques les plus classiques, donner à penser ce que la rationalité discursive peine, voire échoue à appréhender. Telle est l'idée au point de départ de ce séminaire ouvert à tous, qui accueillera, à chaque séance, deux chercheurs invités à présenter et à discuter l'un ou l'autre de ces deux aspects de l'articulation entre littérature et économie.

New historiographical approaches
Cette journée d'étude portera sur l’histoire transnationale des relations et échanges franco-britanniques au XVIIIe siècle. Nous aborderons les thèmes des échanges culturels, intellectuels, politiques et économiques entre la France et la Grande-Bretagne, dans le but de dresser un bilan des nouvelles approches historiographiques, tout en tentant de contribuer à l’élargissement de ce champ florissant de recherches. L’atelier sera transnational en pratique aussi : il réunira en effet des spécialistes d’Amérique du Nord et de la Grande Bretagne, ainsi que des historiens français.

Scotland, Europe and Empire in the Age of Adam Smith and Beyond
Hosted by the Centre Roland Mousnier, the ECSSS (Eighteenth-Century Scottish Studies Society) and the International Adam Smith Society will hold a conference at the Sorbonne in Paris, from the 3rd to the 6th of July 2013. The theme of the conference will be : Scotland, Europe and Empire in the Age of Adam Smith and Beyond. The conference will tackle the question of the role of Scotland and Adam Smith’s thought in the constitution of the British Empire (and the other empires) during the Eighteenth Century, from America to Asia.

L'IPAG de Valenciennes, l'Université de Valenciennes et du Hainaut-Cambrésis et le réseau européen OLA (Observatory on Local Autonomy) organisent un colloque consacré à l'administration locale au Royaume-Uni et en Irlande. Il sera l'occasion d'examiner les systèmes administratifs locaux à travers le concept de « self government » des deux États, mais aussi de leurs entités, telles que les régions dévolues au Royaume-Uni, dans une perspective comparative. -

La question du développement du capitalisme et de la construction des marchés (marchés des produits, marchés de l'emploi) fait l'objet d'un actif renouvellement, grâce aux dialogues noués entre l'histoire et les autres sciences sociales (sociologie, droit, notamment). Forts de ces apports, nous pouvons comprendre autrement les transformations qui ont affecté les économies d'Ancien Régime et engagé de nouvelles formes de consommation, de commercialisation et d'industrialisation.Attachée à examiner les diverses formes de régulation des marchés, de transformation de la notion même de travail, soucieuse de comprendre l'inscription sociale de toutes les activités d'échange, cette histoire est autant sociale, culturelle et politique qu'économique. Comme son objet, le capitalisme, elle est sans frontières.
